yeah...not buying that, black women experience both sexism and racism differently BECAUSE they are black women. Just like there are different types of racism where we acknowledge that the US operates on anti-black racism which is different than the racism that other racial and ethnic groups experience. You are all of your identities ALL the time and how you see, move through, and experience the world is not through one identity at a time. Telling people to downgrade parts of their identity(parts that might be MORE important and consequential for them in their lives than their racial identity-black people aren't a monolith) is like white folks telling black folks that All Lives Matter so stop talking about your blackness and the issues of importance to your community(like murder with impunity by tax paid law enforcement). Basically you don't think all black lives matter. Not saying we have to be a part of all the movements at the same time or with the same zealousness, but we have leave room for and acknowledge different types of blackness and black experiences. And that your experience is not universal, just because we're both black doesn't mean you know me. Our struggles are inextricably linked and so is our liberation.

They are not two separate issues. This is what is frustrating about this clip: he completely misunderstood what the woman is saying. Look up “intersectionality” - why is the murder of unarmed black women always overshadowed by the murder of unarmed black men? Why is it that data shows that black LGBTQ men and women are more oppressed and marginalized than white LGBTQ men and women? I thought the woman’s example of the founders of #BLM was a perfect example of how one dimensional the doctor’s approach was: it’s hard to be black. It’s hard to be LGBTQ. Imagine how hard it is to be both and then be told your struggles have to side with either being black or being LGBTQ.

To be fair, she also added “threatens and insults”, which is, IMO, more reasonable. I also heard, that for many people who are of her school of thought, power plays a role (in defining various -isms as “prejudice plus power”, a popular definition, which is how they say anti-white racism can’t exist). Thus, it would be different if a privileged group (white, male, straight, cis [not trans], Christian) is targeted than a marginalized group (POC, women, non-binary people, LGBTQ people, Jews [though sometimes they consider Jews white], Muslims, atheists, agnostics, etc). Maybe that is a reason they don’t seem to think that labeling offensive stuff as hate speech could be used against them and values they hold dear.

Since we are talking about the black folks that identify with the lgbt community, I'd like to say that a white person who is gay is of no concern of mine because we need to uplift ourselves from systemic racism, economic oppression, and political manipulation before we worry about how the white man feels. As Dr. Umar Johnson pointed out, we are often focused on the issues of other minorities, (and sometimes the majority), ahead of our own. But in regards to a black woman who identifies herself as being gay, I say that you are discriminated by the color of your skin first and your sexual orientation last. We shouldn't be fighting with each other over issues that concern a small percentage of our struggling minority. We should come together as a collective and free ourselves by any means necessary before we conversate about anything else. A white lesbian Jew is treated more justly by America and by society than a straight black man and yet the black community is fighting anti-semitism, sexism, and homophobia before issues that affect our own.

In the end, the person's sexuality and/or gender identity is blamed - and excused - for the perpetrator's violent reactions.
@prodbycin4 жыл бұрын
Z Moses I understand what you are saying and I agree with some of it. But 1.) white passing Americans during a time not long from now would choose not to come out as black from fear of retaliation against them AND their families. 2.) I am saying that society has made it “normal” to come out the closet, as if it is a prerequisite to being a certain sexuality. But I personally have never heard anyone come out as heterosexual, ever. I personally could care less if you are homosexual/pansexual/heterosexual etc. There is literally no need to discuss sexual orientation with anyone you are not interested in being in a sexual relationship with. Should you be viewed any different for doing so? no of course not, but exposing your sexuality to everyone has done nothing for anyone I have come in contact with. 3.) violence against anyone for anything they practice is wrong. So we agree there. Where we differ is that you say that people of different sexuality’s can be fired or assaulted for unwanted advances as if that is exclusive to non straight individuals. In corporate America people lose there jobs all the time due to unwanted advances. There are men who are assaulted because of unwanted advances on females. These are reasons many workplaces have policy in place that do not allow people to date in the workplace. To avoid these unwanted advances. In closing I would just like to say that we agree on many things (from my perspective at least.) we differ because my point was to say that before I can even open my mouth to state my sexuality I am perceived as a black man (replace this with any race and gender) first. Anything after that 1st impression is learned information. Information that can be held onto and not shared.

So according to this feminist, the exact definition of hate speech is "speech that offends, threatens, insults groups based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits." Notice no actual hate is required in that definition. Notice also that the intent of the speaker is not considered either. The only thing that matters is the feelings of the special group that is given protected status. "Hate speech" seems more like an attempt to control free speech.

@James BigBigBigBoss It is a choice, sorry not sorry! Satan has fooled you into believing that there are many paths to God but Jesus said one thing that clarifies that there is only one way. He said " I am the way, the truth and life and no man shall come unto the Father, but by me". You must be a believer of Jesus Christ. And if you are going to trust Jesus to save you, then you must know that He can and will deliver you. You need deliverance and you can not do that yourself. Surrender yourself unto Christ, REPENT and ask Him to come into your heart and He will save you, IF YOU WANT TO BE SAVED. There is a day coming when we all will stand before God, no man is perfect but we will stand before a perfect, righteous and Holy God and by His grace the righteous will SCARCELY make it in. Who shall be able to stand?
@carsontyler32033 жыл бұрын
@James BigBigBigBoss " You should be ashamed of your ignorant self. How dare you. I am not going to even argue." This is exactly what happened in the video. Emotions running rampant and when Umar broke it down, the woman realized she had no logical grounds left to stand on because it is all emotional. I can see why you don't want to argue with someone. You have your emotions running wild and you refuse to listen to reason. "How dare he, you or anyone be pro black but anti-gay at the same time. Ridiculous." So we ALL have to be pro black AND pro gay to appease people? You clearly didn't watch the video. Umar doesn't condone nor affiliate himself with the gay community but he DOES support the right for people to choose what they want and he even takes on LGBT clients. People can claim they were born gay or whatever they want, that's fine. But the claim that NO ONE chooses to be gay is false. Sexual trauma can play a role in an individuals perception of sexuality. However, I know of plenty of people who were molested by an adult during child hood and have grown up to be Heterosexuals. To make such a blanket statement as a mental health professional is careless. Also the act of having sex is a choice, the feelings that are felt toward the same sex are not a choice. It just happens, just as it does in a heterosexual context. You don’t wake up one morning saying I want to like a person with the same gender. The act of sex is a choice, but there are more components to sexuality than sex. If we are speaking on biblically inappropriate sexual behaviors....can the same energy be placed on those who engage in premarital sex, extra marital affairs, threesomes, orgies, and pornography? @timeforamazingchest52713 жыл бұрын
When Dr Johnson pulls out the DSM and she assumes she already knows how he will answer, it's because she isn't trying to have a conversation with an intelligent, individualized human being, but because she is attempting to attack what she sees as an opponent ideology speaking through the mouth of a man. People who do this sort of thing typically are in the thrall of an ideology or cult themselves and haven't realized it. You can see on her face how unbearably smug and sure of herself she is in a room full of people who disagree with her. She never started on 'maybe I'm wrong and he has a point', because she's already utterly convinced herself that she holds the 'right perspective' on things well before she even entered the room. The dismissive shaking of the head, rocking back and forth, and attempts to interrupt him are all psychological coping mechanisms. They are very similar to rocking a child back to sleep when it has been disturbed by something in the middle of the night. You see this a lot in people who feel psychologically threatened by ideas and perspectives out of their control.

@Djinn Djinnie a black person cant “be in the closet” about their blackness. when a gay person is pulled over the cop can’t obviously see their gay. A gay person can’t be systemically oppressed for their skin color. You lead off with something black people can’t relate in response to saying lgbt struggle can’t equate as lf that makes it more of a struggle then, you go into this bs saying there’s much in common like the struggle is equal. you either believe those points making the struggle seem harder or dont.

@@naes8258 all incorrect. 1. Sexual assault happens to every one, not just gays. 2. Gays like men touching them. 3. Gay or black, people seem to forget corruption of power and authority. Abuse comes with it and it's shared with everyone not just some. When you're ego gets so high that you took you are better than people or have a position to take advantage of. The facts don't support your theory that blacks or gays are unfairly targeted for anything. If a gay guy is shot or a black man stabbed but the same happens to non black and non gay humans, there is no disproportionate discrimination. Facts to this day do not support not a single bad claim happening EXCLUSIVELY more to a type of person. I. E. Blacks being murdered by blacks not Whites, black cops serving black neighborhoods. Evidence shows that Whites are killed at least 4 more and that the majority of black deaths are at the hands of other blacks.
