Did you research to see if the old remote controls would work on the new motor or is that always the case for the mercs?

I use to own a 1974 14-8 Glastron V-140 Skiflite with a 70 Evinrude (tri-hull fiberglass runabout, ~ 25-33mph - no GPS back then). Sold it and bought a 184 Champion with a 175 - 65 GPS (175 rating). 125 on my Glastron V-140 would have been a really bad plan due to the transom was engineered for 70hp max; and this boat's hull was never designed for fast speeds. Many non-professional tournaments have "no over-powered boats" in their official 2024 rules.

I have a Tracker Pro team 175tx with a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke. I have the Revolution hull. I can get 45 mph on a good day. Max HP rating for the boat is 75hp. The 60hp gets good mileage and gets me there fast enough. Just for knowledge, the 4 stroke is just as fast as the 2 stroke version, with less headaches.

I've got a Yamaha 90HP two stroke VRO motor on my Tracker Pro17. With the wife on it and loaded down for the day we can get 34mph as a top speed pretty easily. My max motor rating is 70HP. I rarely run it past 80% full power because the river has some turns that are 135°.

Doesn't matter how big your motor is , some hulls aren't built for speed

Try looking at the tag on the boat you have almost doubled the recommended hp could be some liability issues for you

I didn’t have any controls of the hydraulics, and didn’t feel like wiring it up so I just forced it haha

contradicted yourself sayin HP doesnt change top speed...... your statement about ability to pull the prop is the issue..... what was the hull designed to handle? its on a tag and is relevant mostly when park rangers pull an on water inspection ..... been there got a $250 ticket and had to go back to the previous motor

Horsepower doesn't change top speed, just changes how fast you get there. If you think speed isn't dependent on the prop, imagine what would happen with no prop at all
