If you guys haven't seen Mick Gordon's talks on youtube about the soundtrack, you are REALLY missing out. He's one of the most passionate and fun presenters I've ever listened to, and he has one speech where he demonstrates and explains the entire system he used to make most of the insane synth sounds, plus their whole back and forth about how the soundtrack worked. It wasn't gonna have any guitars at all! Just search youtube, the videos are out there, and they're amazing
@MrVi9rus6 жыл бұрын
prob wasn't going to have guitar because they cant really play guitar...
@nomindseye6 жыл бұрын
No, it was ID software music director's decision that they didn't want to rehash the old Doom soundtrack with metal guitars and all that. But Mick managed to "sneak in the guitars" and stuff happened. Mick Gordon is actually originally a guitarist, who just turned into making video game music. The simple riffs in this OST are a stylistic choice, and a nod towards the popularity of the modern "binary djent" (you know, where the tab is just something like: 01110101001101110). You can hear most of the stuff from the GDC talk that Mick did about the soundtrack, plus a few (long) interviews he's done.

The cover is very good however the bend in the main riff is wrong. Idk how to explain this but your bend is too late in the riff. If you split it up into 3 parts. Where there's the very short breaks in between the main "da da da da da da - da da da da da - da da da da da da" You're hitting the bend at the beginning of the third term of that riff. The bend is actually dragged out longer and begins on the 3rd "da" of the 2nd term, and gets dragged down to the end of the riff. So instead of "da da da da da da - da da da da da - (bend) da da da da da da" its actually. "da da da da da da - (bend)da da da da da - da da da da da da" Otherwise great job. You can observe the difference on Mick Gordon's channel. He has a couple of videos of the creation of the doom OST showing it clearly 😊

Yeah, in most of the beginning songs of this album (which are played in the earliest levels of DOOM), Mick himself admitted that the drums were really carrying the whole thing. The music starts getting way more hectic as you progress, since the gameplay scales in difficulty with the music. I recommend you check out a video called "The Brilliance of DOOM's soundtrack" by Raycevick.
