I am a nurse and agree with him so much!! My husband was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer 4 years ago and did the standard of care surgery and chemo and such. He ended up nearly dying with sepsis so he decided to stop chemo. He changed his diet completely and used herbs and supplements. He's had no evidence of disease for over 2 years now which has amazed every oncologists we've talked with. We realize maybe he was just lucky but I really believe food is medicine. This is my year to transform and focus on myself so hopefully I can help all others in my community with this type of message.

My takeaway is the profound effect that Dr. Hyman had on the family he worked with. The story of the boy asking if that was how he ate "everyday with his family", broke my heart. Americans are so poorly educated/informed about food/health, and we are failing so many innocent children. Thank you for this presentation Marie! 💕

I have multiple heath issues and need some serious cardiac heath care. Lumber spine problems and knee pain. I had been researching the Cleveland clinic and finally made an appointment. It was so quick and easy. Extremely polite and respectful. They even verified and authorized my insurance! I’m feeling very relieved and somewhat excited to being on my way to better health! ❤CC

I watched "Fed Up" a while back. I have already been practicing and using Functional Medicine in my life for some time. I am a naturalist and I heal my body with natural foods, herds, spices, & knowledge. I am a Restaurant Owner/Chef and I have been teaching my employees, customers, friends, and family about how You Are LITERALLY What You Eat. We need to educate ourselves which is our greatest defense and search out the answers ourselves, not waiting for them to be handed to us. And we need to ban together and use our voices to make changes in Congress & policies to make our food system a safer place for all. I really love the work you are doing. I am going to continue to learn & teach all around me how food was meant be, in hopes for a better future.

Dear Marie, this video has made a great impact on me, and I'm sure I'll come back to it several times to think over the topics you picked up once again. I've been struggling to lose my extra kilos for quite a long time. I don't overweight that much, but still my figure never looked ideal to me and I had very low self-esteem , especially as a child. Only recently I became more conscious of the reasons why I couldn't put off weight, and this video was REALLY WHAT I NEEDED. My goal was actually to impress others by getting slimmer, but now I understand that it's MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH what's IMPORTANT. Thank you again for inspiration !

I love this! I have been doing functional medicine for over 5 months and my gut is still messed up. Even with consistent exercise and beginning meditation, I am still frustrated. I knew stress and environment played a factor in my mindset and my inability to digest food, but… This episode impacted me by highlighting the key factor as to why I have been to unable to reach my health goals and create that perfect balance between mind, body, and soul. It’s purely the toxic environmental living conditions that I literally have been held hostage in (against my will). Thank You for helping me see the light because now I know what direction to take. 🙏🙌🏻

I love how he said to the family "let's cook!" There is something so magical when u take the time to cook something that comes from the heart. The secret to eating healthy starts with cooking. I don't get that fullfilling feeling from a big Mac meal. This has inspired me more than anything to simply cook and share that knowledge with others. Instead of preaching to others you should be eating veggies, you should be running. I want to instead say "come on lets cook !"

"Eat real food. Not too much. Mostly plants."- wise words from Michael Pollan. Start with that idea. Instead of looking at nutrition labels, look at ingredients. Better yet, instead of buying 'foods', buy ingredients that have not been transformed by adding other ingredients to it. Real veggies and fruit. Meat, eggs and fresh fish if you eat animal proteins. Nuts. A few grains perhaps. Then combine those ingredients yourself in your own kitchen in endless ways to make delicious, healthy meals. Have you heard of the capsule wardrobe? Why not create a capsule pantry and refrigerator with healthy basics and a few 'fun' add ons to add variety and a little decadence like a little dark chocolate and maybe some red wine if that's your thing. It doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Start slowly, do it consistently and feel good about it 😀 But consistency is key 🔑

Love this video so much! I started learning about nutrition in depth a couple years ago and Fed UP was such an eye opening movie. I really wish more people knew how bad processed food is. Growing up, the only person who tried to teach me "real nutrition" was an 8th grade science teacher who secretly taught us that the typical food pyramid is not correct.

Hmm. I didn't know the economy was bad. But I will say that during the recession of 2009, I ate incredibly healthy because I started making all my meals at home -- vegetable and protein soup, vegetable and fruit smoothies, and zero processed food. Eating healthy is not expensive. That is a myth. I can make a week's worth of delicious, vegan soup for $10. Buying fast/processed food is expensive.

Detox and only put healthy food in your body, even if it means not eating out (sad)! i still struggle with decisions because of time, work, or influence but prepping ahead is critical in making choices easier! how can we find out what the food industry is doing, like the doctor said thhey can call it 0% even though there are bad ingredients and also how can they do that? im just thrilled that we, as a whole, are recognizing the diseases, intolerances and desparate need for change!!

I know my biggest obstacle when it comes to eating healthy is time, not money. I'm aware that grocery shopping costs less than fast food but I'm a single dad who runs a business and cooking isn't on my list of things that can be done in a reasonable day. Do any of Mark's books talk about quick-fix recipes that are 15mins or less? I do enjoy cooking when I can but this is maybe twice a month, not every day as it should be.

One another thing that has a HUGE IMPACT on your health (that isn't mentioned here) is: your EMOTIONS and BELIEFS. I've been waiting for this topic to be on Marietv! Very interesting and something that is most important to us all. The best insight was that we must think about the body as a whole system, not just a bunch of different organs. I really hope our society will change and let go of what the system dictates us how to think about food.

The cost of fresh food in Hawai'i is horrendous and frozen isn't that much better. I would love it if Dr. Hyman helped us to figure this out especially with my spouse and daughter being very picky. I hear that's true for a lot of people. I just got into cooking in the last few years and like my food better than most restaurants (they use industrial seed oils that make me feel yucky). You could start by making a family dinner on Sundays when you have more time (if you work a 9-5). Dr Hyman has tons of free recipes on his websites. I haven't made them but they look amazing. I love Zenbelly. She is paleo and shares recipes on her site as well.

I just opened a can of anchovies in olive oil, put some cilantro on them an put them on crackers and ate them. They were pretty mushy. I knew they would be salty from the only experience I have with them and knowing that people used to order their pizza without them. Evidently the pizza places don't even put them on pizzas anymore. I really didn't know how to eat them so I did the best I knew how. I'm not a very picky eater and lots of times eat things because they are good for me. Can you tell me how I'm supposed to use them?

Great interview, though I was disappointed that there was no mention of how a health coach would be a great fit in supporting those people who don't know where to start or cook healthy meals on both a time and financial budget
