Sean deserves an Oscar..his job on `a slave` is the best ive seen for ages. Every single frames a work of blue/red perfection and storytelling.

What I love is how honestly he shot 12 years. There was no artificial dark lighting or filters to hammer it over our heads. It's a bright, beautiful looking movie about an incredibly dark, disgusting subject.

Yet another amazing interview. Steve doesn't seem to suffer fools easily and it's a testament to the quality of your questions that he seems so at ease talking to you.

at 11:50, the guy operating the camera for this interview got so inspired by listening to these great filmmakers that he started expressing his internal artistic voice.

How does the interviewer have the nerve to say 12 Years a Slave is not about race when it clearly is. Its not only about race, but race most certainly is the main component of the movie.
@dp3011 жыл бұрын
I think the film is about more than just race. I think it is about how humans treat each other and mislead themselves and struggle in a lot of areas. I believe I say, when posing the question, that obviously race is at the center of the film.
@paulatreides12310 жыл бұрын
It's also a contemporary problem with other races making cinema or just art in general. It's instantly perceived as the piece being about race, and not taken as possessing other merit or themes. I'm glad Mcqueen has been consistent with dismissing that the film is only about race.

Well it is, and isn't about race. On a shallow level, it is about race, on a deeper level it's about humans in general, and how we have the ability to dehumanize people for our own gain.

I seriously do not understand. This channel gathers at most, 3,000 views per video. And it seriously amazing content. You pull the best and most talented people from the film industry, and give great interviews. Nope. Never will understand. Any why is your Kickstarter not blowing up?!

In order to create a real re-enactment of the facts, you have to serve, the real justice to the word. Powerful movie, may Allah Swt bless Solomon Northup for his trials.

I wish the interviewer asked more practical questions about their way of working instead of "how does it feel" questions and questions of categorization. Such a wasted opportunity with all the great people he gets to speak with.

You really need to get a publicist, or someone that knows how to do SEO and get some promotional magic going for this channel. Your content is always second to none, and the questions you ask are so insightful. As a young student of the art, what I get out of this channel is of ungraspable value. Getting to see how my favorite directors, actors, cinematographers work on their projects and what their view of the industry is. Get your shit together and get more people seeing this.

Has the economic structure that supported slavery been taken away, really? The Western world still exploits people for industry, we just do it remotely now. This was a fantastic interview. I wonder if McQueen will ever make a film with slightly lighter subject matter.

He is an obnoxious and pretentious director who used to be a far better visual artist . He keeps invading Us with tale of perversion and violence . Tales we are told to be artistic and inspiring but just represent the contorted mind of people receiving pleasure by watching the tormented lives of others . This is not cinema , it's a sick mind at work gathering followers in his sickness
@jackriver199910 жыл бұрын
McQueen has made a modern classic with 12YAS. He is shining a light on the worst excesses of humanity, but I thought it was a well-executed movie as well, top-notch acting, set and costume design, screenplay. If you can't stomach watching his films, I suggest you stop watching them, rather than bellyaching about what is cinema and what isn't cinema. I don't want sugar-coated condescending cinema treating me like a child, maybe you do.
