I kinda like the part with the moving wall of tortured souls. I'm tempted to make an AVGN edition of Doom through modding. Change all the weapons to NES accessories, add his beer bottle for close-up combat, change the avatar to AVGN doing his trademark facial expressions, and of course his one liners. The levels and enemies will be of the shittiest games he's ever played, of which he has to escape from.

I made a bunch of ideas for an AVGN Doom mod a long time ago. Here were the weapons I suggested (with some enhancements to the original post) and I'll give the rest if you want: Pistol: NES Zapper Fists: Same, except the punching hand is giving the middle finger Chainsaw: Power Glove (Shoots lightning like those gauntlets from Heretic) Shotgun: NES Controller (Inputs Konami code to reload it) Super Shotgun: SNES or Sega Genesis Controller (Inputs Mortal Kombat blood code to reload it) Chaingun: Atari 2600 Controller (Wiggles the joystick back and forth really fast when shooting) Rocket Launcher: Super Scope Plasma Rifle: Not sure (although one guy replied to my comment suggesting that it could be the light gun that the Magnavox Odyssey had and another suggested the Sega Menacer) BFG 9000: Atari 5200

Mike hit it on the head with FPS games and the puzzle aspect in Doom games. In doom after clearing a larger/later level in the game I get the same sense of accomplishment as I do when I beat a zelda dungeon. The puzzle design and overall stage design coupled with the speed and weapons will always make Doom a joy to play.

You actually can't on console, it's absurd, you can turn faster by holding run. Doom 2 on console has auto run/fast aim option

No clue people were complaining about you using a controller, that's ridiculous. Play however the hell you want. But using keyboard and mouse isn't just about being able to turn around quickly. For FPS keyboard and mouse is objectively better because of accuracy In general, aim assist doesn't pull your aim where you don't want it, movement while shooting is much easier(jumping for for example) without having to use a weird control scheme east access to all weapons through individual keybinds ect...

There is no other game in the 90s that was as cool or as evil as Doom. It was the end all, be all of games in every way. From the graphics to the music to the content to the gameplay, to the multiplayer.. Not to mention, you could make your own levels or download levels that people made and play against your friends. Literally a perfect game.

That would defeat the essence of Doom. If DOOM (2016) has taught us anything, it's that shooting the shit out of demons while deliberately smashing shit that might get you into a cutscene is fucking awesome. A proper Doom movie would be awesome, but no studio would be willing to dedicate two hours filming 'Doom guy' shooting shit in the face with zero exposition.

Here's something you gotta understand that those of us who played DooM on a Keyboard. In the early 1990s, Most controllers for IBM PCs only had two buttons. But by the time I bought a Gravis pad, which amazingly had FOUR whole buttons on it, I was already acclimated to playing DooM the KB way.

Having played both PC and console FPS games a lot of course a mouse is better for camera movement and accurate aim, but for smooth character movement like strafing and 8 directional movement I felt like an analog stick was more comfortable.

I have to say the bfg edition of doom kinda sucks though as they mapped sprint to l3 instead of the L trigger, that is a pretty essential feature in doom and having to keep l3 pressed in is a nightmare imo. So stupid, why?. I actually love the version of doom on OG xbox, controls feel awesome, especially pushing in those big deep triggers to shoot and sprint. Graphics are a bit muddy though..
