Not knocking the 500 but I'd rather have the 350R for a few reasons. Manual yes, but also the gauges... I don't like the digital of the 500... I like the N/A as well. No fender air scoops on the 500 either. I'm glad it's different, but it is different in a way that I'd prefer the 350R.

The difference between the 350 and the 350R is minimal. Most of the changes are in the wheels, the spoiler, and the 'deleted equipment'. From a performance point of view, that's it. And, if you want a quick and dirty way to identify the 350 from the 350R - the Shelby badges on the front and back are not silver/black, they're red. (I know all this because I work at Flat Rock assembly... I drive a few of these every single day...)

I have a 2016 GT350 and the feeling is always the same, I cannot believe that I own this amazing piece of machinery. It only looks like a Mustang and seriously, that's where it ends too. Doug, your'e a car guy. How could you not mention that it's a flat-plane crank V8? That explains the great sound and the screaming 8200 RPM redline! That's the biggest part that makes the GT350 special. Firing order is similar to two I4's in a V bank. Outside of Ferrari, a flat plane crank V8 is super rare!

Doug, do more homework. It's extremely easy to tell the difference between the R and the base GT350 without looking at the wheels. The R has red pinstripes on the over-the-car stripes with a red rear badge, the base GT350 has white pinstripes on the stripes and a white badge on the back.

Mustangs are a fun car. Preowned 2015 - 2017s with low miles are easy to find for a good price. Add a cat back exhaust and some lowering springs and you are ready for a good time. If you want to get nuts, you can supercharge it but that's an expensive day at about $7,000. I love my 2016 GT.

The California Garage I recently found out that ford offers a 5.2 FPC crate engine called the Alluminator that has a better throttle body and a whole bunch of other modifications that make it even better and faster than the stock GT350 engine.

The Aluminator motor has been around for quite a few years now. It was used in the Roush Stage 3 Mustangs with the phase 3 package for the past 5 years or so now. Great engine!

Might go without saying, but the GT350R does have an additional cosmetic difference from the GT350 other than what you mention: red badging on the front and rear and red pinstripes around the racing stripes. But with a lot of GT350 owners installing R-styled front splitters, grills, and spoilers, plus doing the resonator delete, the red accents are about the only way to be sure what you're looking at (or hearing) from the outside.
