I have read hundreds of pages of material and listened to many lectures to understand neurotransmitters functions. This is absolutely brilliant. Clear explanation of dopamine functions and most importantly it's interactions with other neurotransmitters. It has educated me beyond my imagination in just 60 minutes. This is so important to understanding that people with addictions aren’t antisocial and ruled by selfishness and hedonism (the whole stereotype). In addiction, people are desperately seeking motivation for survival-related activities. None of us could get out of bed and go to work without dopamine. ❤

@cavaleer

It's not even as deep as "survival-related". It's simply not wanting to BORED. I refer to the great destroyer of Motivation, Interest, Attention, Joy in Life and Self, that we call SCHOOL. Our Prussian derived Educational pedagogy and curriculum literally DESTROYS the natural dopamine spurs that children have in vast abundance. By puberty children are essentially trained to be bored. A handful work well with the Memorize and Regurgitate pedagogy but the vast majority are simply done. This opens the door quite naturally to ANYTHING that will rescue their desperately sinking Dopamine pathways. It's so disgusting. The fact that we PAY for this and think its "normal" is the most disgusting part of it.

3-4 diagnosed adhd here Very nice presentation. I like the broad view but also the little insights as to what might be more theorethical, working nonworking and presenting both in a way. I think some of the things you sad Mdm showed a good deepness in some ways. Im desperately trying to find the right meds right now to have fun in life get my brain to work and do what i want to do (that will also benefit society quite a lot depending what stage) Some of thpeople anslogys of how antipsychotics/less dopamine can make paople foggy headed impair programm solvibg i experience that as a great part of adhd not only in paperwork but also in video games i play, ad if my brain does not care enouth to turn on the brilliance or even basi function depending on severity to make me able to solve the peoblem or work diligently towards it without my brain shutting off. Oh and pain and especially especially discomfort based on what my uncontrollable ort if my brain wants/does is extremly common and also very much impairing people can only take so much after all otherwise it would not be pain but a ignorable feeling. Now mild pain you can surely often take indefinitely especially if combined with good feelings and especially when dopamin/happy chemicals ease it. I am extremly carefull to fo gym, helathy eating and sleep but i dont see much impact of those if they are not severe or my cognition is so brolliant/considtabt that i even notice small stuff being off. This talk sounds really good , but I was not able to followvery well due to bad burnout and sleep debt. Might you answer some Questions, Dr Snipes please?: Does psychiatry examine the Dopamine amount / activity in patients presenting with drug-induced psychosis before putting them on neuroleptica for life? Does excessive Dopamine show as having high activity of ideas and rapid thinking sometimes? If my brain has only 58% functioning, can it be due to lack of Dopamine, or (other) biochemical imbalance, nutrient deficienctý,, severe insomnia for 25 years, getting only 50% sleep, or with my severe Anchylosing Spondylitis with Cervical spine problems and (very premature) dental inflammations with non-caries decay and teeth loss? May my concussion with brief unconsciousness at 14 have impaired my brain function?

I’ve been struggling to fix my bad habits and become healthier, more focused, etc… It’s hard. I don’t know if I have any severe imbalances, I probably have something wrong tho. I keep falling back to everything addictive. Frick man. I’ve never really taken any meds, but it seems like everyone takes something. Maybe I just need to talk to a doc. I had a concussion about 2 years ago (it was a bit after Covid came around) and my life quality seems to have dipped since then. Could I have had brain damage or something? It didn’t seem like a super serious concussion, I just remember pretty bad brain fog and stuff. I can’t precisely remember what I felt like before the concussion, but I did enjoy work before, and ever since, I haven’t really liked it as much. Now I just feel shitty all the time. Can a concussion do that? Or is it 100% my fault that im like this.

Great question. Shoirt answer is yes but i think its probably more nuanced than that. How? I think our clever organism drives the dopamine deficient to find & eat foods that provide specific nutrients which are building blocks for the synthesis of dopamine. Ergo a dopamine deficiency in the brain would see the brain signal hunger in order to get the building blocks it needs to increase levels. Once you eat sufficient dopamine raising nutrients that hunger would subside but ìf you ate standard garbage foods you would continue to eat and possibly chronically overeat in the purduit of dopamine building blocks. The overeating would likely cause hyperinsulinemia so howdy insulin resistance !! Just my hypothesis 🤓🌸

If you drink coffee regularly, you are an addict. Just like any other addict except different drugs have different consequences.
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching the video. Drinking coffee regularly does not necessarily make you an addict. Addiction is characterized by the continued use of a substance or activity to escape, numb, or self-medicate emotional or physical pain despite problems in one or more areas of living as a result of use. Regular coffee consumption can lead to dependence, where your body gets used to having caffeine and may experience withdrawal symptoms without it. However, dependence is not the same as addiction. Dependence simply means that your body has gotten used to having that substance in it. You can become dependent on a lot of things, such as food or water, without being addicted to them. It's also important to note that the term "addict" is often associated with negative connotations and stigmatization. It's more accurate and respectful to say that someone has a substance use disorder, rather than labeling them an "addict". Different substances do indeed have different consequences. For example, caffeine can lead to increased alertness and energy in the short term, but excessive consumption can cause insomnia, restlessness, and rapid heart rate. On the other hand, substances like alcohol or opioids can have much more severe and potentially life-threatening consequences. In conclusion, while regular coffee drinkers may develop a dependence on caffeine, this does not necessarily mean they are addicts in the clinical sense of the word. It's crucial to understand the difference between dependence and addiction, and to use respectful language when discussing these issues.
@roblovegreen
@roblovegreen 8 ай бұрын
@@DocSnipes Everything you described about addiction is true with coffee. People don’t drink it because I’d like to taste. It’s bitter. They hide that taste with sugar and creamer. They like the way it makes them feel which leads to dependence. Yes, but they keep going back because of addiction.

I am seeing a Doctor, But perhaps you can give your own perspective on this. I have an issue with getting dopamine hits from masturbation orgasming and I am addicted to it. I can feel the flooding occuring in anticipation and it's uncontrollable. it bothers me till i eventually give in and get high off of it. I notice when i try to refrain for some period of time i become unhappy and irritable and agitated. When I give in and commit the act, afterwards all I seem to do is isolate myself from people and play video games all day in my room and lack motivation to want to go to work and I devlelop social anxiety. As opposed to when I refrain I am able to delay gratification and seem to have more motivation to go to work. Could this be an addiction I have? could some Neurotransmitter be off balance? I told my current Doctor about this and have started recently about to be a month on Prozac. I was diagnosed as a kid with ADHD and was put on concerta m childhood than got off of it at the age of 13. Than now I been diagnosed with OCD apparently since my doctor thinks this is a compulsive behavior. I am leaning toward it has to do more with the dopamingeric reward system instead of the serotonin system. Your thoughts and advice appreciated.

Hi. Im a meditation practitioner and recently started to naturally produce opioids and dopamine on my whole body (mostly legs) and mind( head area). It is not just simple relaxation. Actual morphine like pleasurable sensations siffused by the body that energizes and relaxes. Very profound stuff. Cant believe the brain has the potential to create so much joy and pleasure so quickly without substance use :) in fact, my legs are full of pleasurable sensations right now. It is tricky to develop this skill but it is possible. I used to be very depressed. After about 4-5 years of committed meditation samatha practice, my hedonism baseline gone to outer space. I have this natural seratonin dopamine production I can develop for the rest of my life :))
