Lil Nas X is even bigger now, but who knows how much he's really making. I think Lil Nas X traded his independence for super stardom, while Russ was willing to sacrifice superstardom from a label for full control over his money and brand.

I think he was already a superstar honestly. The success of old town road propelled him to superstardom, it was a major mainstream hit, Russ’ songs are more like underground hits.

lol funny comment, Lil Nas X went Diamond for Old town road he had more leverage into negotiating his contract.

@@keikei1943 he still traded his independence for superstardom. Perhaps he made his money but the label still calls the shots. It’s not a bad thing or anything, I was just noting the difference.

I have a lot of respect for independent artist; their hustle is different because they truly have to believe in themselves. Kevin Gates was independent and he had the opportunity to sign to Cash Money and didn’t. Young M.A. had the opportunity to sign to a major label and she declined. Both were putting out music for at least 3-5 years before that one song made their career project. I noticed a lot of artist these days don’t want to put in the work and bet on themselves. Slow and steady wins the race.

Must be tough to watch this back after Montero. You get signed, you get more resources and larger platforms for distributions. Things take more time but don't count someone as down and out.

Tunecore might pay faster, but im smaller increments. I make anywhere between $300-500 on DK a month so that def looks better than oppose to 100 or 125 a week. I'll just stick with DK in that sense, plus I'm in no hurry to get paid by DK as I have a full-time supervisor job thay pays well.

Wait he left Columbia? Why?
@Cyzure
@Cyzure 4 күн бұрын
He's famous now and doesn't need to keep splitting his music profits. The deal was just to get him where he needed to be look wise. Now he has the fanbase to make way more than he would staying with Columbia. It would make zero sense for him to stay when he makes all his own shit and he knows all the radio people and industry people in positions of power that he met while at Columbia. More power to him.
