One law Canada has that I love is it's against the law to sell anything above list price , no matter what and especially cars! If you even suspect a dealer is doing it there's a whole section of government dedicated to chasing the rule breakers down with dealer crushing fines .
@ritchierichh2 жыл бұрын
But they bypass this by adding items to the new vehicle, like underbody spray, rust protection, film protection etc, and easily bump up the price by 3-5k. It's all done in-house so they're still making bank by not contracting it out to someone else. What I also find some dealerships are doing is getting a close or familiar friend or family member to buy the vehicle, then sell it back to the dealership. Now they can mark it up for whatever they want.

The reason why they charge more for the unpainted carbon fiber wheels is because you need to take special care how the grain looks like (usually manual labor). When you paint them you can mess up the grain as long as their structure is satisfying.
@tjseid2 жыл бұрын
Tavarish said when he sanded down his mclaren 675LT’s paint the carbon weave was perfectly aligned
@StingrayK392 жыл бұрын
No, fiber direction is important to structural integrity, so that has to be right to get the desired performance. The real reason is that carbon fiber degrades rapidly when exposed to UV light (the epoxy resin is literally plastic), so the "unpainted" wheels actually have to be covered by a clearcoat that blocks UV completely.

By the way, the reason why many carbon fiber options are more expensive if the part is "unpainted" with just the clear coat over the component is that there is a lot of work involved in getting the weave of the carbon fiber to line up properly and look nice. You don't want any junctions between two pieces of carbon fiber in the visible area of the part, which is a non-issue if the part will get painted anyway. Look at interior pictures of some racing cars with carbon monocoque for example, the part is made from carbon fiber just because it's lighter than steel or aluminium and it's unpainted to save weight, there the weave is all over the place, the individual pieces of the weave are lined up all crooked and the junctions are ugly, because there no one cares what it looks like as long as it saves weight.

Excellent review Doug. So I happened to surprise my wife with a 2022 C8 LT2 with the Z51 package. We both had corvettes when we first met in our twenties. So, it was a sentimental purchase. I've been a car enthusiast since I was a teen. Had muscle cars, then bought my first vette 1962 at 21. It was semi customized, and it was and still is beautiful. It was a great feel to own, just not a great drive. but a head turner! So, she took delivery of the C8 in March of 2022. She now has 11k miles on it (two long road trips attributed to half that mileage). She has no hesitation pushing the envelope with it. We do track it locally and even get it on a drag strip with some of the muscle cars. I am not a typical collector as we own them to use and really enjoy them. We've had several other corvettes, and the C8 is impressive as its unlike any of the previous generations. The mid engine dual 8 speed clutch and much more chevy implemented changed the game for the corvette. Now it's a far cry from the two Ferrari's. A 2020 F8 Tributo & 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB! You're also talking about a hugh sticker price difference. We have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon, but there is still room for another car. I always wanted a Z06, so I have one on order, but a 2023 delivery is questionable. The vettes are just in my blood, but lean towards the Italian super cars.

Temperatures controls are simple, top half of stack are driver's, bottom half are passenger's. Most reviewers make a big issue out of this feature! Very easy to use after driving the car. I have 2 C8s. This one is a 2LT coupe, and I took delivery of a Z06 2 weeks ago. I'm currently selling both of them. The 2LT has had 3 trans services and a trans replacement. The Z06 was throwing a low trans fluid pressure CEL code as they pulled it off the truck. They changed the valve body in it and it ran OK for 180 miles. CEL came back on. I was thinking my 2LT was just a factory F-up, but apparently my brand spanking new Z06 is doing the same damn thing. I'm flipping both. Someone else can deal with it. That aside, they sound nice and perform great when they work. They just don't work. My 2LT has been down for a total of 8 weeks over the past 20 weeks.

I am still amazing that Chevy built this car. Kudos to them for making an amazing car like this. The biggest issue I have with it is the service side of things. When you pay this much for a car, your expectations are a bit more (see Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus) but when you take this car into the dealer for service and you get the same experience as a person bringing in their Chevy Malibu....Is that a issue for potential buyers? Not sure.

@bradleylovej Жыл бұрын
I am not in the age or income brackets for these Corvettes, but as an American sports/muscle car enthusiast, I can say that a lot of Americans may actually like that. I know I would. Having to take it to a 'special' place to get serviced feels expensive and snooty. Part of the draw of a Corvette is that it isn't a Porsche or Ferrari. They've always felt attainable for regular people (even if this one isn't). Having a Corvette serviced next to a Malibu feels very American: straightforward, forthright, no bs. I guarantee you some guys would still want to work on these in their driveways. A lot of Chevy fans have the ethos of making simple, well-designed technology better and better, but still retain a connection to the past. There's a heritage there. For example, Chevy still puts overhead valve, pushrod V8's in most of their vehicles. They've been improving on the same design since the 50s. It's actually comforting to think that the techniques your father taught you on his '65 corvette will still work when you can afford your first one. Sorry for the long, rambling post.

As an owner of a similar car, I would highly argue against the term “bargain” for this car. It has been a year ever since I purchased this car brand new, and I have been to dealer service centers at least 10 times. The 120,000 “supercar” arrived with 7 miles on odometer and a warning regarding the gearbox, which then required the dealer to replace the entire gearbox. Next at 800 miles, the infotainment started going on and off, got it fixed at the dealer, and it started going on and off again, got it replaced at the dealer, the issue persists. And the cherry on top, the car was squeaking when I first got it, and when I took it to the dealer, turned out it is missing some bolts and screws!!! That is what happens when you buy a supercar from Chevy.

@jc_so_riyl2 жыл бұрын
Also it's not like his channel will die if he got rid of the Doug Score entirely, people watch his channel for car reviews not his personal opinions, hence why his Doug Score was controversial right from the start and viewers repeatedly hated it. You seemed to ignore most of Doug's comment sections in 2017-2021, the time where people mocked and hated his opinions
@ericrosen66262 жыл бұрын
@@jc_so_riyl "His scoring also didn't make sense since none of the vehicles he reviewed never got past 80/100." No, I think the reason none get passed 80 (actually 74) I think is more that some of the factors are contradictory. It is going to be virtually impossible to have a car that accelerates and handles well enough to get 10s AND is practical and comfortable and full-featured. And if such a car was cheap enough to get a good value score, it likely gave up some quality and loses points there. It's also the reason why you won't see scores for modern cars under around 30 -- any car so bad all-around just wouldn't get made because there wouldn't be a market for it. Maybe-- if we get a new battery technology that is cheaper and lighter we'll see some EV sedans make their way up to some higher scores? -- But that all said, just because the scale allows for scores in the range of 0-100, what reason is there that says we have to have cars that fall into those extremes? Maybe Doug's goal was for the scores to be like the baseball scouting scale where 50 is average and each 10 points above or below is a standard deviation? If so then statistically we'd just not expect to see any modern cars outside of roughly the 20-80 range.

Maybe it's not like that in real use, but it crossed my mind.

My C8's digital mirror took a bit of getting used to. When using a conventional mirror, one's eyes focus at infinity. The digital mirror is 2 feet or less from the eyes. With the HTC top down, the mirror must be used in the "mirror" mode. Then one's eyes go back to a normal "mirror". I can use the rear view mirror with the top up as a mirror but the view is extremely limited as the nacelles on either side and the spoiler inhibit the wide angles that the digital mirror provides.

You just have to be a bit more cautious. As noted above, the digital mirror takes a bit of getting used to. One's eyes are used to a mirror with focus on infinity. The "mirror" is not a mirror but a TV screen! I'm totally comfortable with both. The screen is GREAT when the top is up as it really gives a wide angle view of what's coming up behind you!
