And/or why missiles meant for dogfighting (such as AIM-9) are launched from rails and not ejectors. Hence why F-35 can't carry them internally and why F-22 has special rail launchers for them (among at least one other possible reason in the Raptor's case).
@ThePersianKing3 ай бұрын
@@productNine True. However, even launching from rails under high enough G forces (positive or negative) can cause problems. So even a rail-launched missile can malfunction if it's being lunched during a hard bank that puts high +/- G forces on it. I can't remember the channel but I saw a retired F-15 pilot react to a GS video. One thing he pointed out was that GS likes to roll, invert, and manoeuver during launches. He said that's not really how he would do things unless he was really under duress, basically even though missiles are SUPPOSED to work under various flight regimes, the best practice is to launch in the most stable configuration to avoid incidents. In this case the missile came off wonky and GS was rolling into it.

I have a feeling it will not go well for the F16 since it can only carry a measly 6 missiles in comparison to the F-15 EX. The F-16 can't keep the F-15 defensive for long enough and once those missiles run out, the F-15 can just push for the kill without any worry about retaliation until eventually the F-16 gets smacked in the face by an AMRAAM well within the MAR.

I was thinking about how chaff can’t produce a doppler shift signal to an incoming Fox-3 because it just floats there in the air and flutters downward. How about a missile defense missile? Something that drags a ribbon or screen of mylar in the general direction of the threat. Cheaper because it doesn’t need a radar or guidance system, doesn’t need a munition head. It just needs to fly level and straight, and avoid terrain. It might be considerably lighter, but it would take up a load point. Maybe I should pitch this to Raytheon, and get a job there.

With 16 AMRAAMs at your disposal and the EX's crazy good radar, I wonder if the following strategy could work: - Fire your first missile outside of range to send your opponent defensive off the get-go, before they can even get a missile off. - Do not defend after launching that missile as you normally would, keep pressing. Obviously, you'd defend if you get a pitbull missile notification, but not before. - Just keep firing missiles at intervals as you draw closer and eventually get the kill Basically, I'm thinking you could just keep the bandit on the defensive the entire time and never allow for a re-commit. You have said in a previous video that BVR sometimes feels like two people in a gunfight, each of them behind a rock, each waiting for the other guy to pop out from behind his rock and shooting the other before they are shot themselves. In the strategy I'm suggesting, it would be the equivalent of just walking at the other guy's rock, continuously shooting with a machine gun, never giving him the chance to take a shot at you, and then just putting him down on the spot. It may not be a good strategy if your opponent has missiles that outrange the AMRAAM, of course (hypersonic, meteor etc) because they'd possibly be able to get off the first launch before you, even if you were firing out of range. But I think it would be a fun tactic to try out on an unsuspecting bandit in a situation with near-equivalent missiles like in this video. They would be expecting you to do the usual tactic of getting in range, firing then defending, rinse and repeat. But with SIXTEEN missiles to work with, you can afford (with US taxpayer support) to 'waste' a few missiles that you know won't hit but can send the bandit defensive anyway. And then just keep doing that. See if you can just run the enemy down without ever having to go defensive once. Jamming may also help in this scenario, if it helps you get off that first AMRAAM before the other guy can fire. As an aside, I'd love it if you'd make a video that focuses on jamming in general. I've seen it come up from time to time in your videos, but it's one of those concepts that's still somewhat unclear for me in how exactly it works and how effective it is, so it would make for a great educational video opportunity.
