I always look forward to that notification alert that Doug Linker has just posted a video. Doug, you have all of the other carvers beat, at least in my mind you do. Tremendous artistic talent, great teacher, great carver, and just a joy to watch. Thank you for going to the trouble of making these great tutorial videos. One more thing, you could take a small #11 sweep about 2 or 3 mm and make some faint teeth mark lines, that are always present in apples bitten into.

Doug, I used a real stem from a real apple instead of doweling. (I didn't have any doweling handy). Coated it with wood glue to keep it firm, let it dry and then glued it into the apple.

Good morning Doug. I am just a beginner but tried because I had some stuff going on and watching and trying took my mind off of things! Thank you for that! I have only made a few but would like to make the apple for my oldest daughter as she is a teacher and thought it would be cool is all-I do not own a gouge though-is there another way I can do this without buying a tool for guessing around$30? Let me know please. Thank you again for helping me take my mind off of things as I try to make something! Have a good day
@fouroakscrafts72402 жыл бұрын
Thanks Doug, this is a fun project! Do you still like using the antiquing finish, but I guess that might look better if using solid paint. I like the stained look you get with these apples and the finish you used does give the apple a yellowish hue like a real apple. Thanks for putting this together.

Nice video, how would you add a worm coming out of it?
@Derginator2 жыл бұрын
One could use a pink dowel for a worm in a “bite”
@SewWhittle2 жыл бұрын
I would love to learn how to carve that first Apple you showed that was entirely chewed. 😮. Also, I started carving these and when I get to the point of adding the “chew”marks, it just cuts the wood away with the grain, instead of leaving “bite” marks. Any suggestions?

Hey Doug, do you have any suggestions for larger carving tools that are quality but maybe not so pricey? I am looking to carve larger things but only have Helvie knives, and Pfeil palm gouges/V-tools. I'd like to get some larger gouges/V-tools that you need a mallet to use. Any suggestions without breaking the bank? I know you get what you pay for but just wanted to ask what you thought. Thanks Doug!
