Plenty of cool animals that aren't oversized you could try animal friendship with. Vryatcyls, Vornskyrs, heck there are even animals that are Force Sensitive too. Take a look at a Star Wars Beasiary and there are dozens of options. Though to be fair, Animal Friendship probably isn't actually Light Side specific. The Nightsisters, a Dark Side sect of Dathomiri Witches, are one of the most famous examples of Force Users taming Rancors with the Force.
