I have self isolated in shut down in order to prevent my pain vibe from affecting other people I care about. 8 years...healing for a year now finally.

When I’m around people I feel like I’m putting on an act. I’m pretending to be a normal person. Then I get home and I turn off again.

I have spent so much time in shutdown. I just want to lay down and never move again. It’s so hard to get up and go to work. I work with the public, so I have to be able to fake it until I’m done for the day. I relate so much with Charlotte. I have bad habits that I have used to get back into my body.

I've been in shutdown my whole life from a scary traumatic family I was born into. I don't "miss the old me" nor "miss my old hobbies" nor "wish I could go back to normal" because this is my normal. The deepest part of me just wants to die and has no interest in healing exercises. Vagal work has improved my symptoms, but it hasn't given me a reason to live.

Pretty similar to me. People don't get it. They think life is just easy. I have to try so hard to push myself through life.

Well. You have certainly covered all of the symptoms of shutdown. Brings to mind for me the Barnum (Foyers) effect of shutdown. To me, from the clip, the term ' shutdown' can relate to anyone. So hyper generalised and ambiguios!

If you read the comments of my shutdown videos, you'll find many people who feel the descriptions fit their experiences exactly. The experiences of shutdown are very distinct from sympathetic, ventral vagal, or the freeze mixed state. It sounds like this is new to you based on your many comments across my videos (thanks btw). You might be interested in my "Polyvagal 101" podcast series which goes over the basics. I wouldn't launch into my other material without going into that first.

Please speak on DBR (deep brain reorienting) the numbness/shutdown arises from the defensive response of the brainstem. Bascually shock not being cleared. Anytime someone is numb there is a level of shock that hasn’t been processed. DBR aims to liberate the shock at the deep level therefore allowing the affect to flow. You can go for years being numb nothing changing, it’s because there is shock at a brainstem level that inhibits the affect sensations and emotions

Shock correlates more with freeze, not shutdown. (if by 'shock' you refer to an acute traumatic incident)

I watched this for a friend in shutdown. I am in freeze. Could you make this same video for freeze? 🫶

Someone else asked the same. I would like to expand my survey significantly. It might be something I do in the future.
