Ninjago is a SURPRISING Decent cartoon network cartoon. No Regular show or Adventure Time Good. But still it has character arcs, decent plots, consequence, and stakes. A character becomes a Ghost stays as a ghost for like two seasons it boggled my mind that happened.

They sacrificed Zane's and Garmadon's entire characters for the sake of dated jokes, bad move Lego, Zane is a guy who was looking for his parents, just to find out that a scientist created him because he wanted a son, while Garmadon was bitten by the Great Devourer, a giant evil snake, whose venom, if it doesn't kill you, corrupts you, guess what happened to Garmadon, and he is not a deadbeat dad, he genuinely wants to be in his son's life, but can't because his corruption made him a bad influence to Lloyd (who initially wanted to be a villain), he gets cleansed of the venom later, he is also Sensei Wu's brother.

Zane is a robot because in the Cartoon Network TV Series Zane thought he was human but he wanders off to find his original parents,and eventually finds out that his "father" created him from scratch as his own robot son

LEGO Ninjago is an existing franchise and LEGO theme. It has been around since 2011 and the animated show still continues to air after 7 seasons (with 2 more seasons confirmed for the future). The Ninjago series is not nearly as focused on comedy as it seems the movie is going to be, though it does center around the characters showed in the film. The story/plot of the show and theme departs greatly from the "high school students are secretly ninja" cliche. I've been a fan of the theme since 2012 and while I'm happy to see the characters I love up on the big screen, I absolutely agree that a lot of this movie feels like it's trying too hard to be hip and funny, so a lot of the characters and their personalities were re-written for the movie so they AREN'T the characters I love. Also, Zane's origin as a robot is explained in its entirety in the show. So not everything is translated properly in the movie from the theme itself. :/

Rachel J He absolutely was not a DJ. His father was a singer and dancer (and Cole attempted to be a dancer at one point too), but he never went through with that. I guess being a DJ would be a very big exaggeration of Cole's small connection to music in the show.
