Bought this album the day it came out in Toronto. Had read a few things in the music mags back then about Phil and a few Louisiana buddies making an album. Put it in my Technics CD player with Sansui receiver and speakers. 3 playthroughs and 10 Canadian beers later I could not stop grinning, What a landmark album.....

It's crazy to think that Phil was at the top of the game with Pantera, then came out with this (with Pepper, Kirk, Jimmy, and Todd, to be fair to their music prowess as well) and then came out with such vulnerable vocals and honest feelings in Down. Not that Pantera had none of those things, but Down was much more stripped down than Pantera, obviously, and it showed another side of Phil.
@johnwirk4 жыл бұрын
You have tapped into something that pulls at my curiosity daily and not just with "Phil". Phil is no doubt your run of the mill "alpha male" as demonstrated by his everyday life and antics. What sets him apart is the fact that he has a drive for musical dominance if you will, unlike the warrior who persues physical. Combine that with a need for job security in which you never know if the band will fail and the money stops. Phil is a leader, maybe not the best but a leader no doubt and thats why he is where he is before and aft.

@ vielmaleo1970. So to try to answer your specific question I did a test. I took all the other versions online, including some just ripped from a CD, and ran them through an amplifier to a pair of very high end in ear monitors. The others, every one of them, produced terrible distortion on the replay. This version? Literally, crystal clear. Enough was said regarding the video quality. Thanks again!
