Carl hart helped me realize that I could quit the hard drugs, and that just because I was an addict doesn't mean that I'm damaged goods for life.

Ok I’ve scanned through the comment section. There’s a huge misunderstanding. The point is not that heroin is good or bad. There is no morality being taken by Rogan or Hamilton. What they are addressing is the criminalisation of drug addiction. And the hypocrisy of the laws that are being made. They are are advocating for personal responsibility and reasonable laws which aim to address addiction not throwing people into jail. Addiction is the issue not the drug. Because there are plenty of people who can very successful use even heroin responsibly and without addiction.

My father never touched alcohol or any drug and brags about never taking ANYTHING for decades, not even Tylenol for a headache or Tums for indigestion. He quite regularly mentions how he stopped taking Tums because he wanted to feel the effect of the bad food he ate instead of cover up the symptoms. He's 79 and in great physical health. He broke his back two years ago and has recovered fully. And oh yes, I forgot to mention. He could enter a competition for most abusive father of all time and probably win. He has zero friends, his children fear him and want nothing to do with him and none of his extended family talks to him ever. The point being that no one hates anyone for being an addict. We hate people for being assholes.

I've never taken heroin and it has nothing to do with the law.

If only the breakfast club gave him this much respect, Joe, you're that dude. Thank you for always being a kind ear to your guest.

Former heroin addict. Started just sniffing it to forget I lost the girl I was in love with for 10 years and it worked... too well. Was shooting up everyday for years till I figured my shit out. It may sound fucked up and I would never recommend it to anyone but I still think heroin saved my life cause I was absolutely on the path to suicide if I didn't self medicate and drive my attention in a different direction. I see it as the equivalent of being put into a medically induced coma. Huge difference of course cause I caused so much damage while I was "medicating" to myself and others but the end result was the same, I didn't die and I no longer want to. Clean 6 years now and even in my darkest moments I don't think about using. It's about confronting the reason you were running from the problem in the first place and if you never do that you'll always be vulnerable to relapse. Stigmatizing heroin will never fix the problem but only serve to keep the ones affected in the dark. The ones affected aren't just the users, it's everyone that knows them aswell.

Theres something great about watching two interviews chat. no talking over one another, they each let the other finish their points, they don't fly off topic. I stopped eating my steak to type this comment that's how much it means to me.

Libertarian views finally voiced properly and intelligentially. I don't need the government to protect me from myself. All these laws are used for selective enforcement and power over people through the fear of prosecution.
