Crazy what you can do with this old type of Cessna. I'm actually amazed. I'll be starting on the new MSFS soon. I can't wait to practice what I learned in your videos. You got a new sub.

Brilliant, clear video as usual--had great fun replicating it. If anyone else wants to replicate it here is the summary I made! I have noticed the FSX airways around one horse town Inverness have become extremely busy since Doofer started giving tutorials! Doofer Inverness VOR approach and ILS landing 1. Fly 160 South of Inverness for about 10.7NM altitude 4000ft 2. Set Radio 2 (Nav 2) to INS 109,2 ..,-.,… For fun set IVR NDB to 328.0 so you can see where the airport is at all times. We don’t actually use it for this flight. 3. Check heading back to ILS by rotating VOR 2 with a “to” arrow say about 340. Make a right U turn to heading around 340 that you read off VOR2. 4. Turn to that heading and fly to and over-fly INS VOR using usual technique. Set DME onto radio 2 and fly in at 4000ft from around 10,7DME out 5. As soon as you over fly it turn to 244 set VOR 2 to 244 and get on to that away radial-- may have to go a bit left to track the 244 away radial. Make sure VOR 2 now has an away arrow. 6. Descend to 2100 at VS -400ft per minute 7. Tune NAV 1 to ID-X ILS for runway 05 ( 108,5 ..,.-..,-.) to get ready for ILS landing and set it to 055 (054 on external chart). 8. Switch DME distance to NAV1 radio 9. At 8,4NM turn left onto a heading of about 150 to intersect the 055 “to” bearing on VOR 10. Set autopilot to approach and it should turn it in to the 055 bearing and lock on to the glidescope and bring you down to runway 05. NAV 2 now becomes redundant. 11. At 6,4NM the Autopilot will over-ride altitude and descend on the glide scope. 12. Once speed in the white zone 70 knots flaps 1 Increase throttle to stay at 70 knots 13. At about 2,7NM full flaps adjust throttle as needed to maintain 70 knots and try and land at 60 knots. Once the runway is visible disable autopilot latest 200 ft above runway and land visually as usual. The Inverness runway is 31 ft above sea level. Did the same flight in a Baron Beechcraft 58 as well.

Excellent tutorial. If you want to use the NAV function of the autopilot to track a VOR radial, (4:20) I believe you can only use Nav1. You can enter the ILS freq into the Standby freq location to make a quick switch when you're ready for the approach. Also, when displaying Morse codes, use 2 or 3 spaces instead of commas to separate the characters. Again, great job!

Yeah the Autopilot will only work with Nav1, although you can use Nav2 for manual navigation.

Thanks, I appreciate your calm delivery of information and your commentary was helpful in real time. I'm on X Plane right now but will change back to FS 2020 as soon as it is available. I really miss MSFS.

Where did you get the 8.4 miles to make your turn towards the airport (runway)?

Hello Doofer. I got a question fer ya. Is it possible, (and if so, how to do it), obtain weather reports like x-winds and such upon final?
@kinglimpang80678 жыл бұрын
Hello!! Nice video as usual. 1) May I know how to set the weather manually? 2) Also, at 13:56, would the reason why the different distances shown in chart and in sim be that the chart is showing ground horizontal distance but the plane is showing the slant height? (I remember you mention this in video 17. Hope I didn't remember the knowledge wrong.)
@Doofer9118 жыл бұрын
1. Before the flight you can set the weather through "User Defined Weather" 2. All the distances on the chart will be slant height.

+Doofer911 Thanks! I have a new question. If everyone approaches and lands according to the chart, that means flying a circuit like what you did in video 5 is not available in real world? Thanks!
@Doofer9118 жыл бұрын
King Lim Pang Planes can still fly a circuit and an Instrument Approach at the same time however air traffic control will do their best to make sure both planes won't be on Final Approach at the same time. So they may ask the aircraft on the circuit to make their downwind leg longer or I remember hearing an aircraft being asked to "orbit", which meant that they performed a long, slow 360 degree turn while on their downwind leg to give an aircraft on final extra time to land. I remember hearing that on one of the few occasions I flew a real plane however my memory might be wrong.

+Doofer911 Ic. ATC acts a very critical role!
@kinglimpang80678 жыл бұрын
+Doofer911 Btw, what can the ATC know inside its airspace? Does it know your aircraft position? Airspeed? Or other info? Or it actually knows nothing and the pilot needs to tell it? Thanks!!

Is there any way to get the charts from fsx. There are some missions in the learning center which teach this chart approach.
@Doofer9118 жыл бұрын
I believe the charts are installed somewhere in the game directory, you'll have to go searching for them.

How are you managing the throttle whilst on auto pilot? Are you using anything as a reference point such as the glide slope?
@Doofer9117 жыл бұрын
Throttle in this plane is manually controlled, and I would be performing an ILS landing at the end of this approach.

Doofer, when you set the ADF for Inverness I notice you always listen to the morse code transmission. Is that correct procedure in real world aviation? My logic tells me that if you have put in the correct frequency and the ADF needle responds then that should be sufficient confirmation. Thanks in advance. Gaz
@Doofer9117 жыл бұрын
I believe so because it's possible that you may get a signal from a different station. So the Morse Code is a way to check that you're tuned in to the correct frequency.

Hi. Please can you tell me what you use to move your views around the cockpit. Is it Track IR or EZDOCK?? Thanks in advance. Great videos by the way!
@Doofer9119 жыл бұрын
+Dave Foster Very easy, hold down SPACE and move the mouse around! Then use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out
@davefoster94959 жыл бұрын
Well I never knew you could do that! Thanks. There is so much to learn!! I was thinking about investing in the EZDOCK camera system. Have you used it? Is it worth it? Thanks again. Dave.
@Doofer9119 жыл бұрын
+Dave Foster I personally haven't but I've seen a few videos of people who do use it and it does look like a very practical addon. You can setup multiple custom views so you can get a better camera angle to look at certain panels which might be difficult to read from the Pilot's seat and you can switch seamlessly between each view rather than having to right click and select a different view.

@Doofer9119 жыл бұрын
+Fly X I try and do most of my tutorials in the default aircraft because that's what FSX players always have available to them. Not everyone will know about the A2A Cessna so I prefer to keep things in the default one as much as possible.
