As far as weather stripping goes if anyone ever replaces it on an early car.... I recommend buying the stripping for the late 90s C4’s. It’s a rubber base not a foam so it lasts way longer and stays looking good longer.

I know this video is old now. However, as a new c4 owner I'm scouring everything I can find. My brother bought a 1 owner 1996 LT4 with Z51 suspension from the estate of a gentleman who passed from covid. It had 64,000 miles on it. After a few years, it's been in his garage disassembled while he was doing quality of life maintenance. As far as I know for a fact, optispark was replaced with the torqhead conversion. Including coil pack and ECU. New water pump, changed the headlight gears to brass, slotted new brake rotors and ceramic pads and new clutch and throwout bearing. I'm sure there are more but I don't recall. All I had to do was buy some new window seals and an AC compressor. It's torch red and has chrome 5 star rims sitting in BF Goodrich T/A tires. I have 67,500 miles on her now. Now, the only reason my brother sold it to me was because he bought a 2024 stingray vette and needed the garage space. Score of a lifetime.

Doulop, I watched a lot of videos before deciding I wanted a C4 - including yours. You did have a part in me deciding to get one: a 1996 LT1 automatic whose name is "Colette". I LOVE this car, it IS so much fun to drive - I drive it everywhere, including at night and in the rain. I got it in November of 2023 and I've put 6k miles on it, taken it for long drives, and like I said, use it almost daily. It was the best decision I've ever made - thanks for helping me with that decision. BTW, I put in a modern double-din radio with bluetooth and Android Auto (also Carplay) and it made a huge difference in my enjoyment of the car. If you drive it a lot, the lack of modern car features can be disappointing and the modern radio helps with that. I used wire and installation adapters and didn't have to cut a single thing - I could go back to stock at any time if I wanted to, which I don't.

On the subject of shocks: KYB 'Gas-Adjust' shocks are budget Bilstein-type units. Both are monotube, high-pressure designs with reactive valving, meaning they change resistance in response to the forces applied. I have used KYBs on several vehicles, and have also used Bilsteins on several. They differ in some details of course. I'm pretty confident Bilsteins will maintain seal integrity and consistent performance over a longer timespan, but they usually cost about four times as much, and just how much longer I can't say because I've never had a problem with either brand. My '88 Base-suspension C4 has KYBs, as does my big Lincoln TC. They are softer than Bilstein 'Sport' or 'Heavy Duty' shocks, which differ in free length only; both have the same valving. KYBs are more like Bilstein's 'Standard' version. For my Corvette, they feel compliant but well-controlled. For my big heavy Lincoln, they feel appropriately soft. In my experience, Bilstein Sport / HD shocks are uncomfortably stiff and jarring for road use. But for Z51 equipped C4s, they should match-up well with the much stiffer springs. For base-suspension cars, I think most owners will prefer KYBs or Standard Bilsteins. If I were to go for something beyond KYBs, I'd be inclined to buy Ohlins or something comparable. They are VERY expensive, but offer significantly better performance, more features, and higher quality than even the Bilsteins.

Nice videos, man. I grew up just south of Erie. I have a 1993 Ruby (40th Anniversary) that was my dad's when he passed. We pulled it out of the barn, and our family mechanic hauled it to the shop. It started without issue (having sat for years). This was in 2011, and I'm still driving the beast. I've had to have the computer refloated, tires (twice), an alternator, some wiring issues, and the same tach issues as you. Beyond that it's very a reliable car. And fun to drive. With the steering column, people lean on them to get in and out. Once I found out about that I stopped doing it but mine's it's on the list. I also have to trouble-shoot the primary fan. Mine started acting like yours last fall. This is the second time that's come up. The difference is that I think mine has the relay bypassed after the first time, and is hooked to an analogue sensor on the block. So I have to run that down. I have to do the headlight motors, and the hatch gasket next. And get the back brakes done--or so the fellow who put tires on in November told me. If you're interested, take a look at www.comvette.com/ for a radio option. He's working on something for the earlier C4s and I've done some adaptations to make it look more like our dash. And to fit the screen into the space, another difference between the early and late C4s. I've stopped on it right now as there's not really a place to put the electronics. I'm considering the space behind the current Bosch system, or the compartments in the back. Hit C4Pi.echo4golf.com for the stuff that I'm working on. It needs updated but it's a cool notion.

I understand the main reason why Corvette steering wheels get loose and possibly bent is too many drivers don’t know how to properly get in or out of the Corvette correctly. What they end up doing is holding onto the steering wheel and pushing their bodyweight up to get out of the car and therefore overtime bending the pins and brackets on the steering wheel. Properly know how to get in and out of the Corvette by sitting Sidewayz and sliding into the seat and not holding onto the steering wheel will prevent the steering wheel from being damaged. The steering wheel is not designed to hold the weight of someone pushing on it with their bodyweight. That’s probably what happened with the previous owner.

I just found a 84' c4 with an automatic trans. The one upgrade they did was a set of C6 5spoke chrome wheels. They make the car look way better than the original rims. I had an 86 C4 with stock rims and it had that 80's vibe which made the car look generic. But checking out your black ride with those later model chrome rims make it look a lot newer than a C4. I also like the cat back system they put on the 84, very aggressive sounding with very little drone on the hiway. I traded a 1996 Thunderbird v6 auto with 23k miles on it for the 94'Vette, very clean ride...but I think it was more than a fair trade. Hi mate, I've been thinking about Corvette for 2-3 years. It's really hard to decide, because It will be my daily car. 6 months ago I bought Audi A3 2015, it's a great car however I don't fell it's proper car for me... This car just doesn't have a soul. Maybe I should have 2 cars. Don't know There are two obstacles in my way: 1) Weather in Poland could be... hm different? It migbt be unproper word, however one day it's rainy, next day sunny. In January we have 9°C (48F) and in April it could be even -5°C when it should be around 20°C (68F) 2) Fuel is really expensive in Poland 😀 I've been watching your channel for a long time and I still haven't made a decision. I hope you're going to understand my English 😀 Cheers buddy!

Should just keep the audi. Since you are in Europe. Finding parts for an American car in Europe would be a pain. And I drive my vette as a daily driver and run it hard, so I get 14 miles to the gallon. But then again gas here is only like 2 something a gallon

Hi Frank, I have thought about getting antique plates for quite some time. The reason your car "feels" like it has more torque than the C5 (note: it doesn't, literally not anywhere in the rev range if you compare stock for stock dynos) is because of your blown shocks. Cars with blown shocks rock you back way harder and give the illusion of more acceleration as once the chassis rocks back then gravity is assisting the sensation of acceleration, not to mention the drama of rocking back makes the car feel more powerful. One of the fastest feeling vehicles I've ever driven was a lifted diesel truck with soft off road suspension and I thought I was blasting off to the moon and doing 100 mph and looked down and I was doing 35. So, maybe you don't want to replace the shocks after all, or at least not with firm ones, it might feel less fun once you clamp it back down with new shocks. After all, Mazda deliberately underdamped the ND Miata to make it more fun at sensible speeds. Things that make a car fast around a race track can often make them less fun on the street.
@Doulop2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for your comment. I have replaced my shocks since this video and the torque feels exactly the same. The L98 engine is known by a lot Chevy fans to be a Torque monster. They are very torquey (if that’s a word) engines. I 100% agree that the softer suspension gives that feeling but didn’t make a difference at all with mine.
@nunyabusiness8962 жыл бұрын
@@Doulop Comparing the dynos there might be a slight edge to the L98 for the first couple thousand RPM, but really shouldn't be enough to feel. It would make for a good video to line up your C4 and his C5 (assuming both are near stock power/tune and manuals) and idle out to 5 mph (to eliminate clutch slip and driver differences) and do a 3 honk roll race to see which car pulls ahead. Eventually the C5 will overtake and pull away because there's an extra 100+ whp once you rev it out, but would be interesting to see if the L98 C4 really does launch harder or if it's a placebo effect. I bet you'd get a ton of views as people love seeing generation comparisons between cars. Make sure to do at least 2-3 pulls to rule out reaction time, too.
@Doulop2 жыл бұрын
I would love to do this with him. Not sure how he would feel about a road race, though. We will see. Thanks again!

If you were planning on driving it in the snow, if you have snow where you live, it would not be a good car to only have that. If you’re looking to have a car that is fun and easy to get in and out of since you were young, I would say go for it. As for insurance, the best thing to do would be to call your insurance company and give them the year make and model of a Corvette you were looking at and see what they say. You guys are both young so it would definitely be higher than someone my age but it might not be as bad as you expect. Good luck!

Hi Ivan, I sat the GoPro on the ground right before the takeoff and had a friend pick it up once I was out of sight. For the drive-over, I wire tied the GoPro to a heavy box of screws so it wouldn’t blow over when I went by at high speed. Did you enjoy it? Take care. Have a great weekend!

Over the years, I would have rather seen you attack the interior physical problems of the C-4 rather than her exterior coat. being mostly fiberglass and aluminum.. I was never concerned with her exterior going bad. How did you cope with the little things.. like the brembo shocks? I don't know for sure if they are working or not. I would like to see a video about testing the twisters.

Not sure what you mean by how did I cope? What are twisters?

@@Doulop I apologize for being vague. The Brembo shocks are controlled by electric motors that twist something on top of them to adjust for the three settings.. normal sport and competition. At least MY 91 does. It is hard to tell the difference between the modes and I am not entirely sure that they are working like factory. I CAN tell you this.. that with the "normal" mode.. I can pass over speed bumps without spilling my drink. Very surprising for a 32 year old car!
