Double Feature Scrapping in the Morning

Kicking myself for not taking those blinds. They were worth more than all the scrap combined. Not a big payout at all, but that's the way it goes if I don't take the time to separate the motors from the shred steel.

that's not true. When someone puts something on the curb they have abandoned it. but once the trashman puts it into their trash truck it becomes their property. The police fought for that to be the case. People have brought charges against the police for taking trash and lawyers for the police fought all the way to the Supreme Court for trash to be public domain until the trash collector takes possession. Please do your homework before posting something untrue.

Yes if the trash is on the curb you are correct, the moment you open a bin you are invading someones privacy, this abandonment excuse you use is utter crap to justify what you are doing is illegal once you start going into the bin, in your argument every time you exit your vehicle you are abandoning your vehicle and therefore it's fair game. Things on the curb in plan view is open game, jumping into a dumpster is trespassing, opening someones trash bin and rifling through there belongings is also trespassing, try this crap at my house and I'll be more then happy to demonstrate how a property owner using the right terminology can have you brought up on legal charges. I have nothing against what it is you are doing, I too trash pick but I have never opened any ones trash bin, you are giving us all a bad reputation, I'm just glad I follow the laws and pick gated communities with the HOA's permission, keeps my competition down to a minimum.

@@madhatter3737 According to the Supreme Court of the United States of America, any trash on a curb (even in a barrel, bin, or dumpster) is considered to be abandoned property. Unless it is illegal in a particular municipality or posted "no trespassing", it is fair game. Dumpster diving is legal under the same circumstances. I feel sorry for people who have to prove their ignorance by putting other people down. Your tone is reprehensible. I shall pray for you to be able to admit your own mistakes, learn from them, and become a better person as a result.

I just subscribed a few days ago, and I enjoy watching your videos especially the double feature here very much! :-) I started scrapping in August of 2017, Total newbie, and I've already made 1100 bucks in scrap, and resalable items on a buy sell trade site. No eBay needed! And you are right sir, you really do find a lot of very cool stuff when your scrapping! It is just like a daily treasure hunt! And my wife is very supportive of it! Time to teach us: Ok we watch you as you pick up many kinds of scrap then you test it for steel, aluminum, brass and copper. You also comment on whether pieces that have plastic have a majority of metal. So here's my question what do you do with the different materials and do they go to different scrap yards? That "haner" thing gave me a flashback. Years ago, knew this one guy who visited someone's place in the Phillipines. Over there, it was customary for the women to keep the place clean. She was used to using hands only for wiping purposes. The guy saw that and told her he was going to get her some wash rags to make the job "that much easier". Her response was, "Wash wags? What wash wags??"

You mentioned people putting trash in their recycle carts and where I'm at in Ohio. A lot of people do that and just use their recycle carts as another trash bin. It's sad, but I guess it's easier to toss something out rather than donating.

Been watching your videos for a while now and enjoy seeing what people are tossing out on the curb. I gotta say, you’ve gotten so much better with your video taping of your scraping. This one didn’t seem to have the camera focused on the items you were pulling from the bins. It seems like the camera was not pointed down towards the items. Maybe a wide angle lens would make it better.

It takes a lot of practice to improve oneself, take on the challenge! Example: Try to take your snips w/you when you have an inkling you may need them, if you don't you'll need them more often than not. The challenge doesn't end there, you also need to learn to put them back EACH time when returning to the car. Challenge your mind and it shall improve! Maybe a snip holster zip tied to the outside of the pick-up for convenience accessible from both sides?

Hey buddy. Just thinking on advice for you, you rent a storage space and it probably costs you 30 to 70 per month. Would it be better to buy a shed for your house with lock and store everything there. It would be paid off in wire copper etc... in a year then have no monthly bill after that. Just a idea.

Just as a side thought, have you considered collecting backpacks and items for the homeless and distributing them. Also, if you collect clothing, dishware, etc., that you find (clean as needed), so you can donate to Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., as a tax write off.

That case pertains to Police. You are not Police. You'll want to use caution before you grab something out of the trash. For example, if you pick up an item off the streets of New York City and put it in your car, you'd be violating a local law. In 2010, a man loaded a discarded air conditioner into his aunt's car and both of them were fined $2,000 each, according to a Consumerist blog post. The law prohibiting people from picking up trash and putting it into a vehicle is supposed to deter organized rings of criminals from profiting from people's trash. However, passersby on foot are allowed to take stuff from the curb, according to the city's Department of Sanitation. Check you local laws.

Loser not just police it's public domain. You can copy and paste as many Google articles as you want but Waste Management doesn't want steel brass copper in the recycling bins. They only want trash plastic glass and paper. The homeowner doesn't want the metals obviously, so no one cares, believe me, that we are taking away their unwanted stuff. There are people that push for victimless laws but no police officer is going to charge me for a crime because the Supreme Court case law of California versus Greenwood protects of them and their ability to collect evidence. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot lol.
