Thanks it is @ the 5:05 thru 5:10 minute mark on the video. You first begin to drop the impeller shaft and the next shot it's in. I did get it in by hammering on the front of the shaft. I was a bit worried but it worked I was not sure if the impeller gear should of been set in place first . Thanks Doug

when you drive in bearings, ALWAYS drive them in by the outer ring, if you do it by the inner ring it can destroy the bearing

Thanks for these video's - couple issues. When you installed the second bearing, shouldn't you have used one that was the OD and not pound it in with the inner race or the ID? Also, shouldn't there be some gear oil in the assembly, or at least some grease on the worm drive?

I just followed this video to repair my gearbox. Thank you! You're so helpful to put this video out, I found out about your channel through the FB Honda Snowblower Enthusiast page.

Just curious but did you install the bearings without any grease for the reason that the oil in the case is what lubricates them?

Thanks Don I found them after - when I went looking down the right side ot the page. Good stuff - Wish I had watched it before doign my rebuild. :) I did note that on my SnowKing MTD blower, the shaft has a coller in the center with a key way. This was absolutly solid and I didn't have anything that woulds get it hot enough. In the end had to buy a new one for the new shaft and the darn Woodruf key. All went back together OK and now everythign is coated in greese.

Great video Donny - Good to show just what in involved. Pity MTD don't not make their Blowers this way :) You should show the troops just what is involved when an MTD needs this work. :) It don't have to be a broken geat box either just changing the shaft is a job and a half and you do need to replace all the bushings and bearings. Enjoy watching all your movies. You made me start to fix all my own stuff :)

@larryalbert1 the owner neglected crucial maintenance and the augers were fused on the shaft so when he hit something the shear pins didn't break

Hi Don, I'm attempting to do this to my HS624 this evening because my auger shaft is bent. How do I start disassembling the gear box? I started by popping the cap off, now how do I get the oil seal out to get to the snap ring? Great video series, I just wish you showed how to disassemble an intact case.

Love the videos, thanks for taking the time to record them in such great detail! Any tips for getting the impeller gear into place? The video shows you inserting it, then its in..... I've tried everything to get it to go in.......Any thoughts are appreciated.

Great videos ! Cracked the auger shaft on my Honda 928. have the gear box open, but how do I get the old auger shaft out. Looked easy with the cracked housing you had as you were able to use a gear puller. Suggestions ? Thanks

When i stripped the gears on my Ariens last winter i was told my only option was to replace the gearbox and shaft assembly with their cast iron gearbox because ariens doesn't sell replacement gears anymore. Have you heard the same thing? Not sure why they wouldn't sell just the gears.

The snap ring pliers that you used at the beginning video have blue handles. Are they Channel Lock brand? They looked heavy duty.

it is better for the seals if you put a little bit of grease in the side where the spring is so it won't come of when you tap it with the hammer

I don’t think the Honda parts are that expensive! My MTD parts for doing just a new auger shaft with all the bushes and seals came to over $300.00. The shear pins did brake when a piece of wood jammed the augers but I could not push the bolts out with a punch. Had to drill them out and even though I was careful elongated the hole causing excesive slop so had to replace the main shaft next summer. The hardest part to remove was the sleeve on the center. In the end had to get a new one.
