I think my favorite part is when Strange reveals to Mordo that the Ancient One draws power from the dark dimension. Powerful acting from all three actors
@Souledex2 жыл бұрын
It's so ridiculously evocative of everything his character represents in the comics. Power doesn't come without a price, and he will find a way to pay it (or Double Irish it across dimensions so he can pay the next ones too). It's also so interesting because it's still an extreme expression of arrogance. To believe you can chain a god with your will and outlast him because you spent a couple years in physio, to have a natural understanding of time and people's experience of the world and natural laws to know that experience is something that would be an effective weapon against him, and then to distract his mind and wear him down by practicing his mystic arts to the extent he's one of the best when he comes out the other side. Like Captain America he was born for this - as a gifted soul who's arrogance, intellect, and talent have allowed him to solve every problem in front of him, he must learn to use those talents to confront forces far beyond human reckoning. Cap has the experience to give morality to his strength, Strange has the arrogance and intellect to give ambition to his talent, it must be suborned by a will to serve others and wisdom of endless painful experience. The ability to break the rules in only just the right ways is a perfect core personality trait for the best wizard too.

One of my favorite tiny details of this movie is you can see the date of Stephen’s accident on his watch. It’s February 2nd, Groundhog Day, a reference to a time loop, which is how he eventually saves the world from Dormammu.

“You cannot win..” “No, but I can lose. Again, again, and again… and that makes you my prisoner.” Yes that line is huge! Steven had never lost and now he was willing to lose his life over and over forever just to save billions of people....his sacrifice is one of the highlights of his character and I think people really don't touch on a lot as shows how far he grew since being so self serving to becoming selfless and being a true doctor and hero. I loved Benedict in this role..he took it seriously and his blew this out of the park. Thank you Benedict.
@glennwelsh97842 жыл бұрын
This is honestly one of my favorite endings of an MCU movie. The hero doesn't beat the villain in a fist fight or in some overwhelming display of strength. Dr. Strange wins with intelligence and the selfless act of trapping himself in an endless loop of death if it means preventing Dormammu from taking over the universe.

I love that scene with Tilda Swinton as she died. Excellent dialogue. Ancient One: "You have such a capacity for goodness. You've always excelled, not because you crave success but rather your fear of failure." Strange: "It's what made me a great doctor." Ancient One: "It is precisely what has kept you from greatness. Arrogance and fear still keep you from learning the most simplest and significant lesson of all." Strange: "Which is?" Ancient One: "It's not about you."

To Esher, 'Order is a repetition of symmetrical units and Chaos is a multiplicity without rhythm.'

When the speculation began about which characters the MCU was going to explore beyond the core team of Avengers, the two I most wanted to see were Black Panther and Dr. Strange. Thankfully, they gave us both of them and in each case did a great job. This is one of the only movies where I thought 3D actually improved the experience. Seeing this on the big screen in 3D was like watching Inception designed by MC Escher as viewed through a kaleidoscope and I loved every second of it :)

All these years and all her roles later, and I still cannot shake seeing Tilda Swinton as Jadis the White Witch, Snow Queen of Narnia. If only they'd had her offer Strange some Turkish delight with that first cup of tea, that would have been hilarious (and a nod to the later revelation about her breaking a few rules to draw energy from the dark dimension, given what this 'sweetie' represented -- temptation).

Hey Maple, the ideas and concepts for the movie come from the comic book artwork and The influence of artist Steve Ditko. As well as VFX in "INception, which gave them the spark to say VFX has come far enough to have M.C. Esher's ideas capitalized on. Ditko’s spacey, brain-blasted approach to otherworldly art is part of the film’s visual DNA. So thank you Steve Ditko for taking our minds to infinity and beyond.
