As a retired kindergarten teacher, I used to use To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street in my creative writing lessons. I had south and east Asian students in my class every year. All my students just saw people and animals doing silly things. None of them even identified, or identified with, the characters, other than the main character and how he gets creative with a simple thing. Adults are using their personal bias to assume what children see and learn. Now that kids spend most of their time inside on electronics, where they have lost the opportunity to naturally learn critical thinking outside where they were semi-unsupervised, it is the job of adults to teach a child to be a critical thinker. Lack of critical thinking skills is severely lacking starting with millennials because that is the generation who grew up with helicopter parents, indoors, hand-holding and “everyone gets a trophy.” This is the generation, where cancel culture began and who has the most problems with social media content and the people with whom they disagree. Xennials, GenX, Boomers, +, all had unsupervised indoor and outdoor playtime, where these critical thinking skills were developed.

I largely agree with you, but would like to push back on what you're saying about your students never being disturbed by it. There's a pretty powerful power dynamic at play between teachers and students. How certain are you that none of your students found things disturbing or internalized a message that they were some sort of "other" who "wasn't normal" and never spoke up about it?

We played in our front yard, and rode our bikes around our neighborhood with friends. We went on walks with friends as well. Although we did grow up middle class and lived a comfortable lifestyle. I lived that my parents did not spoil us and bought us everything we wanted, we had to earn it. I noticed that my friends who did have everything they wanted were always bored. @@jf4814 it changes as we know more. That's how everything in Healthcare is. There are some old hallmark studies that stand the test of time, however more research on anything will add to our collective understanding. That's how we nail down best practice in the context of new medications and treatments. For example, If we get a new class of blood thinners then we need to find out not only how well they work in real life but how they compare to the old ones. Then years go by and we need to know if combination therapy is even better. Then a reversal agent is approved which makes the medication much safer. Then you're taking that into context and the teams that create guidelines will consider that in their next review and release a new guidelines. That improves care and saves lives. It's a good thing! Our mask mandate went away in Montana in January. Since that time, cases have plummeted, and that is with our churches, bars, gyms and restaurants wide open. At first, most still wore a mask, but now almost no one does. We literally have 1 COVID patient in our hospital with a catchment area of 250k. I am not convinced masks do squat. Our kids' schools no longer require them. People are smiling, playing together, again. If masks were that protective, as everyone stopped wearing them, cases would rise, not fall. Yet fall they have for months on end. It is not a formal study, but here we are.

This isn't the area to give you references but I can explain the truth as reported by the CDC and not some power huniungry Democrat. Covid-19 is nothing more than another influenza. It is caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus. The 2018 flu epidemic was caused by the SARS-Cov-1 virus. The present pandemic itself killed only some 4500 people who have a genetic disorder that causes their immune system to attack cells that contain the covid-19 virus rather than the virus itself. Another group were old and with severe circulatory problems. The same group that is always killed by flu. Today as the fascist Democrats and their media cohorts are trying to stoke as much fear as possible, total deaths are 30% below normal. There were more Americans killed by the 2018 SARS epidemic and the numbers they have been quoting are totally bogus. A lot of people have died above normal but it was from the lockdown and closing of businesses. The vast majority of those who died were grossly obese and the only exercise they got was from working. With the worry about keeping house and family together, they turned to alcoholism which put still greater strain on their bodies. Fauci is responsible for far more deaths with the help of the Democrats who used covid-19 as excuse to rig the election. The takeaway from the CDC study on "Non-Pharmacological Methods of Controlling Influenza" is that face masks are only of use for bank robbers.

I have often wondered why some countries have essentially given up and don’t seem to be social distancing or adopting masking to the degree as we here seem to be fixated upon. I have family in india and many have now said they want to enjoy life. They have now gone back to massive large events, packed cricket stadiums, movie theaters, Bollywood parties, award shows, political rallies, weddings and overseas vacations etc. In the past few months dozens of Bollywood stars have been diagnosed but they take off two weeks and then they are back. None of these stars have died and thus I think that sets a narrative in the minds of the general public which has been echoed by my family that if you get covid you take two weeks off snd then you are fine. They say that deaths are amongst those who are very old or have some serious health conditions. From day one we have known that this virus largely kills one population type. And yet we tried to protect everyone when perhaps that was not necessary. We ignored the costs of economic devastation, suicide, depression and kids not being educated. I think the reason why so many of these poor nations seemed to have gone back to a level of normalcy is because they accept death whereas we in the wealthy nations do not. Yes their cases are rising but I don’t think they are talking about anymore strict lockdowns. For many poor countries, death is a part of life. For us we try and save everyone from death. That’s why we have a very old population. I feel we in the west have become a very frail scared people. We seem to be afraid of life, witnessed by the rise of cancel culture trying to stamp out anything they deem offensive. We have all become victims. Whereas India, Thailand, China and dozens of other poorer nations have started the path to live with this virus whereas we talk endlessly and obsess about variants and double masking.

You have a pretty good handle on the problems associated with social media and the mindset that is cultured therein. Certainly, it's the algorithms that are driving away the thinkers and leaving the easily duped followers and thus creating an entire society of people who fall into the trap of seeking acceptance by succumbing to the groupthink and thus become a very large and formidable voting block that ends up pushing public policy through pressure on the legislators. In this respect, the social media feedback loop is now wielding more power over the body politick than even the politicians and will have to somehow be brought into check. Outside of KZbin, for posting my own videos (and Rumble!) I invest no time in the other platforms. You and Doc Prasad do an excellent analysis of the social media censorship here. It's a problem that needs fixin'.

I will argue what I have held for years: if you are offended by the opinion of another, that is your choice and your fault. It is a personal failing, a personal insecurity and a weakness to change in yourself.

I’m a conservative and love your honesty on double masking. It’s virtue signaling and distraction plain and simple. Glad you guys support the most vulnerable. So do I. I won’t share what I do through my church, but conservatives care just like progressives. Let’s join forces and inspire each other. Helping others isnt and shouldnt be a competition. I forgive your stereotyping just like we’re guilty of the same crap. Conservative is rarely alt right, and liberal isn’t always Antifa. This name calling is bottom feeding. If we can’t shake hands, America is finished. Keep up the good work. I won’t watch mainstream media anymore, and it’s because of people like you. You ruined me in a good way (and I don’t even agree with you on 100%).

“If you fail as a politician, if you fail as a leader, how do you distract away from your failure - you put more emphasis on personal responsibility.” Epically true - in this and so many other things related to this..... obesity, healthcare, pollution.....

its a silly excuse, but overall the right advice. since when politicians are responsible for your obesity?

Fairly new listener. I’m sure Dr. Z has addressed this before but I’m just starting to go through some videos... He talks about line cooks being the most at risk/vulnerable...what are his thoughts on take out/curbside/delivery? Not inside/outside dining but just to go.

To Dr. Prasad, re: the fight against corruption: The Aiel oath, from Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series: "Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day."

Listening to this, I think it’s really difficult to get proper information on the virus itself. It seems also a lot more study is needed on not so much on its biological factors but its real world effects on the population.

Thank you for opening the conversation on this. You asked "where is the outrage" about the insane refusal to put kids in school...there is outrage. Conservative circles have been saying this for a year now. I'm glad even those who consider themselves "liberal" medical experts can see this too. If only we could convince those in charge. (I'm a practicing physician like yourself (neurology). Keep up the good work.)

I am quite far left, but watching those I'd long considered my allies throw the kids under the bus in their goal to make any possible COVID mitigation measure the only thing that matters? I lost my political identity watching those fools scream, "Keep schools closed!"

@Denise Skinner I don't understand your question. You mean one virus we don't have a vaccine for? Many.

Adenovirus, rhinovirus (common colds), EBV (epstein barr virus), HIV, hepatitis C, roseola... Ebola...west nile, and until now, other variants of coronavirus

Uhhh none. Viruses are not spread by vaccine. You don't get a virus from the vaccine.
