I've always liked the various 32 caliber handguns. Revolvers and autos. I've owned and carried many over the years. The 1st centerfire revolver I ever owned was a very old, very worn, very out of time- Iver Johnson-32 S&W short, 5 shot top break. It had been nickel plated at one time. I was 17 and had some extra hayfield $ to spend. I bought the gun from my best friend for $20. It had been his grandpa's. He included a handful of green coated rounds with it. My girlfriend bought me a nice leather holster for it. And she "liberated" a box of 32 ACP FMJ from her Dad and gave that to me. And it did in fact fire those just fine ! Lol ! They were my plus P loads for it ! Boy, I'm so lucky that revolver didn't blow up in my face ! Thankfully, I only shot 5 or 6 of those ACP's through it. I carried that ole gun around our farm and honestly, just about everywhere I went. Back then, in my rural area, it was accepted and alot of us young guys carried rifles, shotguns and handguns. Just much different times. And if we did have a fight, no one even thought about pulling a gun or knife. Didn't aim to rant. Good video like always Tools ! a 327 mag is SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than a 9mm. you’re looking at at least 420 ft lbs of energy, and with hotter loads you’re approaching closer to 500. if you move up to a longer revolver barrel you’re approaching over 600 ft lbs with 327

Surprising results. I'm a fan of both cartridges, and with the 327 Federal, I have always preferred a heavier bullet (115 grain Gold Dot). As to that Hornady 357 ammo...if it came apart that dramatically from a snubby, one wonders if it would perform well on a deer when pushed 300-400 FPS faster from a rifle. Suspect you'd be picking out pieces of lead and gilding metal from your meat...

Yessir. I was pretty impressed. I think It would do great from that barrel length.
@327SixShooter2 жыл бұрын
The gun I carry the most often is a .327. The recoil had to be pretty bad from that load. And i'm not sure I would want to shoot that out of my ruger lcr lol. The taurus you are using is 22 ounces. The lcr is only 17. I usually stick with the federal hst 100 grain .327 load or the buffalo bore jhp one. They are still reasonably powerful (gets you about what a high end 9mm +P will give you) and the recoil on those loads is still very manageable and you can get follow up shots reasonably quick. But I love the .327 because of its extra round of capacity and its versatility. My wife is very small and can't handle much recoil at all, however she can carry my ruger lcr loaded with buffalo bore .32 S&W long hardcast lead wadcutters 100 grain. She won't get expansion with that load, but it still gets 16 inches of penetration in ballistics gel and the recoil is like a .22 magnum with that load.
@ToolsandTargets2 жыл бұрын
It was definitely some hot stuff.😆
@dhamilton2012 ай бұрын
@327SixShooter Good to know. Thinking about a small revolver for my wife, just for ease of use and reliability. Do you think you're loosing much power running the 32 S&W Long HC, when compared to 327?
@327SixShooter2 ай бұрын
@@dhamilton201 sorry it took me a while to respond, but i've carried the s&w long hc. I feel like it can get the job done if you get good center mass hits like any other caliber. That is no ordinary .32 s&w long load though. I would guess that the pressures are more approaching .32 h&r magnum levels in energy. It gets 15 to 16 inches of penetration in ballistics gel after passing through 4 layers of denim. That is absolutely ideal. But with all that said, would I rather my wife carry .327 fed mag? Of course. You should carry the most powerful caliber that you can be effective with. Effective as in getting hits quickly on target accurately. My wife cannot be effective with .327 fed mag. It's out of the question. Hell it's a lot for even me to handle out of a gun as small and light as the ruger lcr, which is why I sometimes go back and forth between carrying .32 long hc wadcutters and .32 h&r mag as well as .327 fed mag. Having a more powerful round means jack if you miss your target. But .32 long with the right load is in the recoil class of .22 mag and .32 acp. And I would take it any day over those calibers. I think it's an effective load for self defense that isnt gonna scare you with the blast or flinch, but at the same time is gonna be effective on the target.

Gotta admit that I knew before watching this one that I'd come out favoring the 357. I've never really considered getting a revolver chambered for .327 mag. The 357 is more versatile, and you have more revolver models to choose from. But that was some great penetration and wound channel from both rounds. As always, I enjoyed your ballistic gel test. Definitely adequate for personal protection. And if you only shoot factory rounds and only carry / own one revolver for this purpose. It would work well. My dilemma is I am a 357 fan. I own several. Stubbys to hunting handguns to lever guns. Reload equipment, dies, Bullet casting. I'm all set up for 357. The versatility in loads is staggering. And 357 always just pushes 327 out. Those red tipped .357 Leverevolution rounds are designed for whitetailed deer hunting. I have them in .44 mag and 45/70. They put deer down for sure!

👍🏻😎 The first handgun I bought back in 1980 was a Ruger Blackhawk .357 magnum 6.5" barrel and the second handgun I bought back in 1985 was a Smith & Wesson 686 .357 magnum 6" barrel, both is stainless steel. I got both guns for less than what just one would cost today. I didn't buy my first semiautomatic pistol until 1990. I was a wheel gun only type for 10 years.

You can get Winchester white box 110 grain jacketed hollow-points for 357 Magnum that's what I called the light load that I carry in my taurus605 I only carry the Remington 158 grain jacketed hollow point in my 357 Magnum for self-defense
@ToolsandTargets Жыл бұрын
I think I might have some of those 110's.😎👍

I believe the 357 beat the 327 hands down of course the 327 stayed together but when you go to digging these bullets out of the victim the 357 would be devastating when you consider you got to get all those pieces out of the victim to thanks for the video

I have the Bond Arms Texas Defender in 357/38 and another barrel in 327. I carry it as a back up to my Glock 27 40SW with the 327 barrel and theSpeer Gold Dot 327 Federal Magnum Ammo 100 Grain Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point. It's less recoil and muzzle blast fire and has about the same ballistics. One shot at 4 yds. should stop the attack in the center of mass. It's mean and nasty round to say the least.

Would definitely love to see comparisons of different 327 federal ammunitions. I’d be really curious to see the speeds and damage from the double tap Barnes 60gr as well as the double tap hardcast. I carry my 327 with hammer down. So it was nice to see that it performs really well.

How about a woods round? Buffalo Bore, Double Tap and Underwood are showing some sparky performance with hard cast. Like to hear your thoughts. Maybe against hogs or even black bear it looks like a viable option.

I always get a kick outta the grips on your Taurus revolvers, they go well with the classic steel design. As far as the grooves on the grips go, I actually like them EXCEPT when I shoot .357 from my 605, but those grooves make it easy to get a nice firm grip when drawing my from my pocket. Watching .357 jelly tests never gets old, especially checking out the wound channels!

Thank you sir. I love these G10 grips. The spikey ones I had on were definitely nice for grip but yeah, when I had something spicy loaded they chewed my palm up like a rabid wolverine!

Man, I wasn't really impressed with the leverevolution....i picked some up at rural king to shoot deer with from my Henry after Paul Harrell chronod them at 1850 from a carbine...maybe more expansion at the higher velocities? But that was weak next to the 327....thanks for the test tools, gave me something to ponder

Both rounds showed characteristics of good performance even with using the "rifle ammo" and you wouldn't do bad carrying either one for self protection. To be honest I'm not a fan of the .327 Mag, I have nothing against it and no reason to bash it. I am a huge fan of the .357 Mag. (which is my EDC caliber). I like the variety of ammo choices and the certainty of stopping power the .357 Mag provides. Again, nothing wrong with or against the .327 Mag cartridge. Enjoyed seeing the magnums being tested, good job as always! Do you have any future test planned coming for .44 Spl / Mag? Take care and stay safe my friend!

A 38 with Underwood or BuffaloBore ammunition will do what the 327mag did in this test. If you have a 38 and don't want to spend the money on a 327mag, but want a little more umf, give it a try. If you are buying to get six rounds, you might look at the Taurus 856. It's much cheaper to practice with a 38 than 327mag, but each to their own.

I just checked ammo seek. No dice on the Hornady 140gr. I have some of those FTX projectiles for hand loading. I want to see how they perform as a 38Spl+P+ load (there is a yawning chasm in charge weights between 38Spl+P and 357 Magnum). The unloaded bullet is an intimidating beast! It is taller than a 158gr LSWC! Probably due to the hollow cavity filled in with caulk.
@ToolsandTargets2 жыл бұрын
I really should set aside some time to mess around with some handloads.
@Fudmottin2 жыл бұрын
@@ToolsandTargets That would be fun! The only FTX bullets Hornady sells are the 140gr ones. Otherwise you are stuck with the XTP line. The Barnes TAC-XP line is out there. And Gold Dots. Heck, depending on purpose, the sky is the limit! And seeing how a potential loading component can perform in gel would be great.
@lonewanderer3603 Жыл бұрын
This is a year old but did you start hand loading 327 yet? There's 115 swchp and 125 SWC bullets available. I'm hoping with 30 Super Carry coming out we start to see some 115 jhp components hit the market. Gold Dot used to have them but they got canceled a few years back.
