Usually, when a character like Red is that smart, they're cynical jerks who destroy all in their wake. Instead, he uses his intelligence to benefit himself and literally everyone around him save for a few like Prof. Oak (who didn't bother to look up bulbapedia, so he asked for it, lol). His friendship with Scyther was actually really wholesome, like, Red never looked down on him and saw him as an equal, even was willing to change history to make him happy. I really hope this series comes back someday.

Cutting someone or something is not automatically a one-hit kill as it entirely depends on where that person or animal is cut and how deep the cut is. Even if the wound is mortal/fatal, the victim doesn't die right away from one cut. They can usually last for a minute or two at the very least, even if you cut their throat. The only think I can think of that is similar to cutting that would be a one-move instant kill is severing the person or animal's head. That's not the same thing as cutting though.
