Dr. Greger visited Google NYC to discuss his new book - How Not to Die.
The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-recognized lecturer, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org, examines the fifteen top causes of death in America-heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure, and more-and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives.
The simple truth is that most doctors are good at treating acute illnesses but bad at preventing chronic disease. The 15 leading causes of death claim the lives of 1.6 million Americans annually. This doesn’t have to be the case. By following Dr. Greger’s advice, all of it backed up by peer-reviewed scientific evidence, you will learn which foods to eat and which lifestyle changes to make to live longer.
History of prostate cancer in your family? Put down that glass of milk and add flaxseed to your diet. Have high blood pressure? Hibiscus tea can work better than a leading hypertensive drug-and without the side effects. What about liver disease? Drinking coffee can reduce liver inflammation. Battling breast cancer? Consuming soy is associated with prolonged survival. Worried about heart disease (our #1 killer)? Switch to a whole-food, plant-based diet, which has been repeatedly shown not just to help prevent the disease, but arrest and even reverse it.
In addition to showing what to eat to help prevent the top 15 causes of death, How Not to Die includes Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen-a checklist of the foods we should try to consume every day. Full of practical, actionable advice and surprising, cutting edge nutritional science, these doctor’s orders are just what we need to live longer, healthier lives.

Don't think so. Greger only presents evidence which supports his beliefs. The sad part about Greger is he surprises everything that don't agree with his beliefs. His beliefs have been peer reviewed and holes and flaws have been found which Greger can't explain. Newer research pokes even more holes in Greger's beliefs. This is not to say Grerger is completely wrong. but we know have better theories to explain what's going on. Greger really needs to update his material and beliefs.

I posted a couple today, he is a quack and bias. Only thing he says that is true that vegetables are good for you (though he should be saying 'organic' each time with that word due to Glyphosate on all USA farmed products thanks to Monsanto, but that is a different forum). I have no respect in General for MD's (they about killed me with Med's and information or lack thereof) after my heart attack in 2011. Come to find out after years of research since it is all wrong and we have all been, and still are, being lied to. It is coming around though, so keep watching. Veggies are great, and if you are metabolically sound, and choose that lifestyle, I think it can be healthy. However, almost 1/2 of America over 30 (and that number is going down each year) are metabolic syndrome (ie: have diabetes or are pre-diabetic) and going from the SAD diet to almost anything will help, but if you are (like I was) pre-diabetic and have the big 5 for risk of heart attack then you should probably not eat as much as a carrot for a bit till it is under control. Anyway, this past year I moved to a ketogenic high fat diet, and my lipids are better than ever. HDL up and triglycerides down. Vitamin D is up (get int he sun daily now, best way to improve 25-hydroxy). I eat 70% fat, much of it saturated as well. 4 eggs with bacon each morning and keep in mind I have a stent!! However, and this is big no matter what Dr. Jeckal here says "it is all grass fed organic, no hormones or steroids, no veggies sprayed with Glyphosate or GMO seed. I think this is where the problem lies and this is being researched as well and know. All these diseases (cancer and CVD) spiked around the 70's and have a linear raise after then introduction of Round Up and GMO crops.... You cannot alter anything and expect all these tests to be accurate and this research to be controlled! I eat myself 30 Grams only of carbs a day mostly from spinach with each meal cooked and a salad with no carb dressing, and some lemons in water etc. There is so much info out there just need to search for it, do not take all this idiot has to say to heart, he is HIGHLY bias, I promise you. That said, I am NOT saying the a Vegan diet is not right for many, especially if your lucky enough to be insulin sensitive and not insulin resistant. That is the difference between us, I will never tell anyone to cut out all their vegetables, because I an not on the board for either the humane society or the cattle company. I comment and make decisions based on 'real' science and papers of which "all" are available and viewable without this guy stating that 'he has researched all the documents on this topic so you do not have to"... clearly that is a lie. Make good choices :) ketocentral.shutterfly.com/pictures/12#11 www.humanewatch.org/hsus_doc_exposed_as_schlock/ www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/death-as-a-foodborne-illness-curable-by-veganism/

The point of this lecture is to promote eating more veggies and fruit and less meat. I have seen others that are here on UTube where he addresses the pesticides and herbicides sprayed on the produce. His point is to get people of the drugs or better yet prevent them from going on it He is aware I assure you of that .

It's got to be explicitly stated that the abstinence of meat isn't for health benefits, but rather for personal moral or religious reasons. If some nutritionally naïve person watches Greger's vids with the goal of learning about an optimal diet, they'd be mistaken in to believing animal products are unhealthy. Having to supplement makes a vegan diet incomplete, and that's fine if like I said it's done out of moral reasons rather than health reasons.

How did it go? It's OK to keep trying. The only failure is the failure to try again. Personally, I took three years to go vegan. I treated bacon as a food group so this was how I had to do it. I gave up pork first, then beef and chicken, fish and shellfish, then cheese and milk, then butter. But I made every lifestyle change as I could handle it, one bit at a time, and that's why I stuck to it. Keep trying!!

I recently had a hernia repair surgery, due at least partially from exercise, but have had no colds or flu for a couple of decades. Been vegetarian for 30 years, vegan for more than 20, WFPB for 8 -- since Caldwell Esselstyn's book came out. I made an e-copy for myself and gave the physical book to my mom who is going to be 90 next month. People can see the Forks over Knives movie and log into the website, the stories and testimonials are true. Average people and even Doctors are waking up to the news, ;0.

I'm actually very curious how you can manage to pull that off. Especially if you drive at night. At least my personal experience with switching to a WFPB diet was that I have to go to the toilet twice a day now, which would be pretty inconvenient if I had to wait for hours until a restroom opens. On top of that, it must be hard getting healthy food from highway cafés - how are you managing that? Are you taking food with you instead? I'm asking for a friend whose a trucker who said he'd like to eat a lot more healthy after seeing what it did to me, but these were some of the reasons he thought it might be difficult.

@@MrPranker247 Source: history proves it. Just one example: the strongest men in the world eat meat, and a lot of meat. Vegans have one strongman, who didn't turn Vegan until after he'd built up his body. He relies on huge amounts of supplements, because a true whole food vegan diet would leave him small and weak. The world's strongest men get most of their protein from meat, not shakes. Secondly the Vegan body builders like Namai Delgado are cheating, they take steroids and again rely on protein shakes heavily. You aren't seeing what you could do as a normal person on a Vegan diet.

My last blood work results which was done 6 months ago were not good . I am planning to do next blood test in 2 months and hoping that all readings in normal range. Changing to plant based diet, cut down sugar, carbs, oil, and 45 minutes walk a day worked very well for me in improving overall health.

This lecture was a very pivotal part of my change in diet. In my mid 20s I had this notion that I was indestructible and that I could eat anything I wanted. After some health scares I eventually became vegetarian. During the pandemic I had time to think about a lot of things, and eventually found the idea of harvesting sentient beings for food when I knew that better, cheaper and healthier alternatives were available was inexcusable, so I became full vegan in 2021. I have more clarity of thought, improved sleep, and I have not been sick in at least 2 years, no COVID or even a cold. I am not saying my experience will necessarily be the same as other people’s, and I’m not saying a vegan diet will solve all your problems, but it’s a step in the right direction and it seems most nutritional research supports that.
