This was very helpful. I had thought keto adaptation took a few weeks based on how people talk, so knowing it's more like 9-12 weeks gives me a much more reasonable outlook. I appreciate Dr. Phinney posting these as many of us will not be lucky enough to find a keto-knowledgable doctor.

That is fascinating. When I started Keto, I had a massive drop in performance the first weeks. Even my lighter endurance workouts I failed miserably. I wanted to quit Keto because of that, even though I lost a good amount of weight (which was my intention to start Keto in the first place). After 4 weeks it got much better and after 8 weeks I could perform just like I used to.

Stefansson's book is most informative. Schwatka's was more tedious but I muscled my way through it. Both men became fat=adapted and this helped their survival. It worked for them just as it did for the Inuit and the Eskimo.

Wish these folks didn’t have so much vested monetary interest in their information. I’d like to see them discuss openly their secondary monetary gain from Virta Health. Not just independent science.

Does the keto adaptation process go away if the state of ketosis goes off before full adaptation? I was in ketosis for about six weeks, then ate poorly for two days. Now I've been doing this for another six, maybe seven weeks, and I'm wondering if I should consider myself not adapted.

Once fat adapted and you switch back to carbs...Does it take the same amount of time to switch back to Keto-Adaptation?
@VirtaHealth
@VirtaHealth 5 жыл бұрын
Phillip Woolston It depends on how long you resume a high carb diet. If it’s for longer than a few days, Keto adaptation can be reversed and it would take a similarly long time to become fat adapted again.

Doc what about metabolic flexibility? It seems to say that you can do either or...after being fat adapted...

I was fat adapted ( purple pee strip) then two days of carbs perhaps 150-200 g per day. Now, I’m back on low carb (approx 15g per day). Seven days later I’m starting to see some purple on that pee strip again. I really need to quantify all of this and get some accurate information. If it takes 10 days to regain Keto status then that was a high price to pay for beer and pizza over two days. I should get a blood keto monitor I guess and do some time trials for interest.

On a carnivore diet, you can meet all of your vitamin C requirements from animal sources. Need for Vit C is greatly reduced on this diet as evidenced that there is no evidence of scurvy in the High Arctic populations eating a traditional diet.

Before trying the Agoge diet, I tried the keto diet and many other diets but none worked. With the *Agoge diet*, I lost so much stubborn belly fat, finally getting that lean look.

You probably didn't fully embrace the ketogenic eating lifestyle, and that's why it didn't work for you to make you healthier -- and that is the focus of keto-- getting healthy -- losing weight is not really the focus of getting healthy, but is residual effect. The good thing about keto is that you DON'T have to buy into a commercially packaged diet plan, like the commercial weight-loss one you're pitching here.
