All cities across the USA should put up white warm string lights .. it helps the mood / mental health of people and helps deter crime … However no one is safe walking around downtown LA. And prob shouldn’t

DTLA gets pretty sketchy at night.
@ivanp24909 ай бұрын
As a resident, this is simple but great step. When I go to other cities I see similar issues (e.g homeless, tagging, sketchy areas) but always offer a lively area to hangout at. DTLA offers little to nothing.

I think lights make it feel more festive feel.

Agreed, downtown Seattle has lights like this around South Lake Union. Makes the neighborhood feel less dull at night.
@rickeykoga23129 ай бұрын
You can make it feel more festive but its hard to appreciate that when you also get the feeling of a stab wound from a drugged-out homeless vagrant 🤷♂️ The lack of consequences for petty crimes attracts criminals because its easy money. The criminals commit crimes on innocent citizens for various reason. Innocent citizens stay away from areas that have any sort of RISK. Until LA deals with where the RISK originates from, its doomed to fail.

When street lamps were first introduced, there was some hope it would end all crime. Oh well ...
Yes ....just ignore the homeless and criminals. Look at the pretty lights instead.

Do you think lights will change anything?
@christopherstone69629 ай бұрын
Crime has gotten worse but it's the homeless that really keeps shoppers away. No one wants to walk through tents and bums begging harassing for change and the random crazy who tries to kill you for no reason. The state needs to build 4 massive homeless facilities (LA, SF, San Diego and Sacramento) in the middle of nowhere and ship the homeless there. Concentrate all the services they need, pay professionals very well to treat them, and those who prove they can re-integrate back into society can move back into cities.

Some of you are so stupid. There are no homeless encampments in that area. I’m sure it’s safer and prettier than the area you live.

If they want foot traffic, they need to close down the area to motor vehicles. Cars drive pedestrians away. Everyone hates cars. Obliterate the roads if you want high business activity.
