Every time you drop a new video I wish I could go get another project car, but I am not willing to park my '69 Camaro or '80 Scout II outside and my wife wont give up her spot in the garage so I am screwed till all the kids go off to college and I can build a new house with a nice big shop. Last time I even turned on my welder was months ago when I had to fix the frame on the kids trampoline.

Lol. I need a bigger shop too. Maybe some day but for now it helps sell the idea you can still build a Vert nice car at home in your garage. I also have a lead on a couple more cars like I need or have room for them….. well Maybe i do. Who needs a living room 🤣🤣

It really does save money vs. a panel replacement to make a patch. I just need to up my welding skills to make it look that nice without 2hrs of reworks lol! Great vid John.

I would love to see everything possible about the vintage air kit!! I'm going to need to install one for these California summers.

I will be doing a few videos on the install so that it can be done in sections. These kits are Nice and minimal mods to install by design. I have few mods in mind that enhances the kit, I will show the why when doing it.

Hope so. Definitely better then just filling it with filler, I have done several doors this way and had no issues with rust bubbles again

As a restorer, I never get the satisfaction of having a 100% restored car as I know every inch of that car and also know these cars are only new once..Looking forward to the Vintage Air install. I install many of these in Corvettes and customers like the idea of a factory look instead of the replacement flat firewall panel.

Hope the idea will work we shall see here soon.

I would have thought the rust would have been farther down into the corner. To help slow the rusting of the rest of the inside of the door skin, I apply Ospho after painting, since it will mess with paint adhesion. Another great video. Ty

I haven’t tried ospho yet. I have used cavity wax in blind areas. Do you use ospho on the inside of the lower door skins?
@FE428Power
@FE428Power 8 ай бұрын
@@VinylVillageGarage after I paint I'll brush it sloppily on the the inside of the door making sure it seeps between the door skin and shell. On the cougar I'll do it to the trunk lid and hood too. I'll turn them upside down to get the Ospho between the skin and the shell. If you do it before paint, you have to be super positive that the Ospho is completely dried. I'll do all my welding before Ospho, I've had contamination issues

@@FE428Power right on. I will try that out. I like sealing up the seam inside the doors but that sounds way easier

Fine job! Re: Vintage Air… Insight on the mounting bracket would be great. I have a custom smooth firewall and want to weld the support bracket or bolts in first. Don’t want to have bolts penetrating the firewall. Detroit Speed sells a bracket to do so but it’s 69 specific - insight into bracket that comes with the kit for a 67/68 would be greatly appreciated. 👍

I welded studs to the firewall on my 69 bird convertible, that is the one I used the DSE heater delete plate on, to mount the heater box. This car I have a new idea in the works hope it comes together like I see it in my mind. Time will tell

Great work. That door looks really nice. Thanks for the tips on the patch and on the parts issues, thankfully i havent ran into that too much...I still need lots of part tho so im sure it will catch up with me somewhere. Also, cant wait to see the vintage air system. Thats what i am planning on using on my bird and i am very interested on seeing how that works.

Do you use cavity wax on inside of panel, to help your fresh weld from rusting??
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Жыл бұрын
Yup. Inside the trunk drop offs, doors, rocker panels, 1/4 panels. For the most part all these areas have access holes to get it in there as well. It’s well worth the investment in materials to help prolong the life of you car.

Thanks buddy. The interior I ordered from AMES and to be fair it’s a deluxe parchment interior. If It was standard black I would bet it’s in stock ready to ship. I was anticipating 4-6 months back order when I placed the order not a year. I am hopeful it will come in sooner
