@GhostShelter Canon, Sony, and Nikon all have full frame cameras that sit very close to their APSC. Fuji on the other hand only has APCS and medium format, which is sits far above apsc. The result is Canon, Sony, Nikon APSC cameras all got neutered in some way so that they don't eat into the FF market. Whereas Fuji can afford to give you the best of the best (of APSC) without eating their medium format line.
@krollpeter3 жыл бұрын
@@zzMigMitzz Full frame is still better. It has sharper fine detail and more definition in dark tones that overall gives images a depth and vivid appearance, that can't be reached by smaller formats. But for that wow-effect more sensor is what does it.
@Guizmopeg3 жыл бұрын
In a marketing sense that was a brilliant idea because beginner photographers have their mind all set up on buying APS-C, so that's how Fuji got at the top of the overall camera market shares. But on a rational level this decision makes no sense at all. You can get almost any entry to mid-level full frame camera for the same price as the X-T4. Just like Peter Kroll said before me, the FF will always have the upper hand in IQ, and most of the entry to mid-level FF cameras have (at least) an edge over any APS-C, even X series, in every category. Dropping that much money on a crop sensor makes no sense at all, no matter how good the brand APS-C lenses are.

Thanks for this very helpful review. As a Sony APSC person, first the A6000 and now owner of the A6600, this has been my go to camera for great shots when I travel internationally. I love the small lens sizes for travel, and how little I have to pay for lenses that are small and compact, since there are so many third-party options in the sony Emount system. I don't know if Fuji's XT4 allows for so many third party options. I cannot argue with the conclusion that the Fuji XT4 is the best camera. However, the feel of the Fuji is bulky in my hands and heavy. I love the slender, low profile of the Sony camera and find that it is incredibly light and comfortable to hold after hours of shooting and walking. The big downfall of the Sony camera is it's very poor ibis compared to other cameras. We are moving toward cameras becoming very steady, but Sony lags considerably behind others in this area. Ultimately, I may end up going with the fuji system, but not for the foreseeable future.

My friend and I went with one of them through the forest, to the highest point, sharp corner spot and the guy dropped his D6 2 hours in and couldn't walk back to the car because the stage/race was starting in less than 1 hour, so he borrowed my friends brand new Z50, that he just bought two days earlier... And man... Let me tell you... The pictures he took with that $800 camera almost made me want to sell my XT-4 and all my camera gear, quit photography for good and then question all my life choices. The fuji and Nikon APSC cameras are "Sonys in Disguise" in the sense that they use Sony sensors. The most significant differentiators are price - and more importantly - lens selection as otherwise you are gonna get pretty much the exact same picture quality. The Sony and the Fuji have a much better selection of 1st and 3rd party lens options for their mount systems. The Nikon is pretty terrible by comparison - virtually none of the big lens manufacturers have bothered to support the Z mount, with barely a handful manual lenses from "low end" Chinese brands being available. This is a major dealbreaker. For the APSC format, across all manufacturers, there are major gaps in all 1st party lens options that are filled by 3rd party lens - Sigma in particular does a great job for completing the prime lens lineup.
@nogerboher52662 жыл бұрын
@@JimIBobIJones Your first paragraph is false - it’s a common misconception, it’s actually not a Sony sensor - it’s only manufactured by Sony, the design and engineering of the sensor is done by the companies who have production(manufacturing) contracts with Sony, aka. Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji, DJI and others… Sony only gets the patented blueprints under a strict contract and manufactures their sensors for them at a cheaper cost. Most camera manufacturers have a contract with Sony because Sony has the biggest factory (production) chains out of any other manufacturer in the business, as well as the largest amount of CNC machines for the job - all meaning faster and larger production at a lower cost. And it’s not just camera manufacturers who do this, everyone does this - for example, one of the newer diesel engines in the newer Mercedes A and E class, was manufactured by Renault and VW. Same with BMW, Peugeot, entire VW group and others. Another example; Apples “Made in California” products actually manufacture over 60% of their parts and hardware in Taiwans, Chinas and Thailands factories. Then, another example, Nvidia and AMD both use the exact same factory in China for production of some of their GPU parts. So on and so forth… You can do the same. You can engineer and design an entire house and then have someone else build it for you - and you can do that with anything, the house was just an example. Outsourcing is way more common than you think and allows businesses/manufacturers to drastically lower their production costs.

I can't believe they gave the lowest ranking for image quality for the Z50, just because the sensor is 20MP? It has the best Dynamic range out of all of them, Has high ISO as well since it is a BSI CMOS sensor, and can take 11FPS, much better than the others. And of course the most pleasing RAW files are from Nikon because they have great colors. Just for lack of IBIS, that does not justify a 4th place. I dumped my FUJI X-T20 for the Z50 even though the sensor gave 24MP because I didn't find a huge difference between 20 and 24MP.

I got Nikon Z50 with Nikkor 16-50mm and Nikkor 50-250mm. For me, as enthusiast photographer (I dont earn money from photography, it is a hobby and not a real job). For me this camera is all I need for the moment. I found it with a discount, was aprox 820 USD with the Nikkor 16-50mm. I like it a lot, I think it is a very good value for money. Yes, I could find something better, but more expensive. I didn't want to pay extra for few better things, for now it satisfies my needs. Very light camera, event with the Nikkor 50-250 lens, perfect for traveling. Yes, it has no IBIS, but if you concentrate a little, you can get great shot in low light. I mean I have shots of waterfalls with the shutter speed at 1/5s handheld and it is perfect, it is a quite long exposure shot. The stabilization of the 16-50 lens is very good. I almost feel like the fuji 4 is cheating... It's their huge professional top of the line camera that they use to compete with the other companies' full frame offerings and it's really in a different league. It's bulky, it's much more expensive... By the time you're considering the xt4, you're starting to consider the full frames from the other companies. So yes, it's the best apsc, but only because they don't have a full frame. Realistically, someone looking at the other offerings would be considering the xt30 or an x-e4 rangefinder... And you will find that they have most of the issues that the other ones had as the company tries to push customers toward the higher end offerings.

Not that surprising that a camera costing almost twice as much as the cheapest in the lineup is better. I do agree that the Z50 seems to be an orphan without a future, possibly made to be a modernized version of the Nikon 1 V3 in size and features, which it manages, barely. The Z50 has a built-in EVF, while the V3 has a detachable, and the V3 has a fraction fewer pixels in the sensor. The last mirrorless the N1 line was the J5 (that has a 20Mp sensor like the Z50). A retro-style APS-C with IBIS should have be running to empty my bank account, but the chances for such a model appearing is very, very, slim.

As this type of camera, for newbee like me, no EVF it acceptable(plus function--can keep eye health-_-), but no flash means unacceptable. Many newbee don't have extra flash. Plus, today I order a lot of subs. list: 1. Screen Cover-- JJC, for protecting. 28 RMB 2. Tripod 1--Ulanzi twitchable tripod(function like JOBY, but use rubber, and much cheaper). 50 RMB 3. The only thing I would disagree on is the lens support section. I really think that Sony should have gotten first place in that. Some of their native APS-C lenses are, well, less than desireable (like the kit 16-50 PZ lens) but they do have a lot of third party support (both "official" -- Tamron, Sigma -- and unofficial -- with obscure companies like Meike, Viltrox and Yongnuo for example) and I think that's a huge asset to Sony. So I'd rank them as (1) Sony, (2) Canon EOS M (mainly because they have some native third-party support), (3) Fuji (they have some now, but historically it wasn't much until the past 6-12 months when Tamron started making lenses for Fuji cameras), and lastly (4) Nikon (as Nikon has not opened up the mount to third party officially yet, and most AF lenses are likely reverse engineered to get them to work on the Z system).

Aaah, again my favorite, and the one which we use to our best satisfaction, scores _last_ in the eyes of the Gods of KZbin. We love the Nikon Z50. The lenses are fantastic, and sharp so that the results of 50-200 throughout compare to the once $3000 expensive 70-200 f/2.8. Sensor is simply superb. The testers forgot also to mention how fast the Z50 is: 11 frames/sec, that was mere few years ago was only doable with top bodies. The weight and size of the Z50 and 16-50 makes it a perfect "purse size camera." Canon EOS-M has the problem that the lenses will never be interchangeable between RF and EOS-M. So I do not think that this is a recommendable system by any standard, if you also use RF, as I do. One thing I agree upon: Z50 has AF issue in low light. The 50-200 on long end is already f/6.3 and the camera fails to autofocus at dusk. Ok, so we have one field in which we could improve something in a future body. I also would like to mention: We love the z-mount. With its symmetric 4 flanges makes a short throw and the lens change is way simpler than in the asymmetric Canon RF. We also both with my wife prefer the tilt LCD screen over the fully articulated, but that is truly a matter of preference.

After Samsung NX1, and been trying out various other cameras because of my work, I come to realise that Samsung did a do or die product, whereas everyone else are in the same category as car manufacturers in that they do miniscule improvements and new "look" to fool consumers into buying their latest and greatest, they purposely gimp their cameras just so that they can "fix" it with the next generation. I am sure every camera manufacturer could create the ultimate super camera like Samsung did, but then what? They would have nothing to sell to you for another 5 or even 10 years until they can create the next super camera. This is reality with free market economics, its not matter if they can or should, its about "is it profitable?" Only under resource driven economy would such a camera make sense because you would want to reduce waste and make something that last for long time, so cramming such camera with every technology in the world would be beneficial and only charge for the resources needed to create it as there is no profit motive involved.

You guys should make a video about pocketable interchangeable system. Combo of smallest camera with pancake lenses, something like that. The main criteria should just be that you can put it in your pocket.

Fujifilm X-E4 with a 27 f2.8, in terms of stuff that is recent. Smallest, is the Pentax Q series. But the last Q body came out in 2014.

Yeah, depending on focal length preference it's gonna be either Fuji of Canon M. I wonder why they can't "re-imagine" each other's lens designs to provide a little bit of choice in the pancake form factor. 40mm equivalent is a beautiful normal focal length but 35mm equivalent is way more versatile in tighter situations.

As a Z50 user (previous owner of Sony A6500 & A7R2, Fuji xt10 & XT3, and multiple Lumix cameras), there are a few categories that you missed: 1) overall weight/compactness which fantastic for the Z50; 2) lens selection if you are welling to adapt Nikon F or Canon EF; 3) ease of use (menus, camera app, etc) and again I think the Z50 better than the Sony and Fuji in this regard - - dare I say nearly as good as Lumix cameras. I bought an adapter for EF/EFS lenses that fully supports auto focus for less that $60, and the lens selection is fantastic. Give the price, specs, ease of use, and my needs (excellent images, very reasonable 4K, super lightweight, good lens selection). For more professional work, I use a FF Lumix camera. However, for travel, street photography, light video work, the Z50 is fantastic.

Great video. Is the Fuji XT4 a good camera for beginners?
@bearbearingston76963 жыл бұрын
Like mentioned previously, price becomes a factor at some point because the cost of a XT-4 is the same or even a bit higher as a Z6, RP or A7III.
@professionalpotato47643 жыл бұрын
There's always the XS-10. Btw RP has dynamic range worse than m43, the sensor crops to almost a m43 size in 4k, a G9 or GH5 would do better. Z6 or A7iii don't have 8 bit so for hybrid shooters it's a dealbreaker. I bought the XT4 mainly for video, but in terms of photography it's not too far off. It also has 15fps burst which none of the FF cameras can match unless it's the R5/6, A9 or A1.
@bearbearingston76963 жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 Well, i did think of it mainly as a photographer so taking into account hybrid necessities then sure the XT-4 seems plausible like you said, but if i had to record video i would use mainly 10 bit just as i use RAW rather than JPG. I've edited XT-4 files and honestly i find them on par with the RP and inferior to the Z6, i don't see any advantages for image quality in the Fuji regardless of time processing the files although the burst rate is a consideration, it's low-key a sports camera because its AF is very good when not on video.

CaNikon are killing their APSC lineup on purpose... As a Canon APSC shooter if i try to jump to APSC mirrorless I think I'll have to look elsewhere... FF is out of reach even used (mostly for lens prices).
@problemat1que3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for each camera I buy, I buy three to five lenses. Definitely worth doing the math for planned lens purchases over the five years after the camera purchase (those trips we have planned to areas with epic landscapes, awesome wildlife, and the occasional portrait or macro photo).
@HappyHubris3 жыл бұрын
I looked at upgrading within APSC from my A6400 and concluded that the best APSC option was...just going FF with a used A7RIII for the price of a new X-T4. FF is eroding the APSC market and killing these premium APSC bodies. Except the Z50, which basically offed itself with neglect.

isn't it amazing how full frame a7C is smaller & lighter than apsc Xt4 😬
@zacharymoran75963 жыл бұрын
I say this as someone who ended up going with the A6600, but the XT-4 truly is an incredible camera. My specific use case prioritized size and battery life. I was already coming from the A6300, I’d have to replace my lenses (and in any case, the A6600 was cheaper than the XT-4). And I guess I had already committed to the A7RIV for a full frame, which plays really well with APS-C lenses. But if I was only ever going to get an APS-C camera, and could start over, Fuji. I’d love to eventually see a professional grade Sony APS-C, like a hypothetical A7IV body with an APS-C sensor. But until then, the XT-4 is seriously great.
