Clinical evidence is always so convincing, so it is nice to see a physician that has so much clinical success with a low carb diet, thus providing substantial evidence of its efficacy. Thank you Dr. Westman for all the work you are doing, taking the low carb theory and putting it into practice.

Tomorrow is 1 month of Keto for me. I have lost 20Kg (about 44 lbs) 8 years of insulin treated T2D down from 70 units of insulin per day, down to 0. Metformin down to 1/3 of my usual daily dose. + Never got the "Keto flu" + Never got constipated. + severe back pain gone + bad join pains gone + muscle aches gone + after the 3rd day, no cravings for carbs. + I feel great! The whole process has been very easy for me. - I feel a bit guilty. Has it been too good/easy for me? - I need to get a new wardrobe soon. I'm expecting the weight loss the next month to be much smaller. But that's ok. I'm not doing keto as a temporary fix. This is my life now!

I just started this ‘Keto Medicine’ and wish I had a Doctor like Dr.Westman. I’m going off Metformin while eating a LCHF Keto diet. I know I’ll be a “former diabetic” very soon. I’m getting moderate exercise a.m.a.p. on my journey. I don’t have a great deal of weight to lose, but 15 lbs. seems a lot to me. I’m so glad to have found this in my own, as most Doctors have no idea about this.

Thank you for presenting information that I can understand. I am one of those newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics that (via KZbin) learned the value of a LCHF approach for treatment. Today my A1C, BS, and BP are in the normal range. Only by ignoring what I was instructed to do by medical protocol am I able to make this claim. Thanks for your bravery to go against the tide. ❤️

***** I'm afraid I don't know. I do know I lost a lot of muscle mass because I was still learning how to eat, and I didn't have my protein dialed in correctly. Now I eat about 1 gram of protein per kilo of body weight.

Aisha Ahmed I was at point of do or die. I have two daughters that I was afraid I wouldn't be there for so I had to do it. Getting started I had serious withdrawal issues regarding sugar and carbs. It's like the flu with severe weakness. You have to keep going and know that once you're body adjust to burning fat instead of carbs, you will feel better. Cost wise, I don't think it's more expensive. I eat all manner of meats. I buy the fattiest cuts, which can be cheap. I buy thighs and drumsticks, ground beef steak and so on. The expense comes in with real butter, heavy cream, and I make my own pork lard which is only $1.00 per pound. Coconut oil isn't cheap, but I only buy a quart per week. Bottom line is most people spend more money on entertainment than good nutrition. I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel now.

I was heading toward type 2 diabetes, so rather than taking a suppliment, or drug to "make it better", I stopped the habits that were causing the problem. Fix the problem at its source, don't medicate it.

What kind of insulin therapy are you on? You have to commit to low carb before you cut insulin or you'll just be in trouble with highs. T2? If you take basal and bolus for carbs, sounds like you cut basal in half, you won't be needing bolus if you're not eating carbs. Most therapy is chasing the blood sugars. If your BG doesn't go up after you eat, you won't need to inject! I'm Type 1 on a pump. I just bolused for the carbs I ate. Adjusted basal rate as I experienced lows. When I exercise, I lower the basal rate about 30% for one hour.

It works for me .problem is people fall off the wagon to easy .they dont get instant results and fail to maintain it until it gets to be a pleasurable habit and the results and obvious benefits smack them in the face .they have been sick so long they dont remember how it feels to be healthy .if they stick with it the health returns and life returns to great feelings moods energy and no aches pains stiffness or anxiety and depression .just give it as long as it takes and you will see .can take months for long term type 2 patients dont fall off the wagon control is in your hands not the doc

I think you mean glucose reading of a morning, caused by insulin resistance? , protein is normally no more than 20% with keto.. too much protein can stop you losing weight. about half of protein is converted to glucose.
@Jefferdaughter
@Jefferdaughter 8 жыл бұрын
Only protein consumed in excess of maintenance (or growth or lactation) requirements is converted into glucose - and you are right that it is easy for us to eat too much protein, until we get used to 'eating keto'.
@Jefferdaughter
@Jefferdaughter 8 жыл бұрын
This is not Dr. Westman's channel, so he probably did not see your question. If you are still not losing weight on the diet you mentioned, there are several things you can try: - Make sure you are not eating too much protein (excess protein is converted to glucose). -Add more fat to your diet! Coconut oil is said to be especially beneficial. But a variety of healthy fats are beneficial. (NO corn, soy, canola, or safflower oils!) - Make sure you are not eating too much, or too often, even of all the right foods. - Eliminate all fruits, all legumes (beans), all root vegetables, and all sweeteners (even zero carb sweeteners, either natural or artificial), if you have not already. - Limit the times of day you eat to 8 hours, or even 6, skipping either breakfast or dinner, whichever works best for you. - Try some days with just one meal. Some eat just a salad with olive oil, or just take coconut oil, for an 'almost' fast day. Try going a day without eating, but drink plenty of water. If this is difficult for you, you will know you are not in ketosis. Keep researching the info from good sources, like Low Carb Down Under. Hope some of these ideas are helpful to you, or others who are 'stuck' on a LCHF diet.

Linda Parent , read the book "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung, MD. He explains the hormones insulin, glucagon, ghrelin, leptin, and cortisol and how they cause weight gain or weight loss. The short story is fast as needed, eat keto/LCHF, get sufficient sleep each night (8 hours?), get the stress out of your life. There are additional details in the book.

What I cant understand and maybe someone here can explain is with statement that a type 1 diabetic cannot store bodyfat without insulin.If a body cannot store fat without insulin secretion then how is it that fat intake is said to not promote insulin secretion or very very little.Makes no sense.
@PorkChop71912
@PorkChop71912 8 жыл бұрын
Because fat has no carbohydrate. It has no sugar content, or protein, which means it can't increase blood sugar, which means low or no insulin secretion.
@jacobstravail

because the glucose makes triglycerides and the liver stores this as fat
