Easy is just brutal, Very easy is a good balance of challenge for people who are good at 2d platformers, so he'd probably have a good time at extremely easy. ...infinitely easy is just straight-up baby mode btw

And even by the time he beat the boss I'm still not convinced he ever realized the spikes are telegraphed a good second or so in advance.

Eh, I see where he's coming from. It's themed less after traditional 2D platforming that revolves around speed and navigation and themed more after frustration and patience and determination. There is no death. There is no enemy. There is nothing but obstacles. TECHNICALLY it is a 2D platformer, but only if you consider Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy a 2D platformer. It isn't. It's a rage-bait lolcow troll game, made of pre-existing assets slapped together and sold to people as "for the lols" and "an homage" and "about learning to relax". There is little to no game design. It is just "HOLD UP TO JUMP, HOLD LEFT OR RIGHT TO GO LEFT OR RIGHT. WOW YOU SUCK AT HOLDING UP. HAHA START OVER AT THE BEGINNING." It's not similar to mario or megaman, nor similar to wings of vi or even I wanna be the guy, it's not like celeste, it's not like super meat boy, it's not like shovel knight, rayman, hollow knight, pizza tower, cuphead, spelunky, kirby, sonic... it's a 2D platformer only in the very loose and technical sense of "It is 2D and there are platforms." It's more like a parkour game though.

Doug's rant on how he sees only a bunch of separate dots at about 1:55:00 makes me wonder... Does he have an ADHD diagnosis? His example is the exact opposite of how our perception works, we are patternseeking machines, using pixels and vectors to form an image and predict its contents. Having such difficulty with that could be a symptom of a disorder. More prevalent in Autism, but similar difficulties happen in ADHD. His sleeping problems, doing much better on a low carb diet and occasional "I can not remember doing this" or asking "does anyone remember X" when he still has it in a separate tab are also classic "oh, so that's why" things with ADHD...

Hollow Knight didn't "change my life trajectory" or anything. But it became a benchmark for atmosphere, exploration, and 2D combat for me. So you could say it changed my views on gaming, which is a big thing in my life. The same way Dark Souls did after I played that for the first time. So I do really love Hollow Knight as it is to this day one of the top 3 experiences I've had with a game. And I do love getting the opportunity to talk about it with another fan, or to get someone new into it. But I get not liking metroidvanias. I actually hate Metroidvanias too. Hollow Knight may be the single metroidvania I've ever liked. There was something about it that made me feel like it elevated itself above its genre.
