Two things that stood out to me about this interview: 1) I find it strange to say the least that Bill was defending political hypocrisy here but later in his show went on to condemn Hollywood for their alleged hypocrisy. 2) Biden feeling like he has to meet with Saudi Arabia because they have oil is precisely why we need to really incentivize renewable energy in this country.

Listening to Cornel West leaves me with such ambivalent emotions. He's great to listen to and read and I don't doubt his sincerity for a moment; at the same time he represents the problem with having academics have such a leading role in public discourse. Academics tend to speak to questions and concerns about how things should be, while ignoring how things are. Yet for all Cornel West's words, I didn't hear any tangible, practical solutions for dealing with the increase cost of gas, inflation, homelessness or how we change the culture of Washington, so trustworthy people with character are drawn to politics and we're not saddled with the poor candidate choices we're often saddled with.

An excellent comment. It would be difficult for me t agree with you more. I’m Dr. West I see a sincere individual who is long in ideals but short in practical or viable solutions. Many of my favorite intellectuals generally tend to have this “flaw” if we can call it that. But listening to a sincere idealist who sees the darkness in the system is easier to swallow than having to suffer the insufferable optimism of the usual politician.

It would essentially require a collapse of society as we know it such that people could start anew, but a lot of people will be hurt along the way. If you look at history, that set of events seems to repeat itself over and over. Empires generally have to collapse: they don’t change starting at the top, the tree falls down because the termites have inundated the core and eaten it from inside out.

Interesting perspective. An informed opinion presented in a clear, unoffensive manner. As persuasive as the truth should be. It is odd, I noticed a little hesitation in giving credit where credit is due. It appeared Biden is being singled out for being part of what literally everyone else is. And only because it is a requirement of politics. If you have someone not connected, they will be ineffective. I agree with every point except for the reluctance to recognize accomplishment and advancement. Of course we are not done yet, but everyday is better than the day before. I was a little embarrassed I was not aware of the length of the list of actions taken by this administration, an acheivement for any president, adminstration, or person in general. Dr. West only tolerated the recognition, he did not support it. And the milquetoast reference is an inapproprite use of the word, implying Biden is 'still on the tit' and beholden to Wall Street. Let's not fabricate stuff that just isn't there. West is as much a milquetoast as anybody else, unless you consider a net worth of a half million as good as broke.

That's why Dr. West didn't applaud as much as you'd like him too. And Biden's black female Supreme Court justice is a died in the wool neoliberal. And imagine what Biden could've done with 54 billion dollars spent on Americans in America. But no, it went to Ukraine to fight a proxy war with Russia, which Ukraine and the U.S. are losing on a daily basis. Just another boondoggle to create money and transfer it to the top 10% of the nation, while the bottom 90% suffer with the highest inflation in 40 years. I think West was acknowledging the "achievements", but he was weighing them differently. Like, putting the first poc into this and that office or having more women in your cabinet etc are nice changes regarding culture, but policy wise this administration has done closee to nothing to change the live of americans to the better.
