I was trafficked as a child. Horribly used and abused. In 1992 I met 2 Medicine Men from South Dakota who were running a Sweat Lodge and a all night tepee ceremony. I was not part of their group but was invited to participate. I had no idea they were Peyote Carriers. The Sweat was HOT-40 rocks thro 4 rounds. I saw such visions and had no idea why! I thought 40 rocks had fried my brains. They invited me to travel with them for 8 days all of which they gave me copious amounts of Peyote. What I saw. What I felt! A whole new dimension to living opened me up in such deep and beautiful ways. This was 1992 and I credit much of my incredible healing to this experience. I find Ayahuasca calling my name. I know it would be super difficult past my 50+ sexual assaults and beatings and child apprehension and addictions etc....I am clear 15 years now from drugs. My adult broken children returned to me. I am safe now and sound as can be. The journey with plant medicine is so needed for so many! I am very poor. I cannot even afford dentures at moment and have broken smile. I live on very small disability pension..I believe Ayahuasca will find me and present in a way I can afford. Please never give up..There is so much we have yet to understand. Source is so loving! Have a great day folks!

So basically what you are saying is modern medicine is finally tapping into something every educated alternative healer and metapysician have known since the days of gnosticism. You sir are the pioneer of a profound allopathic medical break through. Keep up the good fight Gabor. My father, prisoner 9555, survivor of Auschwitz, became a medical doctor and accomplished scholar of metaphysics. He would have been so happy to hear your words!

Gabor, I don't know if you read these comments. I met you twice this month at your talks in Toronto. The Parenting one I only attended Friday night. I was following your trip to Peru, (I had wanted to attend, & have met one person who did), so I hoped for a message from you, so thank you for putting it up. Your message here is fresh from the ceremonies & it conveys the importance and relevance of this medicine to healing and the importance of the tradition and protection provided by experienced traditional healers. I am a mom who survived the suicide of her 19 year old son. A 7 year journey to wholeness, acceptance, forgiveness and Love. The ceremonies provide for physical and energetic release of pain & trauma and a discovery of "something in here that I only intuitively and intellectually knew existed". (That was well said). It busts your heart wide open.(I could see that on your face as you said those words). Lots of things exist within our hearts & our energetic field and we cannot even fathom the dimension of it. The plant creates moments of connection to universal energy that is a connection to every living person, animal, plant, the earth, the universe. It is profound, enlightening, calming and intelligence all at once. It is truly what we call Love in the purest form. Integration back into our life after knowledge and experience is a challenge of mental gymnastics. It brings you closer to your authentic self & operating from a more heart based place, an energetic place. Your brain doesn't really get it and integration has a lot of lovefest to the brain going on. I'm excited and hopeful as this powerful medicine and it's healers are coming into our lives. Our society is so lost in health, emotional and spiritual wellness, we are losing many youth to suicide, mental health issues, physical & emotional pain. I support and continue my journey with ayahuasca and spiritual healer, healthy food, body & and open heart. There is much to be done. As we each heal we help heal our families and our ancestors. We connect to each other in a more profound and genuine way. Thank you Gabor Mate for your many years of work and for your spotlight on plant medicine. Ram Dass said it best "We are all just walking each other home". And to the Grandmother plant Ayahuasca for her teaching and healing. To those who hold the sacred space for Grandmother. Aho.

The maestros and maestras at the Temple of the Way of light saved my life. If you feel the plant is calling you, then go. It is that simple. The work is tougher than anything you can ever imagine but the rewards are not of this world. I would continue to work with the Medicine even if it was 100 times harder. There really is nothing like it but it demands tremendous dedication to your healing process.

Following my own profound healing experience with ayahuasca I feel an even greater appreciation for nature than I had before. I’m sickened and saddened by the destruction we’re doing to our planet. We need to realize that we are a part of nature . As we destroy ecosystems like the rainforest we’re slowly killing ourselves.

Dr. Gabor Mate is amazing, such insight of human nature. Spinoza a 17th century philosopher understood human nature in respect to the mind and his/her emotions. I have learned that pain and suffering is caused by confused thinking and the belief in freewill and free-choice is an illusion. As Dr. Mate explains that we are traumatized early, we carry this throughout our lives, where is the freewill in this? Strength is improving our understanding, knowing oneself. WayofSpinoza.com

"THE VALUE IS IN THE EXPERIENCE OF ONESELF" - That was DEEP! Beyond what words can express - as I am presently preparing myself for my first ayahuasca experience just a month from today - 4 years after I ever heard of its existence, when I "accidentally" bought a book called " The Cosmic Serpent", by Jeremy Narby while searching for books on personal development. So many synchronicities at play...

9:10 I am more than my traumas. My energy matters. 14:11: Unworthiness trance: I am worth the attention, or the relaxation and joy. Integrity is walking the talk: what we say to others is for us to hear. And. Do. I wish I could hear what he had to say after those 5 days focusing on himself solely. Respect to this courageous man facing his own resistances. This vulnerable share is very inspiring, thank you for sharing Dr. Gabor Maté's insights.

Or maybe, Aaron, like his father Gabor, has a brilliant, clear and honest mind. My heart cries and sings with you both and all who have the experience and knowledge he shares with us here. "Working" through the pain is not an understatement. It takes commitment, integrity and courage. Even if you have to start the process alone, you will be guided to those who can help you learn how to reconnect with yourself. I'm really grateful Dr. Mate was able to spend his time at the Temple of the Way of Light before COVID but you don't need to travel or have money to find this kind of healing, and we all need it. Check out his many other videos on how to begin. I am just so thankful that I, and so many others have not had to wait for him to have a complete experiential understanding for his own work to have changed our lives and how we think about our relationships with ourselves and with others. There is no official starting or ending place. It starts wherever you find yourself, and it continues wherever you find yourself and there is no end, until there is, and maybe not even then.

The true lesson of ayahuasca in its proper context is that NATURE HEALS. That's why it ought to be used only in the place where it grows--the rainforests of Amazonia. The egos of modern people are so blocked from Nature's wonders that they really need to experience ayahuasca in the forest with indigenous guides. Those guides never separated themselves from Nature. They have what we don't have or if we have it we need to become aware of it. Nature is there to teach us as it taught our ancestors over thousands of generations, before we divorced ourselves from Her with too much of the wrong sort of rationalism.

So resonating and regenerative of the experience...and way of being. Delving then intentional action through our own deep natures’ action. My journey to TOTWL (taught well :) started the moment I signed up in November and began preparations (though at 54, I was ‘ready’) for retreat in April. I even started to connect with the energy of my houseplants. I gained nourishment solely from plants. So much else. Then finally being with the maestros their ikaros, the talented facilitators, and above all shared compassion amongst our group only highlighted and reinforced the journey through the dark to light. The embers of the plant medicine that even now 7 months later remain available to me and who and how I am. Thank you Dr. Gabór for all your teachings and shared learnings. Thank you people and plants of Perú.

You have touched on so many keep points that are critical in order for one to be truly free and at peace of ones unresolved and unmet needs. I too have found through two 12 day visits at The Temple of the Way of Light that upon returning home that a continued question I need to ask myself is " Am I in alignment with my intentions? Am I walking that talk?" And further as you do beautifully spoke about, if not, what am I going to do to clean that up? Wishing you so much peace, healing, expansion on your path to your most gloriousness!🙏🏼❤️🦋🌹

Hi Susan. I hope this finds you well. That truly is a sign , thinking about going for years, that Aya is calling you. It is not a path for everyone but for those who resonate to plant intelligence, the yields, insights , are profound. I've only been to The Temple of the Way of Light and both 12 day retreats were jaw dropping brilliant on so many levels! I wouldn't have one complaint. You are so well taken care of , again on all levels. Most importantly, you need to feel safe and I always did If you are going alone and concerned being a female, all I can say is, honor that concern, but you'll be very fine. Book your flight, local flights too {separately though}. Make a reservation before hand so you'll be picked up upon arrival at the airport and taken to your hotel. The retreat will handle picking you up and all the transfers. You'll be well taken care of. Please dont hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Wishing you well

I don't know if I agree with everything said, when i went into the jungle i felt sooner to of brought with me a lot of first world issues, that required handling for solutions to develop. Or that i was bringing a host of issues to resolve. Felt my healing amounted or added to only so much for what is necessary in ongoing larger situations, though it can be argued how effective one is able to be, or the sense they may have for what is proper or necessary if they themselves aren't entirely well. For the level of toxicity in society, the overproduction of junk foods too readily available for people, it can be difficult for them to muster the required energy or positivity mentioned. Especially the ocean, it is good to meditate on that.

Has anyone seen evidence of ayahuasca healing C-PTSD by any chance?

For most who are 'called' (strong sense of feeling to be 'chosen' and guided to experience) it's a tonic for the soul, self and those who surround you .. yet wary as there are contra indicators if on SSRI's which won't mix well

Yes. I have over the last 6 years. I am connected with a shaman in Costa Rica also working in the Shibibo traditions and attend small ceremonies with very high integrity. I am connected with veterans and emergency workers who are starting to find relief from this sacred healing plant. As Gabor describes and again in the overview here, the integrity of the healers, energy workers and the plant medicine are all very important to have a healing experience.

I think probably no-one should promise you anything. Plant medicine can help you access parts of you that are in a blind spot. It can change your relationship with yourself and your relationship to other people. I think most people who have done a good healing ceremony report feeling more connected. As Gabor said, it's working on oneself. The stuff he was saying about integrity reminds me of the Four Agreements, have you read it?

You got to find the people who heal from it i guess and that should be it.
