@ToxicallyMasculinelol4 жыл бұрын
not really fraud. it sure is a real crime but most of these wouldn't be considered fraud even by a loose interpretation. i think these hate crime hoaxes are absolutely reprehensible, and the wannabe victims perpetrating them are absolutely pathetic. but it's not necessarily fraud. "In law, fraud is intentional deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain, or to deprive a victim of a legal right." in a lot of these cases, material benefit isn't proven. a lot of people are just doing it for ideological reasons or for some abstract social benefits that can't be quantified in legal terms. of course in the jussie smollett case it could easily have been proven (and effectively was) to a jury that he gained material benefits as a consequence of his massive deception. and there were many aggravating factors, like actually carrying out the fake attack in front of a CCTV camera to falsify evidence, misleading police and wasting huge amounts of taxpayers' resources. so the prosecutor dropping all the charges is absurd and clearly corrupt. he should go to prison for at least fraud and perjury and be sued for a bunch of civil offenses to recoup all the money the city wasted investigating his bullshit claims. he still might, i believe he's under federal investigation now. but this is really an exceptional case, where the "victim" received a huge amount of publicity and effectively produced fake video evidence of the crime. in most cases it doesn't go nearly as far and doesn't result in the perpetrator gaining a ton of international recognition, additional opportunities and even straight-up donations. in my opinion, states should come up with new statutes specifically for hate crime hoaxes. it isn't quite the same thing as fraud, and it doesn't really matter whether there is material benefit. it is intrinsically damaging to society regardless of the outcome. it should be treated the same regardless of how famous the fake victim is, or how much they gained as a result. at a bare minimum, it should be treated similarly to statutory offenses like inciting violence or inciting hatred since it is a very similar crime. unlike most types of fraud, it is not far off from a violent crime, since it often alleges fake violence and potentially incites real violence and real hatred. and in cases where the perpetrator specifically accuses someone, or where the fake victim doesn't directly accuse someone but the police end up charging someone, or someone ends up being publicly identified as the perpetrator of the alleged crime and suffers as a result, it should be considered akin to assault and theft. and not only have criminal penalties but open the perpetrator up to civil suits for material damages, which can be very real in these cases... just like in cases of false accusation of sexual assault.

Regarding being angry when wrongly accused, when I was in HS back in the 90s I got accused of "attempted" shoplifting at a best buy by some cow. Basically, she told me and a buddy we had to leave the electronics section if we had no intention to buy and I made a comment to another employee that she was rude and we want to make a complaint. Guess she ran off and told the woman instead. Other employee never came back to us, so we just decide to leave. Get stopped by security who said an employee said we were shoplifting. They frisk us down, nothing. Security is like, we can't let you leave yet, because that fat cow came up with a computer game with the wrapper half ripped off that we "tried to steal". I was irate. The security guard kept saying "If you didn't do anything why are you mad?" Oh I don't know, maybe because you won't let me leave and are accusing me of attempted theft. Then I said there is cameras all over the store, we didnt even go down the aisle with computer games, show me in that fuckin aisle let alone attempting to remove a game from its packaging. "Well uh, the camera wasn't activated that looks down that aisle". Ok so then my finger prints should be all over that game, call the friggin cops. "Uh, you can just go". I was still pissed for like a week because I knew nothing was going to happen to that bitch over this.

@Schneider6245 жыл бұрын
I agree with Calvin and TranscendentalTunes. His examples aren’t that good. It all depends on scenario, the accusation, and the person itself. For example, Saying “honestly, yada yada” could be explained that the person is telling you something they find embarrassing. Just because you don’t care if they smoked a cigarette doesn’t mean the person smoking are embarrassed by it.
@greasemasterreviews25945 жыл бұрын
The problem with Dr Phil's logic on the convincing. The statement has truth to it, which is why it is easy to relate to. The truth is, small liars do like as he explains. But, People who lie deeply as a part of their character however, is a different story. He uses this example for the jussie case, but jussie was guilty and plead he didn't do it. just a little contradicting is all. Not trying to bag on your opinion

@@Dr_Lucozade Very evident they're lying. Gates for example, when he's lying, he can't help but smile and look away from the interviewer. Fauci, uses a method of deflecting responsibility. Fauci may be better at showing no facial expression, however he does show not only in language but in his expression, conflicting beliefs. Here's a minor example. So you cough, can one of your family members catch an illness you have? Studies show 1 out 5 can. Depending on how toxic you are, and how close your contact is. This is something all families know. If I get sick, once and awhile one of the kids might get it. And vice versa. Exaggerated truth here. Not exactly a lie, however it does conflict with truth. Fauci is clever enough to speak in a circumstantial way, which can be forgiven. Because, well we're human, we make mistakes. My thoughts, is Fauci will be the scape goat. He will be the one, "retiring" and used to deflate this over inflated situation. Bill Gates, he'll probably go into hiding. He's well hated for stealing technology, claiming for himself. Infecting millions of people with Aids, etc etc. I hope to see him sentenced to life. You can take a psychology course, watch the show "lie to me", watch Doctor Phil. When you do something repeatable, for decades. And, experience every angle of every lie, eventually you pick up on that behavior. And that does include body language, reaction, deflection. There are so many ways to identify a liar.

I've never been a big Dr. Phil fan - this is the first time I have really appreciated his comments. They were insightful, plentiful - several points made which helped to explain the probable causes of the behavior. Now I can lay this disturbing story to rest - or at least a part of it. It still is upsetting, for people to fraudulently claim victimhood, wasting police resources and manipulating emotions of the public. .

jon at -40, it would depend on the volume of bleach and the amount of chlorine content. But even then, it wouldn’t be instantaneous. At my job we circulate 15% chlorine solution to treat production water. At -12 it starts to freeze if it’s not being circulated. At -25, we were basically pumping bleach slushee.

Probably the best tell of a liar, from my experience, is if it seems like they're doing extra thinking. Telling the truth is like summarizing a book you just read, while lying is like writing the book as you summarize it. If they're caught off guard of course, good liars will have the story written out ahead of time so they can have their story straight. It takes a lot more brain power to work through a lie in your head than it does to tell the truth. And even if they had their story planned out asking specific questions is a good way to poke holes and see how full of shit they are
@ksc7432 жыл бұрын
If you're a naturally trusting person, which I am, it's quite shocking to find out a close family member is a pathological liar. They would lie even if there was no reason to lie. I realised it was either a sickness (but no other signs of sickness - actually a very clever person) or a game, to see whether they could get away with the lies. Then when you did catch them out they'd say "don't be silly, I was only joking". That person is gone now but I can tell you I still despise them for those lies and ever since then I find it difficult to trust anyone because people can lie so convincingly.

@@DeathByLoveOfSpeed I'm not American so I'm not talking about politics. My experience was a close family member. Telling white lies is one thing - everyone tells those, but lying pathologically when there's no need, only to find out later they've been lying for no reason, was confusing and very hurtful.
