@JonJayAllDay15 күн бұрын
Yeah both Marvel and Sony could take lessons from DCs success with The Penguin. Marvel is treading water due to multiple factors but one of the most common reasons I hear is because the tendencies and execution of these MCU movies and shows feels formulaic and it’s gotten stale to people. Sony completely missed the mark, they had the right idea by taking Spider-Man villains and giving them their own origin stories but they tried to force them to be antihero’s and nobody wants to see that especially if Spider Man isn’t gonna be in it. It’s basically over for Sony already, they just need to completely change course ASAP, but Marvel can take some of the ground work of what Sony was trying do, take a couple of elements from what made The Penguin so great, sprinkle on some that marvel charm and flair that people love and do some real super villain origin movies, and that would definitely shake and freshen things up.

I know rage merchants have made the concept of studios and the creative industry really nebulous in terms of who is to blame. And this is both helped/harmed by the presence of Disney and Marvel who hire really big name creatives to helm their various projects. Giving the impression that at some level, the people signing off on these films have, somewhere deep inside them, a taste and passion for cinema. But let me help illuminate what some studios (no names) are actually like on a creative level. They're the ultra rich. They haven't watched movies since they were seven years old and they don't watch TV unless it involves the daily trades. When they hire people for projects, they don't care if it makes sense, they just look at their box office numbers. They sit through pitches from acclaimed writers and directors wondering what they're gonna have for lunch. If it doesn't have an IP attached, they find a way to prescribe one. They don't read scripts, they have assistants summarize the bullet points. They're not looking to reinvent a genre, they're there to _ride_ them. It'd make little difference if they hired good writers, good writers wouldn't want to work with them, they're all told to just follow the Iron Man formula. And when their films fail, the fault goes to anything but themselves, and therefore have no reason to change their thinking. "Morbius bombed? Huh. Well we sunk $5 million into pre-production for Kraven so let's keep that going." So what if it bombs? They don't care. They've got golden parachutes waiting if things get _really_ bad.

Two things people need to be really talking about with this universe are the fact that all these films minus Madame Web were head produced by Avi Arad. If you know that name, you’ll know he’s been a part of many, very bad comic book film adaptations. Another thing we have to keep in mind, is that these films followed the now tired trope of turning a villain into an antihero. That trope has only worked rarely in small cases. The biggest one I can think of is Loki in the MCU, but at least that one was built up and they didn’t rush it through one movie.

A Usual Suspects meets Tarantino style Reservoir Dogs type flick with B tier (maybe even f*** up) villains like Stiltman, Chameleon, Tarantula having to work together with Hobie Brown/Prowler as the audience avatar (and newest crew member) to the craziness being interviewed by Captain Stacy about the wild team trying to steel from Vanessa Fisk while Wilson's away could've been a cool/different direction for Sony IMO

The problem is, Sony can't use Spider-Man as long as they have their deal with Marvel. So they can't use Tobey or Andrew in a live action movie. One question would be, does that "no Spider-Man" rule only apply to Peter Parker? What about Miles or Gwen? If they could use a live action Spider-Gwen, then that may be an answer. They are using Spider-Man Noir in a live action series so they may be able to use other versions of Spider-Man as long as it's not Peter. Those contracts can be very specific sometimes, leaving big loopholes. The actual contract isn't public so we just don't know what the rules are and what the loopholes are.

Are the latest bad movie roasts missing? I can't find anything past the Tony Hawk movie, didn't they post another one after it or am I remembering wrong?

We are disputing some copyright claims for our last roast (2 weeks ago) - We did not do a roast for last week.

25:09 That would've been a more fitting name for SSU to be honest since it doesn't even have an official name in the first place.

No one has mentioned how the public has wisened up to SONY not being marvel. When venom came out plenty of people thought it was a marvel project, but until now it was muggy as far as the moviegoing public

Honestly, there's just GOTTA be some contractual limit to using a separate live-action Spider-Man in the Sony movies, per their deal with Marvel Studios. At this point, that's gotta be the only reason why Sony hasn't done anything with Tobey or Andrew. It makes sense that a clause in the contract with Marvel Studios limits using any other Spidey to keep from oversaturating, cause in their minds it probably takes away from Tom Holland's films. That would also explain why Nic Cage's Spider-Man Noir is BEN REILLY and not Peter Parker.

Piggybacking on their idea about older Toby Peter getting his own movie that would be a good place to introduce the first official live action Miles Morales for him to mentor

miles, it's going to be extremely hard for him to find a properly mixed actor then if they do people will complain the mixed actor is not black skinned enough

Andrew is my favorite one out of the 3. Was SO happy to see him in No Way Home(and yeah,I cried when he saved MJ) Tobey and Tom were great,don't get me wrong but there's just something about Andrew's Spiderman that clicks with me. It'll probably never happen but I want him to get his third movie like Tom and Tobey. And again,like Tom and Tobey,I also want him to get with HIS MJ(Shailene Woodley)

I can most definitely see Sony selling Spider-Man to Disney in the future
@trembledust681915 күн бұрын
unless Sony Pictures goes bankrupt (which likely will not happen anytime soon since as a whole surprisingly enough their spider-verse movies have made them money) the amount of money Disney would need to pony up for the rights back it won't happen. It would be waaay too steep to pay.

We need to get avi arad out of movies. This man has some serious dirt on someone to keep being involved in projects despite them completely bombing

They should sell 51% of Spider-Man ownership to Marvel with the additional agreement that Marvel gets full creative control. Sony gets half of profits or revenue for any Spider-Man related films and a smaller portion of profits/revenue when Spider-Man related characters appear in other Marvel movies like Avengers

How Sony can fix their Spider-Man universe? Selling the rights back to Marvel should be the only answer.

The funny part is the best part of the movie (the animalistic way Kraven moves) is just ripped from the Beast in Split…

They can still have success in their universe. Garfield says he went dark . Make a new movie in which he’s beating the shit out of these villains , moribus , kraven , venom , and make him become venom . Now you got something

the worst idea was Marvel selling-off spiderman to Sony.

Thing is I think they could’ve made these movies work. With or without spiderman. And let’s be honest, with the writing quality, adding spiderman wouldn’t have fixed anything. And the first step is to let them be villainous except for madam web. I can think of ways they could’ve made these decent without spiderman… and they couldn’t even do that
