Well, it's one giant, relatively slow moving target with attacks which you can learn to evade with a bit of time vs monkey demons that can attack you from the other side of the map, sometimes with sniper precision, for "small" but, depending on the quantity, quick amount of damage.

Since their damage is ampd up in UN mode, are fast and can overwhelm you in swarms, Tier S. They only are less threatening when you can cover more ground.

Hes not at all joking if you havent tried UN. Personally I think the early game Imps are harder than all the other bosses and enemies, its just not nearly as punishing to die to them when they are still dangerous (lvl 5/6 and under)

Because they throw fireballs from across the room like a pro NBA player, but the worst part about them is that they keep moving around just like you, like some enemies are too big not to notice, others need to get close to even remotely do any damage, but not the Imps, and they come in large numbers. While you're dealing with one, another is certainly charging a fireball at you.

I don't really agree with this theory that "Samuel Hayden" is supposed to be initialized to "S. Hayden" and sound like Satan. Its far simpler etymology is, it's a variant spelling of an Old English/Middle German name "Haydn"/"Heiden", meaning "heathen". Bonus fact: it was previously used in the Doom 3 novels, for a character simply named "General Hayden".

Additional note: I once managed to get outside the Cyber Demon's wall that he puts up when he corners you so he can throw lines of fire at you (the texture for the rocks is FLAT when viewed from the sides, meaning he's just throwing up some wallpaper with rock textures on them). He can still throw fire at you when you are on the outside of his little cone, but you WILL have more room to dodge.

Man, I rank pinkies much higher on my personal list -- those goddamn things always seem to get me with their outrageous, seemingly-impossible damage radius. I swear I'm like way, way clear of their entire body half the time and STILL take damage. But I hardly ever use the stun bomb! Perhaps that's my problem. I'd also put the Cyber Mancubus higher solely because it has a real skill for catching me off-guard at super long range in the later maps. I tend to rely (probably too much) on Rich Get Richer, so this often totally throws me off when my armor suddenly gets deleted and I don't even know where the fucker is yet. Dirty bastards. I have yet to complete Ultra-Nightmare. Farthest I ever got was the destroyed Argent Facility -- got one-shotted by a Cacodemon in the first real fight and was super pissed. I'd also put Cacos higher on my list because of their uncanny ability to one-shot me even from a good distance if I don't have full health and some armor. Most of my late-game experience comes from regular Nightmare practice runs where nerves aren't as much of a factor. That said, the Siphon grenade + EP2 *is* totally hilariously broken most of the time and makes you basically unstoppable if you are careful, so I think once I can reach Titan's Realm I'll be set. Hell Guards are absolute bastards, though, but less so if you switch from Gauss to Plasma once two of them show up. Managed to beat them without dying for the first time the other day when I did that! Gauss is really good for quickly evading the melee attacks when facing the first one, but you need the higher rate of fire to detonate those charge-up yellow orb things once two of them are going after you, especially since one always seems to be spinning around shitting fire everywhere. When it comes to SS-tier, I'd rank the very first fight of the game without hesitation. Hands down the hardest part by far for me, mainly because the unupgraded shotgun is so unbelievably bad and there's no good place to set up a defensive position. You just have to keep moving and hope you don't back into a charged-up plasma ball or a sneaky imp. Probably like 90% of my deaths have been right in that godforsaken arena. Thankfully it's the very first one!

Yeah I genuinely don’t understand the hell guard’s placement and hype a lot of people give them. The cyber demon gives me hell but I don’t really like using BFG so maybe that’s why. The hell guards are so easy to beat even without BFG or using very smart weapon combos. I just quick swapped super shotgun and gauss cannon and only used those two and took them out very quickly. Dodging their attacks is also a lot easier with the air control rune which I like to run.

I'm digging this longer, more detailed per-level overview. Makes a bit more sense than previous summarised tier lists. I find 2016's enemy design to be just beautiful. While a few enemies become worhtless and pathetic, the fights felt so well structured that the cannon fodder presense was still valued. Also I mistakenly never bothered with rune challenges after a couple of first ones, and mistakenly again thought I won't use the gauss gun ("a sniping weapon? In DOOM? why would I") and never discovered that siege mode... yes, for real. That being said... no shoutout for UnnamedAI? The killer of the most?!

My prediction for Doom eternal tier list lol: Imps: C tier - they used to be tough but now, they are easy fodder for the chainsaw and can be easily dispatched with new numbers of ways like the blood punch and ice grenades Zombieman blaster: D tier - they are as unthreatening as before Shield soldier: F+ tier. Now they are basically walking barrel bombs Revenant: F tier - they do even less in eternal lol. But battlemode in the other hand... Gargoyle: B tier - they like imps, but more annoying, mobile and damaging Hell knight/death knight: B tier - pretty much the same, other than a few projectile attacks Baron: B tier - also much the same Mancubus/cyber mancubus: S tier - now they appear everywhere and worse, they can corner you into small areas. The worst parts are in the nekrovol argent tower where two cybers gang up on you in a small arena and it gets much worse in the icon of sin fight Pinky: Upgraded to B tier - it's harder to deal with them now there is no stun grenade and you have to rely on the long cooldowns of ice grenades. Caco and pain elemental: D tier - ballista bait Arachnotron: B tier - they are annoying to deal with, running away and weaving your attacks. Good thing is that they lack close range offenses and you can dispatch them as they get close Prowler: A tier - the living manifestation of 'owae wa mou, shindeiru' Whiplash: C tier - might be hard and fast at first but are quickly downed with meathook and ssg Makyr drone: F tier - basically free ammo Marauder: SS tier - motherfucker forces you into a parry riposte game and if you fuck up, you die. You run out of ammo? Good luck finding a zombie to saw before the guy shoots you with 10000 lasers. And OH GOD THAT FUCKING DOG Gladiator: B tier - his attacks are very telegraphed but your nerves are elevated and can mess up your reading. Khan makyr: A tier - quite easy to mess up, when shit is flying left and right but once you get the mood of firing her up with micro rockets, popping a drone for ammo and repeating, its doable. Icon of sin: S tier - you can't just bullet sponge him and you have to run around his minions and attacks like an idiot to reach his hittable weakspots. And it's freaking mancubus country up in here.. Gun zombie: A tier - these guys can spawn behind you and clip you very badly Possessed: don't even bother Doom hunter: B tier - really nothing much to be worried about, other than the weird minigame you have to dance around for. The only thing to worry is other demons forcing you off and letting him recharge Delete with crucible tier: cyberdemon and archvile

The hardest monster is the shield-zombie when you haven't played 2016 in a while, then mix up your the hotkeys for Plasma Gun -> Stun Bomb and Rocket Launcher -> shoot shield while standing directly in front of it. And almost as difficult as platforming are glory kills. Too many times I've had a glory kill end up glitching me out of bounds, where I fall to my death.

Finished it from second playthrough. Level 03: Foundry kicks ass. But if you utilize all the secrets and go for broken rune combos, the rest of the game is easy. I finished it with just w+m1 mt minigun rgr+eu runes and leech grenade.

While I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and am currently replaying it reading all the codex entries and trying to absorb as much of the story bits as I can so I can get my bearings for Eternal, I will concede the game has balance issues and verges on being too easy, repetitive and shallow most of the time, especially during the third leg of the run. Eternal outclasses it in that respect and makes it a challenging experience from the start and only keeps escalating further. Still better than 3 for me.

The hell guard duo can be easier than the single one. The staff wielding one has a big ball that can be used to stun the mace wielder. Save a bfg for when those two first spawn to stun them, then immediately lock on to the mace wielder and turn him into a meat shield. Once he’s down the staff wielder will usually just action movie slowmo backflip in vain before you mercilessly rip out its host.

It is suprising that the true final boss of Doom 2 (said to have higher rank than Cyberdemon, but stuck on tier F), suddenly become tier SS. Meanwhile, ever since his climactic defeat on Doom 3, the Super Cyberdemon (who's been told that only the cube thing can harm him), suddenly become an icing in the hell and goes to tier A, even lower than that newcomer Hell Guard boss. Yes though, earlier Doom games, they LOVE to spam use of Cyberdemons, but here only once (not to mention the plethora of way to cheese him in this game, ie with Siege Mode), so yeah reasonable that why the king of hell degrade 2 ranks from SS to A.

This video is a comprehensive masterpiece, hats off to you guys. I agree with everything except the bosses, but this is obviously for run-threatening potential and I've done UN and pistol only nightmare runs recently so have had plenty of time to practice/analyse fights. All in all about 90% of my deaths were from imps. Sometimes their predictive fireballs are just too galaxy brain and straight up end the run, or they become mini wall turrets and spam fireballs pretty fast [more of a pain to deal with on pistol only as you want to be able to glory kill them, or need to fully charge a headshot to get them off the wall]. Quick note about the Kadingir Sanctum fight at 11:50, you can trigger the first Summoner to spawn by going towards the bridge where it spawns but then stay in the area with the Possessed once it starts to spawn. Less demons will spawn in, and you'll only have to kill a Summoner, Hecc Knight and a few lower level demons that way [again not the biggest lifesaver, but it's a pretty narrow arena]. Nerves aside you [should] rarely take damage from the Cyberdemon, unless you didn't practice it I guess. The charging beam is dangerous enough that anyone should at least get the dodge timing for it down before doing UN, and learning how to deal with the pressure of the rocket barrage + triple slash on the second phase completely trivialises the fight. Only thing saving the poor guy is not being evaporated by the BFG. Just wanted to add some of my thoughts and experiences while watching, can't wait for all the juicy Eternal content!

Total agree with placing Imps as highest threat on early levels. I have done my fair share of UN playing - and I have encountered many helmets written "Killed by: Imp" on every level, even the latest ones. I also contributed to several ones.

Ah, the one Doom game that made me feel worthless. Had to lower my difficulty setting midway and never survived the Spiderdemon. Since release, I realise that I spent way too little time messing around with runes and upgrading stuff (i.e. playing it like Doom/Doom2), lesson learned until next time I guess. It would be interesting to see how a less-n00b-than-myself would manage the game without runes/weapon-upgrades. That could perhaps make the game more challenging...or at least make me feel less crappy about my gaming abilities... ;)

My only gripe with the Imp's rating is that judging from the Snap Map's sandbox, you've got a variety of Imps. Not sure if in the campaign, they use only 1 iteration or all of them, but suffice to say if I had to rank them individually it would be like this: Standard Imp: S Tier. It's degree of annoyance will persist through the entire campaign. They will both blast and slap you hard. Agressive Imp: B Tier. Surely they shall keep you busy as they only care about rushing like some fiends straight out of Quake 1, but their lack of projectiles pretty much make them appear like Hell Knights if they were extremely fragile. Sentinel Imp: B Tier. They won't bother charging at you, but they will invest all their time to elaborately ignite you with balls. Individually they are pretty retarded but when paired with Hell Knights and any other other demons, you would probably want to spend some ammunition in the unwashed masses of Sentinel Imps.

Hell guard tip: When one of them does the glowing ball attack, immediately empty some mobile turret bullets into the ball, then just hold down m1 until the Hell Guard dies. Phases 1 and 2 aren't that tricky once you learn how to cancel the glowing orb attack. Charged Burst+double SSG or chaingun turret melts through their health once you cancel the ball attack. Phase 2 is also fairly simple. Just use the chaingun on the flame hell guard when it does the glowing orb attack to instacancel it, then BFG spam or any type of heavy combo. After that, the electric hell guard is a walk in rhe park

I really think the tier list will be different for everyone because of their playstyle. I know I used Rich Get Richer rune mostly and I like to do less weapon switching. After I finished Ultra-Nightmare twice I would say the most dangerous demons are the Imp, Hell Knight, Cyber Mancubus and Pinkys. The Imps are dangerous the whole way through because a few hits and the armor for RGR rune is out. Hell Knights can be very random in certain fights and the Cyber Mancubus is a deadly sniper. Pinkys are very weird to dodge and some times when you do dodge one, it can turn around and bite you. Also, never glory kill an engineere, I found that out the hard way. XD

I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who can pull off Ultra Nightmare. I love Doom, I've loved it since the first game game out in 1993 (I was four years old and watched my brother play it), but I've never really been any good. I usually play on the lowest difficulty setting possible, with the one exception of Doom Eternal on Hurt Me Plenty for one run through the base campaign.
