To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand James Lee. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of popular culture most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also James' nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike James Lee truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in James' existencial catchphrase "Oh My God..." which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as James Lee's genius unfolds itself on their screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a James Lee tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I absolutely love this. When I consider what "modern art" is, this. Kind of hits it on the nose. The sensationalization of modern media. Somehow desensitizing and over-sensitizing us to a point that every interaction we have online is polarized, tailored to elicit a target emotion and hit that dopamine high.

Don't know how many times I've watched this for fun, but the meaning just occurred to me. Social media dominates our lives and literally tells us how to feel. A few swipes of the phone seem harmless, but tells us how to feel and ultimately how to consume and serve capital.
@bane2201
@bane2201 Ай бұрын
I'm super glad more people are realizing the message! I've wanted people to realize this issue for years. Algorithms are designed to maximize watchtime. The easiest way to do that is to elicit an emotional reaction (anger, fear, sadness, etc.). It's parasitic. There's a normal range of human emotion, see the start of the video. But the more time social media uses you (no, that's not a typo), the more distorted and fast your emotions become. I have bipolar disorder, so I know how much it sucks. That's why I barely use any socials but this site anymore. I'm the easiest prey - they "love" me in the same way a gacha game developer "loves" a whale. I just hope more people realize what's happening soon. I recognized the problem because I am very familiar with the feeling of handing your emotions to someone else (that's how I'd describe mania). After realizing that, my view of social media is comparable to the notable mathematician Ted K.'s stance on the industrial revolution. (And that was the primary way people socialized during COVID, which was when some people's mental health plummeted. I didn't see nearly as many people with "main character syndrome" before that.) Sorry for the ramblings. Just really glad people are seeing the problem. Good on you for doing so! If you want me to share the list of social media-related changes I've made for my mental health, I'd be happy to do so.
@KnightGaming206

This is amazing and it really does convey the message of social media creating too many fake emotions in people. We go through so many temporary emotions when scrolling through social media that they become distorted and unreal. It can get overwhelming for people.
@spacetiime4786
@spacetiime4786 7 ай бұрын
I love how it is goofy but progressively gets more and more distorted and chaotic, very representative of how we cling onto social media, how we react and how it infects our minds just to get a bit of that dopamine! Very trippy and colorful, too! The usage of real-life and 2D drawn media is amazingly well done and honestly, the music is such a bop!

Honestly, as always this is beatuiful, bet the part that amazes me the most (with this and many other james lee animations) is how perfectly it sends a message. You see, a trap that many creators fall into is trying to add a message to their work, and most times it either comes heavy handed (when they try too hard to send the message) or undewhelming (when they don't try hard enough and it makes you wonder why they added it in the first place.) Somehow, james lee found that PERFECT sweetspot where the message of this video is sent loud and clear, without feeling like what i mentioned before. It takes a madter in his craft to manage to pull it off so well and so consistnely too.

Thank you, James. The monumental effort you put into this work caused my mouth to curl slightly and increased my dopamine by 1% for several seconds. Worth it, I'd say.

One day, I hope to see a collab between James and Cyriak. I doubt we'll ever be ready for it, but we'll love the horror show that transpires from it. Like a hideously frightening baby you can't help but adore.

Kinda ironic how this video messages the serious topic of how everything on internet is enginnered to give us MAXIMUM DOPAMINE. While at the same time, this video is probably the video with the most MAXIMUM DOPAMINE stuff. Like it had so much in the end i felt like exploding.

I'd kill to see James do a collab with Cyriak. James animating his own form to achieve Looney Tunes levels of cartoonshness, and then Cyriak taking that and warping it into nightmares beyond our comprehension.
