Normal is 1000-3000 This measures the inflammation in the body. I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar oil or salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, rice, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

I had the same experience, lost 30 pounds. I follow a plant-focused diet with 10+ servings of vegetables/fruits per day. I do have oily fish a few times per week for the Omega 3 content, no other animal protein. A cup of beans per day. Total fiber about 70 grams per day.

This app made it soooo much easier for me to transition from pescetarian to plant based (transitioning into vegan now). I was constantly worried if I was eating the right things in the right amounts. The moment I got the app my life became 100 times simpler, I knew exactly what I needed, how much I needed, what I was missing by dinner time, reminded of B12 and D vit, which I wouldn't remember on a daily basis... I do have some lazy days when I don't feel like cooking or just want some junkfood and snacks. But over all this is a big deal. I kept looking for information online to figure out what to eat. I could find a lot of information on needing a certain amount of protein, a certain amount of a certain vitamin, but then putting all that information down on paper in the form of food items was impossible. Thank you so very much!

Nice- already hitting this pretty much bang on every day. Not boasting, just remarking that I'm glad to have Dr. Gregor confirm that I'm on the right track. Typical day: -Breakfast- 2-3 pieces of fruit, followed by steel cut oatmeal with chia, ground flax, cinnamon, peanut butter powder, vegan protein powder, cacao nibs, hemp hearts, and either walnuts or pumpkin seeds, add frozen strawberries to melt in once it's cooked and a bit of cashew milk. With a berry/banana/kale/soft tofu/Amla powder/cashew milk smoothie. -No lunch usually- just a big slice of watermelon. Sometimes pita with veggie 'meat' slices or hummus. -Dinner- steamed Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and butternut squash with nutritional yeast, turmeric, crushed oregano, garlic, sumac, lemon, and tahini with either a cup of lentils/chickpeas and herbs or a veggie burger. Snack is a dried seaweed pack, dairy-free chocolate or cubes of frozen pineapple, mango, and dragonfruit ( I eat them frozen for the crunchiness so I don't miss chips etc.) Lots of water while I'm hiking or working out, try to do between 1.5 and 3 hours every day, with a rest or alternate activity day after every 7-10 days. Lost over 40 lbs in six months at age 55. Want to note that the only reason I add protein powder is that I'm doing calorie restriction until I hit my goal in November, so I want to make sure my protein stays high because I exercise so much and eat sparingly. I'll stop the extra protein once I start eating maintenance calories again instead of the current 2 lb a week weight loss deficit.

How to create an infinite number of "Daily-Dozen-Bowls": In my tracking app I created a meal, picked my favourite food from every category & typed in the amount that is needed per day (all 3 portions, if there are 3). This results in way too many calories for 1 meal but the ratio is correct. So I then just scale the portion size of that meal down to however many calories I roughly want to eat this meal. The best part is that the foods I picked basically also work as a placeholder as I can just switch out foods with others from the same category to create an endless amount of possible Daily-Dozen-Bowls. If you want, you can add some kind of dressing to it; but to me it tastes amazing as it is. I personally keep the fruit out of the bowl and eat it ~30min. before the bowl though. Also these are very quick to assemble if you got the hang of it. Have fun~!

I have tried to eat as healthily as possible for several years but only recently started my transition to whole-foods plant-based. I only recently discovered you, Dr. Greger. Your lectures are awesome, and I love this video! I downloaded your app for my iPhone about a week ago but have to confess haven’t used it every day, but I’m not obsessing - just trying to incorporate as many of the daily dozen as possible. My problem is my hubby. He’s pretty long-suffering and will eat what I serve up for him but he’s frequently out at lunch time and I have no control over what he eats then - I can’t always manage to send him out with something because he’s an ad-hoc kinda guy who says “I’m going to be out for lunch today” at short notice|! He is overweight and diabetes runs in his family (so far he’s clear since the doctor advised omitting all added sugar) but he’s not really engaged with his health or diet. He was in a very bad way indeed when I married him over 30 yrs ago. I’ve been trying to persuade him to watch “Forks Over Knives” with me but so far he’s shown NO enthusiasm! How to get him enthused without putting him off? Also, what on earth do I do with all that meat in the freezer?!!! I am a permanent ileostomate and so far all this fibre isn’t causing me any problems at all - I just produce more output. I have fermented foods every day (kefir, kombucha) and make up my own rehydration drink that includes kombucha, and coconut water and Himalayan pink salt for electrolytes. Do you have any specific advice for ileostomates on a whole-foods plant-based diet?

The app is great. Would be nice to have a feature that tracks your “score” over the week and month, and makes it a game to improve the score over time.

I have had this book for awhile and just bought the cookbook this week. Wish I had bought it sooner. It IS beautiful, gorgeous pictures, high quality pages, and well written and thought out. The recipes are AMAZING. None of I’ve seen in other books. What I like the best is the recipes for the condiments used in case you don’t have a market that provides them. I’m a cookbook collector, and I may just dump all the rest. Also each recipe shows how many of the daily dozen will used.

I used to track my food in cronometer. It was a pain in the ass and i was always anxious about not hitting my targets. Now after trying the daily Ds I dont even need to use it every day I just have a good idea of what Im eating and what i might be missing. Thanks 🎉.

Great video, I subscribed. I would suggest you do a video about what foods to avoid or minimize. Tops on my list is refined sugar which I suspect is a prebiotic for bad bacterial bugs.

Oh my gosh this app just made my life so much easier :-) I've been vegan since 2014 on again off again. I originally started because I kept getting sick when eating meat and missing grad school classes, because I was throwing up LOL. This just made things so much easier and I realize I need to eat a lot more than I have been. I did much better when I was raw vegan I ate a whole lot oh, I did that for a year and 4 months. But living in New York changes things you got cold in the winter that's all I can say and you need some soup :-). But this just made things so much easier! It's already 4 p.m. and I've only eaten maybe half of what I need or should get in. I realize I don't have any beans in the house dot-dot. I'm headed to the supermarket for some legumes, and I'm just about out of almond butter. I couldn't be more thankful for this simple simple simple app that's also free!

The nutrition facts on U.S food packing states that the serving size and % daily values are for a 2000 calorie diet. Does the Daily Dozen app also base its serving sizes on a 2000 calorie diet? As a 60-year old small female, eating 1.5 cups of beans is a tremendous undertaking. And once I check off all the boxes on a non-active day, I've met my calorie goal - around 1350. Maybe add a button to the app that allows users to enter their daily caloric goal to adjust the serving sizes accordingly? Or maybe set the DD to provide serving sizes for a 1000 calorie diet? Let the larger male-folk multiply for a change; easier than dividing IMHO. And thanks to Dr. Gregor and his staff! You're the best.

App would be hugely popular if you add an option to share images of your meals. Just a constant feed of pictures, doesn't have to be fancy.

Why? If you're so driven to show other people what you eat there're are plenty of social media places for that.
