Another tip when mapping planets if to fire the probe to the back side(s) first, since it has the longest travel time, horizon probes next, and the probe straight ahead last, as it has the shortest travel time.

A good tip is to scan gas giants first in FSS, most objects tend to orbit around gas giants, and in my experience trying to click a target area of another body just doesn't work until the parent gas giant is scanned.
@BRBMrSoul2 жыл бұрын
Noticed, mainly in the bubble, but helps with looking for mission signals etc too, my theory is larger the body more it reveals by proxy(nearby) when scan it, whereas not even sure if a icy body will help reveal asteroids nearby etc
@812amack2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but a good tip as well as moving away from the star climb or descend out of the orbital plane this will ensure that no bodies are obscured by the star.

Explorer here I spent hundreds of hours exploring and while I didn't learn anything new except how useful can Orrery view actually be. I used it ocasionally to look how a system looks like but I never thought of zooming in on a planet there to get an idea how big the star appears, how close is it to another moon etc. So big thanks!

15:30 if you can’t or don’t want to bind it you can scroll to the bottom of the targets list the next stop in your route is there

5:38 that is a water world! you can tell by the markings, the 2 rows of 3 arrows. those markings are unique for each body, and they match to the ones that orbit around your retical when you are looking near a body and that one is without a doubt a water world. though as you can see the marking is bugged, which can be fixed by sliding far enough away for the markings to disappear then slide back

I got accidentally left in Colonia by my carrier taxi that was 5000ly away by the time I realized what happened. Luckily I was in my phantom and Only had to jump 88 times to catch up. Of those 88 jumps, 12 of them were systems that no one had scanned before.

As a point of interest, when you're getting some distance from the star, it's best to fly UP relative to the plane of the orbits, so that there's less chance something will still be obscured by the star.
@STNeish2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and for sending probes to the surface, I usually visualize the target points like a dice. For example, if the maximum probes is 4, I put the probes where the points on a 4 sided die would be. If it's 6, then it's a 6 sided die.

middle mouse click shows the rear of a planet in the surface scanner, go out till it says missed, then come back in till it clears and fire.
@Jenna_Talia2 жыл бұрын
I tend to go a bit farther in, I notice that firing the moment it clears tends to overshoot and falls on the bottom side of the planet leaving the top empty.

High metal content worlds even non-terraformables will still net you 150,000 or so per planet. Def worth scanning. The terraformable ones are a def go, but the HMC worlds are worth searching as well. The only ones that are pointless are the RICE planets (Rock, rocky ice, ice planets). Skip all those. ED Scout is also a good thing to have along so you can see the true value of the planets before you go to them. I wish you had made mention of that.
@CruelViper882 жыл бұрын
yeah...I'm to much of a perfectionist, so I would scan & probe all planets & moons regardless of what they are...in any system I enter. Unless the system is already fully scanned/mapped...then I'd only pick the high value targets.

In so many of these "guides" I keep hearing the term "honk"...without ever having heard anyone explain what that means, how it's done, what does it do for you, what gear is needed, etc. Gotta be honest, despite all the plethora of guides, tutorials, etc, there's still a information gap out there for truly new players. This honk thing is just one example. I usually leave a guide video with more questions than the thing answered.
@alasdairvfr Жыл бұрын
Honk is to use discovery scanner. Every ship has one + FSS but you need to buy DSS. To honk, map the discovery scanner to a fire group and hold down the fire button for like 6-8 seconds, it will make a truck honking sound and tell you how many planets/stars are in the system

Has there been any headway in search of Raxxla, or anything lore related for that matter? The 'knowledge' is so scattered that I simply don't have the time to research.
