When it comes to image quality, it should be mentioned that Sony *still* uses their super weird raw compression on their APS-C cameras that shows artifacts on contrasting edges when shadows and highlights are pushed. This is not just a test chart issue - I have seen it in real life photos I took with Sony cameras, where the edges of tree trunks and pant legs get all pixelated where other raw images might just show a bit of halo-ing.
@Kai-P3 жыл бұрын
True, but probably at least as important that they use different ISO standards. Sony ISO 6400 is not the same as Fuji ISO 6400, so comparing it without looking at exposure is always flawed.

About a year and a half ago I was in the market for my first 'real' camera. Got super close to buying an a6400 that I found at a banger price but I wanted to hold the camera in my hand first before dropping the money. Went to a local store to see if they have any on display and found an a6100. I have to say I was not a fan of the way it looked and felt in person. Bought an X-S10 a few weeks later instead even though it cost me a few hundreds more than the a6400 would have. No regrets, love this camera. Ultimately it comes down to what you want out of your camera. The unlimited recording time on the Sony for example is an awesome feature, but I barely ever shoot video so it's not very important to me. I will admit thought I do wish the Fuji had at least comparable face tracking to the Sony. Sometimes it can be a real pain to use.
@aaronhyde55092 жыл бұрын
I just so happen to be comparing both in 2022 for vlogging/video webinars, years after the A6400 came out (and nearly a year after this original post), as I'm going to be doing 'stable' (mounted) videos and webinars, but also want a camera I can go out and shoot with. I can get a similar A6400 package right now for a few hundred less. Thanks, this is one of the best tech reviews I've seen. I got more out of this than either of these as a single product review... still don't know which to buy though :) I like the A6400's autofocus and unlimited recording as I may be making some videos over 30 minutes- though guess I could just record to my computer with X-S10?

IBIS really deserves its own category. Having IBIS at this price point is really impressive. And I say that as a former A6400 owner. Honestly this is a tough choice. The X-S10 has IBIS and better handling, while the Sony has magic autofocus and weather-sealing. As a left-eyed person I would choose against the rangefinder, but for righties it's a tossup.

@peoplez1293 жыл бұрын
Xtrans is a gimmick. Offers no advantage over bayer, and only disadvantages. Any detail that falls within those 2x2 blocks of green pixels, is basically invisible to the sensor. I am currently looking for a camera to use for travel and as a second body for events. As a camera, I prefer the XS-10, but at times I need my second body to shoot event videos on a tripod, and then the 30 minutes recording limit on the Fuji is a deal breaker. KZbin put this in my suggested list for no apparent reason, but it has been over a year since I saw it before, so I decided to watch it again. In general "it stands up well" over time. I did realize that it was missing some points that I felt were important for video. The Sony Picture Profiles are particularly useful for integrating the a6400 into a Semi-Pro/Pro video environment. This is especially true for people who work with Sony's real video cameras (FX6 and above) but to a lesser extent with other "real video" cameras. Though on the other hand, the Picture Profiles on the a6400 are limited to 8-bit implementations, which makes them less useful than they might be. And that, I think is what you missed for the Fuji. If I remember correctly, it has 10-bit out the HDMI port, which is also a big deal for integrating into a Semi-Pro/Pro environment. And these environments are huge for video. Still photographers can work solo, but in the video world, "successful" Pro work is general done in groups. Anyway, it was fun to see it again. I should add that for 4K video, I now use a Sony a6400, a Lumix G85 and a Sony FDR-AX53.

It feels weird talking about minor differences between APS-C bodies. None of it is enough to switch lens ecosystems. Are Fuji lenses really good enough to call it a tie? My favorite lens is the $400 Sigma 16mm f/1.4, and Fuji's 16mm f/1.4 is $999. I guess I feel like the Fuji is better for non-nerds, but those aren't the people watching DPReview videos 😄

Sony has been the the best for autofocus, who doesn’t know ?, but in a simple way we get the best result and client satisfaction with Fuji and for cinematic feel with no doubt lumix sh1 still on the top list! We know that sh1 have Ben standard for Netflix production. Cheers!🍻
