Downloading a Recorded Clip from a Kasa Camera

Downloading a clip from your cloud-based security camera can be confusing. Especially when there is more than one way to store and retrieve clips. This video will help navigate this process on your Kasa Camera

Not being able to download the manual 24/7 saves feels dumb to me. I have to sit and wait and "record" each clip or get on a ladder and get out the memory card and then transfer it to pc manually. Why on earth is there not a download option for sd card saves?

This is because the recordings are in a constant stream. The "clips" below the timeline are just callouts of where motion or AI detection took place. This is the reason you have to record each individual call-out as a separate recording. Otherwise, you would be attempting to download one recording which could be hundreds of GBs.

@@shinebenhavin9419 Its because the recording on a MicroSD card is a continuous stream. The "recordings" you see below the timeline are just callouts where motion or activity is detected. They are not separate recordings. Cloud recordings however are as they are only triggered by motion or activity.

It would be nice if Method 1 didn't stop itself. What should I do when I want a ten-minute recording instead of six? I press record, and it records for a while. I DON'T press stop, but it stops.

i cannot figure out how to play back videos from the SD card to my phone while not home, shows no saved videos in the app.. Does 24/7 recording need to be activated even if i do not want it continuously recording and just want motion detected recording?

Yes 24/7 recording is required when using an SD card. If 24/7 is not enabled the SD card is not being used.

How do I access videos that’s over 30days old and how do I open the clips that says it’s no longer stored with Kasa but I can see the screenshot

It sounds like you are referring to Cloud stored clips. The answer is you can't. I thumbnail will still appear in the app, as an indication that something was detected then but the clip has been removed from the server and is not accessible after 30 days.

I can only hear audio when viewing from the phone. When i download to a hard disk. No audio. How can download audio also?

The audio should be there. When you are viewing the file downloaded from the memory card make sure you are looking at the .MP4 and that the volume on the viewer is enabled. I have noticed that often when viewing a clip on a view like media player that the play mutes the volume.

@@TPLINKUS I'm running into the same issue using the Android Kasa app. I've tried two different Android apps to view, then emailed the clip and played on PC and still no audio.

What size memory card would be best for this device?

32 GB is probably sufficient. But if you want to record at highest quality, and if you want to access recordings a week later, you'll need something bigger.

How do you clear the memory card of videos stored on the camera?

Well, the memory card will do that automatically but you can also reformat the card to clear the memory completely.

A damaged recording is an unrecoverable recording. There is no to fix such an error.

You would need to make sure notifications are enabled on the camera as well as for the app in your phone's settings. If they are then please contact support for assistance.

Why do we have to watch the entire clip to save it? This is counter productive. It is easier to trim it then have to watch it every time. Please fix this!

Recordings are actually on a timeline and the clip is just a section of the timeline where motion was detected. So while it is presented to you as a separate recording its not actually and we are providing it to you as just that motion Detection

There really is no way to do that. You can download individual clips that are caught through the motion tracking. To download large swaths of content you would have to insert the memory card into a memory card reader and copy the entire datastream on to you PC and then look for the content you are looking to review. Though without some sort of video editor cutting just 8 hours of content might be difficult.

Reformatting a SD Card will in effect delete all previous recordings. They may still show in time line from previous days but will not be viewable.
