Honored to grow up with this man visiting my home. My mother was his student at UMASS Amherst, University without walls. My mother was a piano and vocal teacher. When he was over, there was a lot of laughter. I searched Him today as my brother just sent is autographed book that was given to my mother in 1997. RIP SIR and Thank you for your contributions to OUR Musical History. My mom thought the world of you, and according to the autograph, the feeling wad mutal!! Love and Light to you ALWAYS.

Dr. Boyer taught a course in African American Music at Umass Amherst. One day he sang "Going Home" in class and everyone was covered in goosebumps and many were in tears. What a talent. Sadly missed.

Back before the modern hatefulness of current universities and colleges. I just feel love here and that's what I crave these days.

I knew Horace back in the 90s. He was a voice teacher of mine, a very cool and fun guy. I heard recently that he has passed. Incredible voice, incredibly man!

I was honored and blessed to be a member of Dr Boyer’s choir in the 70’s at UMASS Amherst!! He was a treasure and mentor for that (me)young black girl’s spirit. Love and Light Dr. Boyer🙏🏽

Black choir music is so heavenly. You really don't get to see it really much in Canada. I would do anything to see a group like that. Incredible stuff

I love the Negro spirituals. Please tell me where I can hear them or get them. If you could name the titles or artists to look up. I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Thanks God bless these singers and the person who put this out there.

No no no got it all wrong when the ancestors were telling or singing the song Swing Low Sweet Chariot it was not about dying but it was about being rescued from the oppression that we are going through today the Chariots are what Americans call a spaceship yes Christ will pick us up in his vehicle which is a chariot that everybody in the world are so deceived to believe that it's called a spaceship those who do not know God or his son will definitely call is a spaceship but we know it as a chariot and that's why the ancestors were singing swing low in other words come down Low Sweet Chariot to pick us up out of this oppression that we may be saved thank you and everybody have a blessed day

Yeah, but if Jesus is coming down in a chariot to take you away you're probably already dead or he's taking you to heaven. He's not gonna come down in his "spaceship" and pick you up in the deep south and drop you off back where you were taken from. Also, most slaves were only Christian because their masters were and it was passed down to the next generation and now it's been adopted as the default religion of most Americans, African American or not. I bet nobody from Africa had a clue who Jesus Christ was prior to being stolen from their land and enslaved. Their whole culture erased and replaced by a white man's idea of god. I'm not religious either way I just find it strange that you think Jesus had the ability to come down in a chariot to save slaves but didn't 🤔

I remember our 2nd grade music teacher having all us lil white kids singing swing low and felt weird about it and still do.
@WillBravoNotEvil Жыл бұрын
That's a _you_ problem. Gospel music has an inarguably bifurcated history and whites have always been seen as purloining from the black path. Also, there have always been bad actors in all camps. If I steal a loaf of bread, we don't blame the bread. Capice?
