Since the night of June 15, 2021, there have been no answers as to where Candus and Don’s 5-year-old daughter Summer could be. The parents say they thought they were doing the right thing by requesting the public's help to find their little girl, but it backfired. Instead, the couple say they became targets of online bullies who accused them of involvement in the disappearance of their missing child. In part 2, Don and Candus speak out in their exclusive first national TV interview. Dr. Phil digs deeper into the story to discover whether there is any new information that might help solve the mystery of Summer’s disappearance.

Agreed. How could a stranger come on a property with 8-13 dogs and not have at least some of the dogs go absolutely crazy and alert everyone inside? Even if the dogs were (hypothetically) in kennels on the other side of the house, they'd still know. It had to be someone the dogs were familiar enough with not to bark at: someone in the family or someone who came over often.

This dimension of grief may cause the “going crazy” syndrome. And those following this case, clearly seen that mulitiple times between the two of them. In grief, thoughts and behaviors are different from what you normally experience. It's only natural that you may not know if your thoughts, feelings and behaviors are normal or abnormal. Symptoms such as depressed moods, difficulties in concentrating, anger, guilt, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, and extreme sadness then become common.​Usually this happens more with the mother than the father but we've seen both sides. A few things to know: Don tried to sell his first son from a previous relationship for drugs, also is a sexual abuser. Candus had her kids from a previous relationship taken away because of abuse. The neighbors heard a scream the same time summer went missing. Why aren’t they investigating the swimming area, she could’ve drowned.

I believe the mother knows exactly what happened. I've even wondered if that poor child ever came back from the lake. Maybe she helped her grandmother with flowers before the lake , maybe her walking in the house and asking the boys where she was ,could have been a set up. Maybe they assumed she must have gone inside from her door instead of through the kitchen. Maybe she fell and got killed on those dangerous stairs or ladder or whater it is going downstairs. Idk if the authorities checked that lake. I find it really weird to take 1 child to the lake and not the others. Going to the lake usually involves all the kids , not just the one.. idk something is not right with the mother and the farther either suspects she knows something but chooses to look the other way. I mean they both could be protecting one of the other children. God knows that house is not safe for children to live inside . Its filthy , looks like hoarding is going on and the general home , no staircase ? Having to duck under a kitchen island to go downstairs. Her bedroom happens to be right where the basement door is , they have no wall between her parents and her. Why wasn't the parents bed near the door instead of a child. If she wanted to she could just walk out of that house in the middle of the night smh.

I don’t believe it was a 5 minute interval that Summer was lost in. I think they let their kids be a lot more latch key than they are willing to admit which is what is bringing down suspicion on to them. If they admitted to their inattentiveness maybe they would come off less like they are lying. If they did have anything to do with her disappearance, I think they are covering for negligence, not that either of the parents hurt her themselves.

From hearing the mom say that she walked Summer to the house and told the boys to watch her, and then gone for maybe 2 minutes, I wonder why. Why if they are on a cul-de-sac road that leads to their house only; virtually a private drive and Gma's trailer is 15 to 20 ft. from the back door, why would you be overly concerned? I lived in the country. My place was private. If I was working in my yard and my 5 year old wanted to go inside, he did. I didn't walk him to the door, I watched him go in the door. I didn't tell his 12 yr. old brother to watch him. I knew he would and they were in our house. My child knew not to cook anything, not to try to use a knife to peel anything, and I could be in my garden for 20 minutes without feeling like a neglectful mother. I wonder how many mothers walk their children inside when they can watch them go inside? How many mothers tell the other kids to watch a 5 soon to be 6 year old? Inside their own home? I don't think it is neglectful if you are outside, that close to your house, with no neighbors, to take the time to place a brace on grandma's knee. Maybe some parents are helicopter parents, but Candus and Don seem more like free-range parents. In their secluded area where their home is, it's not exactly free range to let the kids be inside by themselves for more than 2 minutes. I think you are correct. she let some time get away from her and she's concerned it'd be viewed by Don or the public as neglectful.

You know, I was suspicious of at least one parent - not certain, just a bit iffy. An abduction seemed improbable because of the short time span and proximity of others. But, then again, if something happened to Summer, like Mum going too crazy with corporal punishment etc., then you would think the boys would know and let on. The fact there was a backdoor to the area where Summer was playing at least admits of the possibility of a snatch. Here's why I remain open-minded. In Australia, we had a recent case where the parents claimed their girl was snatched from their same tent while sleeping. Many, including myself, were a bit suspicious of the parents and it DID turn out to be an abduction. Thank god, they found the little girl more than two weeks after she was grabbed, apparently unharmed (physically). It looks like the guy who grabbed her wasn't even a molester, thank heavens, but had some weird fantasy about having a kid, so just went and grabbed one. So I learned a lesson with that one - however implausible, strange things can happen. That's not to say Summer's parents are off the hook - just let's keep an open mind.

Let's say, it wasn't necessarily that I suspected them, it was more that the circumstances were strange. If you just applied Occam's Razor, you might say the highest probability was one of the parents may have hurt their daughter, prob by accident, then covered up. She told her mother she was going inside with her brothers & went downstairs and out the back basement door. Once down at the end of the driveway someone saw her & put her in their car. there was 2 lies in this interview clip... Candus on her reconstruction of the day said she DIDNT go in the house when she took Summer back to house.. she stops outside and yelled to the boys to keep an eye on summer.. and DON was the one who came up with the dog trail so he DID know it was there

I think he thinks she’s lying and she knows what happened. Maybe He sticks up for her in front of the world but accuses her at home.
