I work for Audi as an apprentice technician and learned that all Audi models have the volume nob on the passenger side console for safety reasons. There have been a few cases where people crash by having the passenger reach across the center console to adjust the volume. It’s safer and easier to have it near the passenger side for guest convenience and on the wheel for driver convenience. Plus one thing I noticed that no one really talks about is the safety features. A lot of Audi models adjust airbag deployment based on occupant weight, height, and even seating position to help adapt the airbag force during an accident. In addition the seat belts tense up ever so slightly whenever someone is tailgating you to help anticipate the “inevitable” rear accident. Furthermore, the rear headrest will increase height and angle to help restrict whiplash during a rear end collision. Nonetheless I love your channel and I will definitely be watching it more when thinking about my next purchase within a year or so. Just waiting for more options to appear in the RS3 like motorized seats to help it stand out more from the Jetta GLI 😂

I believe the reason you don't get tire pressures until you're rolling is because of the way TPMS sensors work, not by actually measuring pressure but by measuring and comparing rolling radius across all four tires. The placement of the washer fill might be odd at first but you get to love it pretty fast. You also get used to the volume knob placement pretty quickly if you own any Audi that has that placement. When my right hand isn't on the wheel it's on the shifter and so the MMI and volume are right there..muscle memory. I just use that little storage spot for the fob. Not sure if that's the intent, but I put it either there or in the cupholder slot. And the sunshade...I love it. Every car needs one regardless of whether they have a glass panel or traditional sunroof. Allows air movement without any buffeting. Or bugs. Finally, your phone is still in the car.

The TPMS is the same on my BMW as well (it's a 2004 though, not 2019, no bias, I have owned an Audi before, just facts). I guess it's cheaper than having a separate pressure sensor in your wheel stem for all 4 wheels. Works well enough, telling from experience.

@@mraaaaaaa I'll bet that's it. A system that simply measures the difference in time it takes for 4 transmitters to ping at fixed points and then alert when one or more reach a fixed % based on you setting the system is probably pretty cheap, like a hall sensor in a distributor or an ABS ring. Individual sensors that measure actual pressure might be equally cheap but very few ppl will monitor them, and are happy enough to have the car tell them to tell someone else to fill the tires. I'd prefer to have the option, but I check pressures weekly so I really don't need it. I imagine it's more useful on an M3 than an RS5 as the former is much more a track car. My S excels at eating up highway miles and spirited mountain drives but I wouldn't do more than track days with it stock.

I own the A5 Sportback. The small storage next to the volume knob is for the key (I know it’s stupid but that’s what it’s for) and the deep storage compartment left of the steering wheel is for the manual pouch that fits perfectly in there. Final note, the volume knob next to the shifter is the best placement. You don’t have to lean forward to change the volume on the dash. If you drive like me with your right hand on the shifter, you can move 2 inches over to adjust the volume or skip to next or previous tracks.

The Car can only measure Tire Pressure while moving because it calculates it using each Tire's rotation speed, which it takes from the ABS sensors. An underinflated tire has a smaller diameter then an overinflated one, thus it spins faster relative to the vehicle speed.
@TheHeretic4355 жыл бұрын
Yours is the first comment actually related to the content/car. The attention/validation seeking in this channel's comments is bizarre.
@dakibmw5 жыл бұрын
That was the old, first generetion TMS.... Logic behind these newer/newish systems is that each sensor goes to "sleep" mode after a while, to save the battery (replacing the battery requiers removing the tire, which can be PIA for some people). "Speed" (i.e. rotational force) is needed to wake the sensor from sleep. The (very bigh IMHO) con of these system is that you don't have the info about your tire pressures in the second most important situation you need this info - when you are starting a drive (all you get is info about pressures at the time the system was last online, and that was at the end of your last drive). The most important situation when you need tire pressure info is slow to medium leak during long high speed drives (for example on autobahn).
@BejanKanga5 жыл бұрын
@@dakibmw Actually the Audi/VW system doesn't use batteries at all. There is no sensor in the tire. As the above comment mentioned, the car uses the ABS system to look at relative wheel speed and measures tire pressure that way. Audi/VW does this in most (all?) their cars. The benefit is that you don't need to order tires with sensors in them.
@SoulTouchMusic935 жыл бұрын
@@BejanKanga yeah, it seems a lot more reliable, cuzz abs sersors work way longer than a wheel sensor that can be easily damaged. but i believe it will get tricked by different tyre compounds. still good enough to warn you that you need to inflate your tyres.

Springs too hard for bumpier roads? Feel everything under you or a nice balance of feel and performance. Once we know what this car is, then the conversation about which Audi you would prefer based on Price/Performance is relevant. How it drives is the main thing and I think that was missed here. The volume wheel on the steering wheel is 100% the better place to have it anyway. It's clearly designed so the passenger has easy access to it as well. I can't believe that is even a criticism. I was expecting you to say, the volume wheel on the steering wheel is how most people adjust the volume anyway so having it on the center console cluttering things is unnecessary and then follow up by pointing out the secondary knob placed near the passenger so they can still control the volume too, WHICH GOOD THINKING AND DESIGN.

Douglas, those gas prices are listed with cash and with credit prices. Many gas stations charge more for a credit charge vs. paying in cash, in order to make back the fee they are charged by their credit card processing company to use their charge system. Also, the Audi TPMS requires the driver to be going 16mph or greater in order to take a tire pressure reading because Audi uses an indirect TPMS system, which doesn’t use a sensor on each tire to measure the tire pressure. Instead, the car uses a combination of laser readings and wheel rotation speed readings along with other calculations to determine if any of the tires are rotating at a different speed from the others, indicating that a tire is under or over inflated. This system requires fewer components, is more reliable, breaks less, doesn’t require a new sensor with new battery each time a tire is replaced, and is even more accurate than a direct system.

Douglas, the large center air vent in new Audis is what’s known as the "wide-vent," and can be set to either an open or closed position by toggling the same switch you use to change the climate control setting from 3-way/sync/rear-set options. This wide-vent acts essentially as calibration to maintain desired cabin temperature, and when it is set to the open position, a very subtle airflow is emitted. It is also a useful tool on extremely hot or extremely cold days, as you can use it to test the temperature of the A/C or heat when you are just entering the car. To do this, upon turning the vehicle on, simply set the blower to the off position, but turn the wide-vent to the OPEN toggle option, and you can feel how hot or cold the air is getting. When it is at your desired temperature, you can then turn back the blower for the rest of the vents. This way you won’t be bombarded by hot air on a hot day and frigid air on a frigid day when you just get into the car and turn the vehicle on.

The reason you have to be going 16+ for the tire pressure monitor to work, is because it's actually in the hub of the car. It's not tire mounted like traditional tpms, it judges by the actual rotation speed of the wheel. 👍🏼

Hi Doug, nice review, but about the little odd things: 1. the little storage space is for the key 2. the dash with the grill from one side to the other is inspired and paying respect to the dash of Audi 100's dash from 1980's ( more or less every European car manufacturer brings back the history and heritage in their cars) 3. the volume placed on the right side middle is only logical as the passenger in the right could easily turn it instead of reaching out to over the gear knob and into the driver near proximity / the driver has one on the wheel anyway...so it makes more sense, isn't it!? 4. tire pressure...over 16 Miles/hour ... well, this is due to the technology involved in measuring the pressure...there are 2 options..first having inside the wheels the monitors of the pressure, that is probably more expensive and over time, not so reliable, if you change a lot the tires, those could be damaged easily, and second, used here, is actually measuring trough the ABS system the rotation speed of every wheel ...is any tire has a lower pressure, will become "smaller" in size, and will turn more to keep up with the rest of the wheels, so hence higher rotation speed...in this way the system is measuring the pressure and detects a fault in pressure with one tire, and that is why you need a speed more than 16 miles per hour to set it, as it needs to register the wheel turns for each tire , and standing still it's impossible... right? :)

To me, the Audi infotainment is great! I am an Audi owner. Have a 2016 Audi S3. The Audi connect features are helpful, but the google earth GPS is my favorite! You can even do street views in your gps map. It’s insane.

The tire pressure thing is because of how vw measures pressure... they use the tire rotation speed to tell the pressure Also that little storage spot on the centre console is for your car key
