Recipe Tips:
If using a darker pan, reduce temperature 25F (4C) and bake an additional 5 - 10 minutes to prevent over browning.
Do not use cooking spray on nonstick coated surfaces.
Using a high quality vanilla will make the difference with this cake recipe.

My granny would have loved this recipe. Papaw loved angelfood cake and granny said the worst part of making one was trying to find ways to use up a dozen egg yokes! 😁

Right?!? This is where this recipe came from, actually. Trying to figure out what to do with a dozen egg yolks all at once. No one wants to roll out 12 cups of homemade noodles. 😅

@@Jacksonsjob macaroni is the only pasta I ever remember my grandparents eating. Macaroni salad or macaroni & cheese. Oh and she sometimes added its to vegetable soup especially if it was short on meat. I don't remember them ever eating anything with a tomato sauce i.e. spaghetti, lasagna nor fettuccine or ravioli...🤔

We ate either homemade noodles that are super thick or macaroni with stewed tomatoes. 😳😬 And they cooked it so long it straightened out the elbow. I was in my teens before I first ate and fell in love with Italian food.

@@Jacksonsjob l love macaroni and stewed tomatoes! My grandparents never ate it but my best friend's family ate it all then time. They called it, macaronis and tamaters. At their house, I first heard the words poke and carry used in a way I had never heard before moving down the road from them. "They carried me to the store and I got 3 pokes of groceries." You don't hear that anymore. I kind of miss it. 😊

Poke meant sallet greens and bags growing up for us, too. We said maters as it was too much work to say tomater. 🤣 Maters 🍅🍅🍅taters 🥔🥔🥔 and unyuns. 🧅🧅🧅 And greens was pretty much anything leafy from lettuce to spinach. 😂

If I had to guess, I would say 3 tablespoons. It's safe this can be made with gluten-free flour and dairy-free butter. Still moist and delicious the next day.

I’m going to try this in a few days. I plan to make some macarons and wanted to use up a bunch of egg yolks, so this will be perfect. Thanks so much for the amount! I should start putting in the recipes dairy-free butter and margarines work well. I personally don’t eat butter and always substitute when I’m planning to eat something I bake.

My mother made sticky icing a lot growing up. But I never knew what to do with the egg yokes. 😂 Strawberries makes an amazing topping…or in the middle part is even better.

Haha, same here! This cake is really rich but most people seem to enjoy it, especially those that are a fan of yellow cake. I know the icing you are speaking of that your mom would make. It's wonderful! Now I want this cake with your mom's recipe and strawberries! 😆
