My uncle, Harold Bellis, was a brilliant chemist at DuPont laboratories. He was the one that isolated curcumin in tumeric. This was then tested as a treatment for various cancers. It never had a big enough impact on cancer that it would have been financially viable. However, it worked well enough that my uncle believed that it might prevent certain cancers. He faithfully took curcumin and black pepper daily until his death two years ago at the age of 92.

I mix them all together, and then take about a tsp. of mix, 1 tsp. coconut oil, in a four oz. glass. I then add a little very hot water, mix well, and then add the rest lemon juice, no sugar. Just lemon and water, that also keep ready. I try to take some every time I go to the sink for a drink. 4-6 times a day. I used kratom too, for the pain after I quit pain mgmt, and all their drugs. I have been diagnosed with IBS many years ago and i have just tried turmeric randomly somewhere around half a year ago, ever since i somehow started to like it by myself and buying it regularly. My IBS symptoms were in remission for the past 3 years however, but it looks interesting that i got to like turmeric on my own, without even knowing it helps people like me with IBS. Weird but im happy to know now why i like it, probably helping my guts without me even knowing about all this stuff around this spice.

The only thing I would say is to be mindful of lead content with spices, many test positive for lead and arsenic. You might have less chance of that with organic but it's not guaranteed. So moderation in all things. I bought a big bag myself to try a warm drink called "golden milk", made with almond milk, tumeric, ginger and honey. Could add some black pepper too.

The guy goes on a rampage about oats because they contain phittic acid even though they don't contain enough of it to produce negative effects in humans (as studies proved, regular consumption of oats showed up with no deficits in calcium, iron, zinc etc)... yet he doesn't even concearn with.the fact that excess iron (which is predominantly caused by high red meat intake) is just as bad for you as iron deficiency (excessive iron leads to more LDL getting oxidised thus increasing the amount of foamy macrophages in your arterial walls leading to faster developement of atheroaclerosis; raised hemoglobing and red blood cell count from excess iron make blood more viscous providing more strain to your heart and significantly raising the risk for blood clot to form)

I have been consuming turmeric and pepper every day for the past 2.5 years (along with an OMAD lifestyle based on a meal containing almost no highly processed foods, very low carbs, significant fat “EVOO, and a whole avocado” and moderate protein - whatever my wife feels like having - at dinner time). Since I began this regimen, I’ve lost 80 lbs., dropped my A1C from 8.9 to 5.0, my very high blood pressure has plummeted to 120’s/80’s, I’ve eliminated all of the join stiffness that I had been associating with normal aging. As a result, I did something my GP told me was going to be impossible - I am off the raft of prescriptions I had been on for many years and feel decades younger. My story is far to long, but serious health issues started me down this path and I have shocked my GP, Oncologist, Hematologist, Surgeon, Eye doctor, and my barber who has been cutting my hair for the past 40 years. I wouldn’t change a thing. My only regret is being unable to convince friends and family that they should entertain following my lead. Once you get past the carb addiction, it is really all on autopilot and your body knows what to do. Thanks, as always, for all you do! 😊😊😊

While I also find Saladino's comments to be nonsensical - I had a nasty side effect from turmeric/curcumin, but also very beneficial main effects. I found curcumin useful for tamping down inflammation from fibrocystic breast. I've tried a number of curcumin supplements, but found the most powerful was actually a turmeric tea - Numi Golden Turmeric Tonic; it does not include black pepper, but does have dried lime and lemon verbena. Within an hour of drinking a cup I had reduced swelling and pain. The next best product was Gaia Herbs' turmeric product which includes pepper extract; Theracurmin was in 3rd place. I did not notice any effects at all when taking Meriva. Unfortunately, I also would get shoulder pain when using these products - similar to the shoulder pain I experienced when on Cipro. I checked the literature and, yes, curcumin is a topoisomerase inhibitor. So I'm curious about that and also - why on earth does toperisomerase inhibition have such an awful effect on some people's shoulder tendons?! ~ As far as detoxification goes - there are some polyphenol detoxification products that are more harmful than the original polyphenols. Specifically, 4-ethylphenyl sulfate (4EPS) seems to cause anxiety and worsening of autism symptoms. It is derived from 4-etyhylphenol (4EP), which is sulfated by the human enzyme SULT1A1. I did notice better mood when taking the Gaia herb product. ~ Note that another side effect from these products I noticed was increased bleeding time. Eating more dark leafy greens or taking a K1 supplement fixed that.

Hi, you speak about turmeric reducing inflammation around 12min. I think it’s important to highlight that this isn’t necessarily good, as your body repairs itself through inflammation. It’s like how cold baths stop hypertrophy through reducing inflammation. Do you think it’s possible that this reduction in inflammation is stopping other healing processes, or reduces the toxins that lead to damage and therefore inflammation?
@Lulu-kt6gr8 ай бұрын
I don’t think it repairs itself through inflammation. I think it’s more that inflammation is a marker of injury or dis-ease in the body and the body needs anti-inflammatories to bring down the inflammation, or heal it. Chronic inflammation signals that the body is in dis-ease and to restore it to health, anti-inflammatory foods are good medicine.

@@Alex-yo7sr Not quite. The inflammation has a role in healing immediate wounds as well as chronic inflammation caused by bad diet, smoking etc- BUT it does so by SIGNALING there is an immediate wound or a chronic situation. THEN the body can heal if given the chance.. I. E. If there’s a damaged artery, it will send out cholesterol to heal it BUT if that cholesterol is already OXIDIZED due to bad diet ( like fried foods) then it turns into a clot and can cause a heart attack. The body uses inflammation as a SIGNAL that the body needs help; it is not the healer in itself.

@physionic I’ve read on PubMed I think that curcumin has cox-2 inhibiting properties, similar to celecoxib. This means it will produce pain relieving benefits like ibuprofen does (which is a Cox-1 and cox-2 inhibitor) but without the cox-1 inhibition, which means it doesn’t impact stomach (limiting ulcer Formation). Can you confirm? I haven’t looked into this in a long while. In addition the NSAIDS have negative impact on heart, increasing BP and heart attacks. So it makes sense long term curcumin users might be at risk of heart disease, assuming what I just said is all true. Using it “as needed” I.e. when in pain - might mitigate these effects. But daily use in cooking or “just because” might lead to heart issues. Would love your input !
