Part 2
In today's video I'll be showing you how to fix an Auger Gear on a Craftsman 9/24 snow blower!
My friend said he would try to use it, but it just wouldn't throw snow, he said the 2nd stage would spin, but the 1st stage (Impellers) wouldn't.
In PART 1, I showed you how to remove the 1st and 2nd stage auger assembly from the auger housing, and how to disassemble the gearbox to access the worm gear inside of it!
Once we had everything disassembled, I showed you how I go about ordering parts. Specifically, how to find the right parts, using your model number!
You can watch PART 1 here: • How to Fix a Snowblowe...
In today's video, I show you how to properly reassemble the gearbox with our new gear.
I show you step by step how to reassemble everything, then we take this machine outside and test it in the snow!

Great job! FYI, the reason there is an inside and outside hole for the wheel retaining pin is for those that do a lot of turning, the machine will operate as if it had an "open differential" and they won’t be fighting a “locked” drive axial as they try to make turns

Thanks for the most informative video about this model, I have the exact same one and I was in fear it was the worm gear, spent about 45 minutes tearing it down step by step to your video and ordered my worm gear and grease! Big appreciation keep up the amazing work sir.

Excellent job. Your attention to the details of the job was very helpful. It really helps that you pointed out all of the details of the reassembly noting particularly the proper alignment of the parts to the case so that those of us following you (hopefully) will remember to look for that orientation before attempting the reassembly.

This video saved me a lot of headaches and time. The flat sections on the bushings is easy to miss and the housing of the wormgear will not go back together unless the bushings are setting flush. Thanks again this was super helpful.

Thank you for this awesome video on how to replace a broken gear box gear! My son-in-law's craftsman snow blower is only 1 year old and already have to deal with this kind of repair. But we have a gravel driveway so it's to be expected. So, I guess I have some work to do. I'm a retired auto mechanic, but by watching your video I'll GET-ER-DONE! Thanks again for part 1 and part 2 step by step repair! WELL, DONE! 😎👍🙏

Excellent 2 Part Video especially pointing out the significance of the flats in the housing in relationship to the bushing flats. Without that information someone might break a housing if they did not realize they had interference. Presently Stens offers FREE shipping on orders over $150 Cdn but you need to set up a prepaid (credit card) account with them.

Good demo for the rebuild. With the impeller out…. I’d have done the impeller mod at the same time since it would have been easy. I did the impeller mod and now my blower never clogs with slush and it made a noticeable improvement in blowing the fluffy stuff. 😊

Not going to lie I wish I had found your channel last year! I bought the exact machine and the guy before me has bolts in for the pins. Paid 150$ for it because the guy thought it was leaking gas out of the block but it turns out it was just a fuel line cracked and I thought I had won a little lottery but I guess I will see what happens when I get it running if the gear is pooched. I am hoping not! Great videos!

I have the same exact model Craftsman 9HP, 26", so this was a fantastic and invaluable video on rebuilding the gear box. I've learned so much and hopefully repaired my machine on my own. I was unable to join the 2 sides of the snowblower alone, until the augur lever was depressed, which I may not have done, if you hadn't explained that. There is one thing. After everything was back together and tested, I noticed the augur blades kept turning, even when the augur handle was not depressed? Is there something I missed? Thanks again, I'm definitely a subscriber!

Likely the cable for auger set with too much tension so the brake isn't engaging, or it's the belt that's too tight. Also check to make sure the idler return spring is still connected. If not, it won't pull back the idler pulley enough and the belt will stay slightly engaged.

Nice job. I would add that you should grease or oil the auger shafts before installing the aluminum gear box shells. This helps protect the seals as you slide the gear box shells onto the auger axle.

Yes like the old pozi traction on muscle cars, I find it better when it's locked, and the snow/ice makes it easy enough to turn the snowblower. These are quite small units anyway, and I find them easy to maneuver.

WOW, THANK YOU!!! What detail you provide. I just picked up a MTD 8x26" blower with a busted auger. Not ever done one before I'm waiting for the gear box. This is a 1994 blower, very well cared for. There is NO gasket between the two halves. Seems odd, but do you know if back then they were built that way? I was given a CUB CADET 28" blower, big hole in the block. For my limited knowledge all else appears good. I was looking to get a predator replacement engine, trying to keep cost down as much as possible. I want to give one away to help someone out. A friend has a TORO, tracked 3 stage. It has set outside for at least 3 years. The thing started right up, runs a little rough but runs. It probably doesn't have 4 hours on it. The linkages are messed up, due to setting out no doubt. It doesn't seem to go through the snow worth a crap, it blows and in forward gears goes fine but a wheeled unit seems to have a lot more balls than this does. How do the gearing work? Are they like a pressure on the pulley? Never owned a blower so have zero experience in this area. Again, I thank you for your knowledge, and for taking the time to produce such high end instruction!! Dave in Vermont, 100% off grid for 43 years and counting

Do you know if slightly bent auger shaft can be straightened with a hydraulic press? It is a 1985 sears 5/23 replacement parts are not easy to find. I am assuming the brass gear in the video is pretty standard and still available online, as well as auger bearing that is at the back of the housing.

Hey great videos! While my machine was a different model it still helped me enough to get everything done in the correct manner and now it's working great. Just need snow to test it here in North East Pennsylvania. I do have one question I am using the OEM sheer pins which came with the machine when I purchased it new about 9 years ago. I broke my 1st one last season and my 2nd earlier this season then the next day the worm gear completely failed. Is this common or do you think the pins even though they are the correct ones per the manufacturer were to hard?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 5 жыл бұрын
Good question, sometimes the shear pins can shear half way and still transfer some force into the gears in the gear box. Glad to hear things are back up and running! And yeah we don't have too much snow in southern Ontario either. Thanks for watching Green Man!

Great videos, I have learned a lot. Can you tell me if the Ariens Deluxe snow blowers also use grease in their gear case? I saw a video where the guy was actually checking the level of the Grease or oil through a hole on top, that later he closed it by screwing a bolt, in this video it looked like oil to me. just curious.

I can assure you it is grease, on this one the white is lithium grease and the green stuff is called "00" or double zero grease. Specifically made for low temp cold applications.

I was hoping you would discuss how you got the shaft back through the bearing. Apparently yours went quite easily, mine isn't.

Hello, thanks for the video. My machine has that damaged part. I don't know what brand it is, it says Stanley 30” but I'm looking for that part by that brand and I can't find it. Could you help me?

My John deer riding mower with 44 inch blower has an issue. It started making a loud grinding noise. I thought it was the gear box but when I took it apart the gears were ok. Must have been a rock between the impeller and body. Anyway I did find a few small metal bits in the gear case but I cant figure out what its from. Looks like it used to be shaped like a hollow tube. Could this be a pin spring? I have no idea where it would go. Anyone know

Great job on video! I have a Deere TRS32. Neither gear is available from Deere. Anyone have any suggestions how to obtain replacement gears? OEM #'s are M45701 and M45702. Thanks.

Is it possible to replace the shaft. Mine snapped right at a sheer pin hole. I can only find the whole assembly with gear box.🇨🇦🇨🇦

Yes, google your model number and search for the parts diagram. Then look at the parts diagram and the shaft itself should be numbered. You can then search for that part number

Any tips on how to break a seized/rusted auger free from the auger axle? I was able to get a pry bar in and break one side free, but the other side won't give. I bought a lower HP Craftsman for parts for my 9hp/26in snowblower that I completely destroyed the auger blades on.

same happened on my 9/26 axle is froze to one side auger. sheer pin ( nut and bolt) were rusted and froze. had to drill it out but still cant get axle to spin as it is froze to blade impeller. gear box and rest of machine is functioning fine. Hate to tear it down if I dont have to.
