Hello, first of all I would like to sincerely take a moment to thank you for your incredible tutorials. I have watched and saved them all on my computer, taking a myriad of notes to help my learning curve in flight simulators (I use P3D now). I have shared your videos with a friend of mine who also thanks you immensely and we both hope you will continue to provide us more tutorials! Now I understood every single of your tutorial videos; except one element in this one. I found and printed all charts in all your videos for practice purposes, hence i printed the SID for London Huton. I understood it all until the point when you changed the ADF from 433.5 (HEN) to 433.6 (???). Why have you changed that? There is no indication whatsoever on the SID chart of a 433.6 NDB! My head has been spinning for the past 15min so I pray you can respond to me rapidly! Secondly, you say after 7nm to turn the VOR indicator to 055; but on the SID chart the second point is at 005..is it me who did not understand or is there a mistake in the video? Cheers!

+Toni T Hey Toni, thanks for your kind comment, I'm really glad my videos are helping you understand flight simulation! :D So the reason I changed the ADF frequency was basically to "turn it off". I only needed the ADF for the first part of the SID, then once I turned onto the 345 radial from BNN, I didn't need the ADF anymore. As for the change on the VOR indicator, I did mean to say 005 degrees but accidently said 055 :/ so that was simply a mistake on my part.

Hi, I know why you went off course (in the flight analysis in the end you showed the flight path). So at somewhere around 7:45 first of all you said 055, I think you meant 005 ;) You did say 005 later on though. But the real mistake starts to happen here: at 9:47 when the radial is captured you do correctly when you reset the OBS thingy but you should've also turned to the direction of that new radial 345. I did so and... bam, the plane flew exactly over the waypoint OLNEY. Just to inform I'm using an another Cessna that has a different sort of VOR capturing thing (not sure if it's called CDI). Anyways it also shows the direction a bit better so that's why I had the idea of doing that turn earlier. You can also understand your mistake by looking the chart you showed in the beginning. The turn starts after the mark that says BNN R005 BTW - I'm new to navigating like this so this video was very helpful, I thank you for that. Plus it was nice that I also realized something by myself. The best learning experience :)

Thanks for the videos. I'm learning lots about navigation and flight planning from you (flight sim based of course). I'm trying to learn departure procedures to really fly by the book, but am struggling. Your video was so clear, and the map you had initially was simple. How do I search for maps for the airport I'm departing? Then only thing I can find is these giant convoluted text documents.

Hi Doofer. Thanks for taking so much time in making these videos, as I am learning a lot from you. Did you intentionally not use the ATC? If you had used the ATC, they would have vectored you to another direction right? Doesn't this take away from realism? :( :(

Yes I deliberately did not use ATC to demonstrate the departure procedure. Sometimes ATC would vector you manually, sometimes they ask you to follow the full procedure. It just depends on how busy the airspace around the airport is. If ATC can give you a "shortcut" by manually vectoring you then they will but as I said, it depends how busy the airspace is. Departure Procedures are designed to keep departing planes at a safe distance from arriving planes.

you forgot to set the flaps for Take off. Overall very good video.

This looks like a simulated Cessna 172. Flaps are retracted for normal hard-surface takeoff. Flaps are used for soft field takeoffs to lift off as soon as possible.
