Perfect song from a Masterpiece of an album. I still listen to this all these years later. Sublime. The addition of the strings. Masterful.

You are listening to the original Doobie Brothers here. It is the Michael Mcdonald era that did not sound like the Doobies, so it's the other way around. I am glad Tom Johnston finally came back to the doobies to get the original band back together. Tom is singing here, as he also sings lead on "Listen to the Music" another great song Tom wrote.

Probably their best album for me, it has the original and best sound of one of the best American bands ever! All the early albums are superb, any one of them worth reviewing, loads of great songs to choose from.

The song off of the best album of all time to me is a gem….has it all. The vocals,harmonies, strings,baseline, and the prevailing wail of a guitar make this a winner. Having surprisingly two in sync drummers also so tight they sound as one….. RIP,Keith Knudsen and Michael Hossack.

You really had to see the Doobie Brothers on concert more than once to understand them. They were not a band totally concerned with pressing out top 40 music just to sell records. Obviously you do get into music to become popular and sell tons of presses. The Doobies would preform different every concert. They were exceptionally talented and diverse as individuals and musicians. That is why a done like this would surprise many people who listen to some of their music. Black Water is a other good example of a song, when released, many people had a hard time believing that was them. The Doobies still blow you away with their performances, though some are gone. I remember 1 concert years when they hit the stage like a keg of gunpowder exploding, they played for 45 minutes without a break. That was as incredible of a oerformance as I have witnessed. Then there were concerts where they spent time interacting with the crowd, but they did not skip on great music on those nights either. The R&R HOF, were proven incompetent with allowing them to go so long without induction. That, in itself, is another discussion. The Doobies are a great band to experience, not sure right now if they still have Dave Mason opening for them. Haven't been around them lately. But if those 2 are still playing shows together, I have one thing to tell you. GET A TICKET, !!!!. What a dynamite show you will see. You will not think you wasted you time or money if they are touring together. Mason is by far,the most under rated musician from the 70s. Just look at the man's resume. Long live the Doobies and Dave Mason. Give Dave's live version of Watchtower, which he played with o. Hendrix recording. It's a killer. God Bless you all. And enjoy the music. By the way, I love your reactions and comments. God Bless you to.

This is classic Doobies! I was floored by this album when it first came out! Tommy’s songwriting and guitar/vocals were incredible. The amount of talent in this band was phenomenal!!! The Doobies with Michael McDonald were a different band. I prefer the original but the “other” Doobies were awesome in their own right. You should check out Natural thing from the same album.

This is the Doobies at their best. A great under the radar song by them. All really good songs on this album called The Captain And Me. In 1976, a buddy and I were allowed to drive 175 miles to the beach for the weekend. We were 14. Neither had a driver's license. We had a nice old Buick with a great stereo and two of his sisters eight track tapes were in the Buick. This one and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Second Helping". The tapes and the trip made a lasting mark on me. Good reaction. This has some of that "Black Water" swampiness.

"Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" is my absolutely favourite Doobie Brothers song from my favourite album of theirs, "The Captain and Me." This album came out in 1973, almost 50 years ago! A double platinum album when that really meant something! This is a desert island album for me, and you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands! Ha, ha! This was singer and lead guitarist Tom Johnston's ode to BB King and his "The Thrill is Gone." Harri, you really should have a drink on me for choosing this song because I think it has only ever been reacted to one other time on KZbin, and from now hearing it you know this is a masterpiece of the blues guitar. Ted Templeman, their producer, brought in a string section for this song and as you can tell, this was a master stroke on Templeman's part. The Doobie's second through fifth albums are their very finest and cover the entire gamut of what made up rock and roll at that time. Everything from the blues, to country to hard rock to soul and funk. One of my favourite bands of all time without question. And they were only inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year or two ago--and they were playing this level of the blues and rock and country 50 years ago! It is an utter embarrassment for the RRHoF that they ignored these guys for decades. They are still touring today and from time to time they still play "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman"! 🎸🎸🎸😎💘👌

@ToddSauve2 жыл бұрын
@@pncombies I don't really see anything at the 11 second mark. Did you already buy Harri a drink? Ha, ha! Truly, this is my favourite Doobies song. I was 14 when this came out and in my first year of high school. I can't remember who owned it but there were basically nothing but 8 tracks back then, unless you had a turn table. So I must have heard it in someone's car or perhaps at a friend's house. This entrenched my love of the blues which, other than a South Korean Gospel singer named Sohyang, is my favourite music to this day. If you haven't heard Sohyang sing then do not pass Go and do not collect $200 but go directly here and listen to this unbelievable talent! He joined them in '75 after years of working with Steely Dan. I saw them in February of '75 in Austin, TX - my FIRST concert as asophomore in high school. Tom Johnston didn't perform with them when my pals and I saw them. Patrick Simmons and McDonald covered for him. Johnston had been "benched" by his management team due to exhaustion and partying too hard. McDonald didn't join the Doobies to change them or become the man, he was simply in the right spot at the right time and he had something to offer a band whose leader and front man wasn't physically able to perform! It all worked out as Johnston has been back with them for almost 40 years now and McDonald long ago made a name for himself. I love all eras of the Doobies and appreciate McDonald's contributions and great songs during his time with them. I chose this song for Harri to react to because I knew true Doobie Brother fans from back in the day would appreciate it.

@@pncombies Jeff "Skunk" Baxter brought McDonald into the Doobie Brothers when Tom Johnston had to leave because of a really bad ulcer. Was it from partying? I don't know but he was awfully thin by the time he left. Baxter brought McDonald in because they were both working with Steely Dan at that time and Jeff had been working with the Doobies almost from the beginning with his great guitar work. Just think! Those three great guitarists in one band; Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and Jeff Baxter! Jeff is a rocket scientist consultant now with the US DoD. One smart guy, and as he says his dad taught him that serving his country was a great honour, and no doubt a lucrative one! Jeff wrote a research paper on how to defend and cover an entire aircraft carrier group with only the missiles that they had on hand at the time. He showed it to a friend in the DoD, who showed it to a senator on one of the defence department's committees in congress. He was so impressed he had the federal government offer Jeff a job with the defence department. And Jeff took it! 🎸💘
